Note: Level 6 awaits the goodly group the absolute microsecond that the game's Google Document is updated to the current encounter. There was an offer of some panache being included in the writing. I would like a pinch of that as well please.
Aside: I normally heavily lean on this document to save myself time backtracking for information, and to this point it has been a resource that is so out of date that it is all but unusable. I would like to rectify that, so if we could make a concerted effort to keep it up to date that would be greatly appreciated.

Revery |

I will try to look at the doc today.
So, there are exactly three gnolls?
Also, I'm unsure about when my pet will attack? Is it sufficient that Revery knows "those gnolls across the chasm attacked me" for the pet to go on its rampage?

Xenh |

So, there are exactly three gnolls?
Thus far there are 3 gnoll spread out on the other side of the chamber. There might be more, (hiding perhaps? invisible?) or more coming : )
Also, I'm unsure about when my pet will attack? Is it sufficient that Revery knows "those gnolls across the chasm attacked me" for the pet to go on its rampage?
Your pet would normally react to the attack, but is unable to do anything since its master cannot see the threat.
Once the first lantern is brought to bear you can see your foes, and the next attack that hits you will spark it to action to defend you, though in this scenario it will only be able to pace back and forth on this side of the pit (it can hover, not fly), but once the first plank comes down it's on like Donkey Kong.
p.s. Your pet would react to being thrown across the pit like an attack : )

I didn't get the job. :( Of course, that means that I need to be putting in more applications at other places, but I should still have some time for updating the doc.
@Sajeek & Kwen: I think that you should still have Inner Fire active. It would last 50 minutes. (+1 insight bonus to AC, +3 buff bonus to hit points)

Revery |

That always sucks!

Kwen |

as far as I understand there is no way for me to get into the room, due to the hole in the wall being much to small, correct? I just need some clarity to make sure that I am correct in this assessment.

Revery |

I will try to look at the doc today.
So, I was editing the doc, and I look down and I can see letters appearing at the bottom. A little red popup indicated who was also editing it, at the same time: Jeremiah Buller. I went and corrected a word in the same sentence he was writing. :-p
Google docs is so cool.

Kwen |

I noticed that as well, I was thinking why should you have all the fun with Google docs. As I get some free time I'm trying to help update the document as well, thanks for getting that word for me I usually wait for the sentence that I am working on to be completed before spell checking it.

Revery |

The more the merrier. I thought it was Russ at first, because I only noticed the last name..

Xenh |

Sounds great that so many are hupping to the process of updating the game's Google Doc. Many hands make light work, and hopefully that will make it not only a better product, but one with some style.
I didn't get the job. :(
Boo!
Of course, that means that I need to be putting in more applications at other places, but I should still have some time for updating the doc.
Yay!
as far as I understand there is no way for me to get into the room, due to the hole in the wall being much to small, correct?
Indeed, the privies hole is the size of a loaf of bread, so far too small to fit even an infant through.

Kwen |

Fredrik: Sad Panda Face on not getting the job.
Xenh: Booo!

Xenh |

Xenh: Booo!
Wouldn't be much of a challenge to just grab the kid and leave from the first room :)

Information:
Sajeek's foster mother is Lithia, a powerful shaman of the Vah Shir people. Her husband is Captain Raji, whom lead a group of scouts, beastlords and explorers to find the lost vah shir colonies on Luclin. Sajeek is the sole surviving member of one such clan that settle in the jungles.
Lithia and Raji suddenly left Luclin shortly after Sajeek finished his Beastlord training. It took him a week or so to find a lead, but Sajeek had found that they had just dropped everything and left for Norrath without telling anyone. Not even Sajeek Grandfather (a person of some high or noble standing in Luclin's capital city) knew where they had left to. Although he blamed Sajeek. So, the young Beastlord didn't feel that bad about stealing a copy of the password and a handful of coin and sneaking to the portal.
When Sajeek gets to Norrath, he finds the massive gypsy camp. After a few days or week, he finds someone who recognized his foster parents descriptions out in the Plans of Karana. The young Beastlord then spent the next year searching the plains. He thought he was getting close when he had been captured and sold into slavery.

Gwendalyn |

I was looking at the rules for jumping, just for giggles. It's normally pretty tough, but Bast could actually have a good chance. He only needs to hit 8' which is DC 13 (since his speed makes the distance times 4/3). And with Fleeting Fury, he'd have a +8 Str bonus, meaning a success on a roll of 5 or above. He'd still have a 25% chance of falling in the chasm, but that's low by comparison to the rest of us.

Gwendalyn |

@Revery: You have Brontide down to 19/35 hp on his character sheet, but he was healed up to full by Noggy and then took 6 damage from the first javelin. If the animation was still hovering there providing cover from ranged attacks after that (since Brontide couldn't see who attacked him), then that would've saved him from the next 4 damage; and even if not, I have no idea where you got the other 6 damage from. Best I can tell, he should be at 29/35, or at worst 25/35.
That isn't a criticism, it's a panic, as a healer running low on mana and wondering where the @#$% your hp went. ;)

Tentacledone |

Yar, Given the hate/occasional-spurts-of-kindness-to-give-me-hope relationship I have with the dice roller, I don't want to take that chance, lol.
Sorry you didn't the job. Silver Lining: after the mass turn in of applications, more time for game :)
And, I totally just realized I forgot to level Cakkarak to level 3. I r genius!!!!

Revery |

I am going crazy. I was sure I responded to Gwen.
Revery was hit by three javelins to bring him down to 20 (not 19, you were right). Now of course he was hit again, so he's at 14..
Oh, and DC 5 means a 20% chance of failure.

Gwendalyn |

Oh, the blind gnoll beat the miss chance. I misread it. Dang, would've healed Revery last round if I'd realized.

Xenh |

Was there an advantage of making that spot check with Loki?
Also, he knows about the sewer entrance?

Gwendalyn |

I really enjoy the evocativeness of the descriptions in the Torture Chamber. (Moreso when they're evocative of a lush forest than an execrable abattoir, but still.) Also, the gnoll that Gwendalyn was attacking went from 24 to 12 damage, without any apparent healing. And lying prone gives an advantage of 4 against ranged attacks, so I think that last javelin missed her. But seriously, trying to match the level of writing in that game forces me to go to the next level. I credit it with improving my writing skills quite a bit. :)

Kwen |

Ahh yes, you get to act in the surprise round loki

Xenh |

Wuwu, taking a second action and retconning a warning to the others.

Think I lazily copied a previous version of a formatted attack sequence, but forgot to scroll down and ensure that the damage taken values were up-to-date. Thanks for catching that, I did another post to fix that error.
Your drop to prone seemed contingent on Revery coordinating with you, but the enchanter had other plans, so I left it vague while you work out if your if/then statement required Revery's action to have a little lay down.
p.s. Not sure if there's a medieval version of dodgeball (avoid rock perhaps?), but this scene is too much like a game of dodgeball (doctor dodgeball when the short-legged Nogglegrop finally decides to grace the grou with his presence) to ignore.
I have been thinking about the mixed good/evil game and would love to run it. Start posting your character concepts so we can get this show on the road!
Nice, what's our point buy?

Revery |

What do you mean by "mixed good/evil", by the way?

Xenh |

What do you mean by "mixed good/evil", by the way?
You'd have to ask Fredrik. I was replying to his post : ) Here is a link to the original post, since it seems that there was a server error, or something, that erased it, yeah that's it: LINK
I think the "mixed good/evil" has to do with a third EverQuest game that brings a balance to the Force, by yin-yanging the disparate nature of the extreme games and bringing it together into a Seinfeld cookie (warning: don't eat the black and white cookie, it will rot you out from the inside) of cohabitation. Read: you could play whatever you want without alignment restrictions.
p.s. Fredrik has like totally offered to run the game.
p.p.s. Let me know when the Google Document is up-to-date so I can DING you guys! Worry not, I will DING the bad guys too!

I updated a bunch of the people and put them in their places, so to speak. I'm hoping others write out the adventure synopses, but I will take a look at those too (at some point).

Fredrik |

I just finished spending a whole day on two of my least favorite things: tax returns and job applications. So now I get to play!
ETA: That's odd. Spirit of Wolf is listed under 4th-Level Shaman Spells, but then the spell description says Shm 3. Split the difference and call its spell level 3.5 (available at shaman level 6)?
ETA x2: I have to be honest, Gwendalyn never actually spent the action to light her lantern. But it's all full of oil and ready to go!

Xenh |

I factored that in to my latest post (and thanks for being honest):
"Gwendalyn drops a quick heal on herself, and feels the fatigue of using up so much spell energy (roleplaying mechanism, no statistical affect), she stands, moves and draws her weapon, forcing her to drop her unlit lantern in the process."
The lantern is fine. It just tipped over like a drunkard, and is sleeping off the effects of the potent liquor you poured into its gaping mouth hole. No it's not leaking.

Shaman were always the first of the classes to be able to cast that spell. You gain access to it at level 3.

I agree that it is a PERFECT time to start your new Everquest PBP game!

Revery |

Can you tell me where Revery is? He's spent the last 1.5 rounds moving toward the exit, and he started off fairly far back there.

Xenh |

The map is merely for your reference, to bring together a number of different descriptions, and make it easier for you to better picture your surroundings.
You wandered blind, be where you think that makes sense.

Revery |

To EJB 'twould be wonderful if we could find out the effects of the attacks on our enemies. Whether we hit, hurt them, etc.

Revery |

Loki: "The last of the gnolls, a creature that is slightly larger than the other two, also charges across the expanse, but then moves toward where Revery had stood, as if seeking to pick up the enchanter's scent so he can track the erudite down and eat him."
Does he manage to do this without incurring any AOOs from Sajeek, Gwendalyn, or Revery's Pet?

Your pet is dumb in the head, at least for now (a smarter version will get them), so does not get to exploit AoO that are presented, so no for that one. He is focused on the closest target that has attacked you, which would be the first one over the pit.
I had provided the group with a heads up of the gnolls all gathering together, by their makeshift bridge planks, to give an opportunity for a positional advantage to be employed to give tactical bonuses. Had people specifically charged to close the breach, or made it clear that they were placing themselves in harm's way to restrict the movements of the gnolls, they would be getting AoO right now.
So far Gwendalyn had protected Revery (used her move action tactically), but the group is far too spread throughout the chamber to imagine that the one gnoll couldn't wend his way about without getting stabbed in the face (read: he's the toughest/smartest in the chamber, which is good that your shaman luckily blew her wad on that one, rather than one of the fodder gnolls).
Interestingly enough, if your pet was smart, I would have given it an AoO in this case : )
Long story short: nope, but place this in your mind for future combats. Melee to the front to close choke points.

Xenh |

Did the sniper save vs. the clinging darkness spell?
Did Loki get an update on the fallen lizard SK?

Piter de Colmar |

Any info on whether Piter hit with any of his attacks? Whether the thug made his will save? Inquiring minds want to know....

Gwendalyn |

So you were still at 46/53 when one hit you in melee for 9 (not 10). That put you at 37/53 (not 26/53). Then you were hit in melee for 14 damage, taking you down to 23/53, and healed yourself up 10 to 33/53.
There also seems to be some confusion about the buffs. Fleeting Fury only lasts 3 rounds. Gwendalyn cast a different one on Sajeek and Kwen before they went into the pit, Inner Fire, that lasts 50 minutes; but it's just +1 insight AC and +3 buff hp. Of course everyone (including Bast) has Talisman of the Beast (+3 Str) indefinitely, because it's her current Totem Spirit spell.
So, Bast's bite should be +8 to hit for 1d6+6 damage, and his claws should be +3/+3 to hit (+8/+8 if raking) for 1d4+3/1d4+3 damage.
When he has Fleeting Fury, his bite would be +10 to hit for 1d6+8 damage, and his claws would be +5/+5 to hit (+10/+10 if raking) for 1d4+4/1d4+4 damage. But again, that only lasts for 3 rounds.
And all those numbers will change once you start casting Spirit of Sharik on him. :)

Piter de Colmar |

EJB: good information. What does Piter know of the Underground Coalition? Does he know a way to recognize them, and could these thugs have been part of them?

Revery |

Did Revery find anything on the gnoll?

Xenh |

How comes the Google document?
<hides level 6 behind his back>

Revery |

I did a bunch of glossary additions a while back. If y'all can look at it and tell me if I'm missing anything, that's be great.
As for the story line, if someone can take a crack at it... I will try if I can find a bit of time to do it.

Revery |

Please also check the updated adventure synopsis (good guys only). It's not very detailed, but hopefully it is enough for its purposes...

Kwen |

I'll try to work on the story line this weekend...

Xenh |

Kwen & Revery...
<<< DING LEVEL 6!!!>
Looking at the edit history for the Google Document it is all you two that have been working on it, since I offered the level boost 10 days ago.
As always you will need to post here that your character is done, then have Mike check it over before the ding can go live, which takes effect after your character has slept/rested for at least 8 hours.
p.s. Hopefully you two can still help to get the document up to speed. That would be really appreciated if we could all have a well organized and up-to-date reference to look back on.

Xenh |

Also, don't think I don't notice that you have the audacity to describe Loki as a "young" necromancer when he's 99 years older than Zaru. :p
Well you're venerable in 68 years, and he's venerable 244 years. Comparatively you're an old fogey : )
