I don't know. We spent a year between the island and Freeport, but then there's been some months spent here and there. Wandering the desert of Ro, learning Iksar in a brothel, chillin' on Odus/Karra Isle, escorting a small village across the Karanas, guarding a caravan to the mountains... Has it been another year yet?

If you think it's a scam then toss in a sense motive roll against Jakab the liar :)
Kwen |
Nah I'll take just the paranoid thoughts of Kwen starting to see something from nothing, it is just more flavor text than true rolling dice suspicion.
Xenh |
I just wanted an excuse to write "Jakab the Liar" : )
Kwen |
You need an excuse to write that? I figured you had that engraved into a block of wood on the farm.... like a Tombstone muwhahahaha
Xenh |
Anyone with some skills at making maps, and would like to be part of Pravus Mortis' holdings, please let me know : )
p.s. Mike, I'd like you to exit Revery stage left, on a trip to see your fiance when the group gets to Qeynos. You can arrange to have Revery meet up with them once you return and can take over your character once again.
Revery |
Good idea. I'm around for another week. After that, access will be spotty at best until July 13th.
Let's see where we are in a week, and we can decide what to do with Revery then.
Xenh |
Wonderful roleplaying from everyone as of late! I really appreciate the efforts and as a result I see the holdings become more of a possibility.
Keep it up : )
Revery |
Okay, I am off tomorrow. I'll try to stay in touch!

Okay, so let's sell/trade the stuff to get the 2 daggers. Loki wrote that Rev left the belt with us to make the decision. While they might be neat mementos of our fight, I think we might need the magic daggers more. Kwen, Gwen and Sajeek can use them when things get bad. And Gwen just became our main healer so we need to keep her safe, lol.
Xenh |
I won't be able to post during the workday, but I should still be able to keep up daily.
No worries, thanks for the heads up.
Xenh |
Twas not my intent to rush any of the homecomings, but really to just give a quick overview of different parts of the world, so you would be able to make informed decisions later.
The North and especially the Everfrost Peaks will come into play later on when the group has sufficient cold resistance that we don't have to experience the same environmental damage fixation as we did when you all did your time in the desert.
Trust in me that you will be glad to have a level or two under your belt, and a full party compliment, before one wanders into the frigid north and meets up with the ice giants and worse foes.
Faydwer, your choice of continents for your holdings, will be explored in much more detail, and with much less fast forwarding.
p.s. This is why I mentioned that walking from Halas to anywhere was not happening for low level characters : )
p.p.s. If you do feel rushed I am sure that when you run your game you will give the rest of us nothing but time for our backstories!
Kwen |
Lol no worries

Returning to the land of passive rolls for spot, listen and knowledge rolls (I'll call for a roll if it's dire, or I need you to be part). If you're looking to do these things, then make it clear that you are acting on those impulses and I'll roll for you, that way we don't convey information in the success and failures.
As an aside, I have a list of the skills the group has covered, and roll for you as a rule, which is why you generally get much more information than the basic player would have (my latest post is an example of that), so you are getting the benefits of having the skills, though a reminder is never a bad thing...it also has the advantage of roleplaying out what you're doing, rather than just leaning on a roll, which is much more likely to convey bonuses to your roll, or even auto-successes if I love your writing/effort.

Sorry I missed last night, I was tired and went to bed hours earlier than normal. (Should've guessed, first day of work and all that.)
Kwen |
Okay fair enough, couldn't help it though :)
Revery |
Hi all,
Online just for a bit... Greetings from Japan!
Revery will try to find people in erudin whom he can copy spells from cheaper than from scrolls. If he can't, he'll buy scrolls:
Tashan (300 for scroll and writing)
Chaotic Feedback (525 for scroll and writing)
And write them into his book (taking 10 on the roll).
I was able to briefly connect, and download emails earlier, then read them, so I'm caught up on the posts, pretty much. I'll compose one and send it off when I can...

丹羽の庭には二羽の鶏は俄に鰐を食べた 。
にわ の にわ には にわ の にわとり は にわに わに を たべた,I am told this means "in (mr) Niwa's garden two chickens suddenly ate a crocodile", which is especially helpful.
Revery |
Niwa means chicken, yes, but I'm not sure if it's crazy. It also means garden, and that phrase is a longer version of a tongue twister I'm familiar with:
Niwa niwa niwa niwa tori ga iru. (There are two chickens in the garden)
Crocodile is wani.

Kwen and Sajeek are posting to two timelines now, one of which is with Khae, and the other is later on in Pub Kal with Gwendalyn.
Pretty please with +1 sugar on top, if you're going to miss a day then please take two seconds to just post that you are going to be missing, so we're not all standing around stuck waiting for your post.
Kwen |
Did I miss a day? I thought I had just made it yesterday's timeline; I am really sorry about that one. I got off from work late last night and remembered that I might not have posted for the at least once a day; granted it was 11:47 pm MI time when I did post.

I must admit that I am not paying that much attention to the posts.
I try to crack out a post around 7:00am MST (give or take depending on schedule) each day, and check at points during the ay so I am not holding up the group. As long as there's a post between my posts I'm happy.
Xenh |
Revery's actions will need to be handled by the group, if you wish him to take part in any combat upcoming. He will forgo his action for the round if none of the group picks it up (read: we won't wait on him).
Don't care who, but please make sure his actions are in line with what he would normally do (he generally is a debuffer and sometimes fearer).

Question
A house rule I have been running with in previous games has eliminated ACP and speed restrictions, beyond those that come from encumbrance due to weight. Would anyone mind if we added that into this game for pure melee or perhaps all characters?
The iconic medieval world has knights running around in armour, but the restrictions are so serious I can only see NPCs wearing them.
Thoughts?
Kwen |
I say good show Sir Finnuis! I'm glad that the straight Melee class gets some love for the house rules. I am all in favor
Xenh |
Guess we'll put it into effect with the pure melee having no restrictions on ACP and speed reduction.
Thanks for your input you two!
Xenh |
I'm sorry for my lack of creative energy the last couple of weeks. It's been affecting all of my games (except PFS, which is a bit more hack 'n' slash). I hope to recapture my muse soon.

@Sajeek: It's possible that I missed something somewhere, but I thought you already got scribing materials for Spirit of Kahliz. The copying doesn't take place until after the learning (pgs. 172-173), so nothing is lost on a failed check.
@Xenh: I'm curious how Spirit of Lightning works, since my book just says, "As spirit of lightning, except" blah blah. As Gwendalyn has become the primary healer for a time, the taunting aspect is suddenly of great interest to me. ;)

Page 200 has a short blurb on the spell, which speaks of it having a taunt component, where as the actual spell description on page 322 does not. Each blurb follows the same template, but checking the next spells (Blizzard, Inferno, Scorpion and Vermin) they also do not mention the taunt component in their spell descriptions.
Only when you get to level 7 and then 9 spells do they mention taunt in their descriptions, but the level 7 Spirit of Wind spell forgoes taunt for another affect. Spirit of Storm (level 9) gives a "further bonus of +10 to taunt because of the power of the spell", which suggests that there was a bonus to go further than before.
The spell is poorly written, and leads us in circles (referencing itself as a reference), leaving us to decide on the DC for the potential once per round warder proc, and the possible taunt bonus the spells would provide.
I am open to suggestions.
Xenh |
Let's just pretend like the places on the map marked with *** are there for a DM/Guide's reference, and aren't really on there at this point.
At some point, if they become relevant, they'll magically appear :)
Fredrik |
I vote for kidnapping whoever wrote Spirit of Lightning, and withholding anything more than water until they tell us what it should've said. I really hoped that you had another source, since barring that, I have no idea. :(
@Revery: Just in case you didn't know when you chose Mist, Gwendalyn already knows the very similar Turtle Skin that gives DR 5/–. Whereas you could have Languid Pace instead (with lower cost and higher DC than if she got Waking Sleep), or an improvement on your animation (that you haven't gotten in awhile), or a combination of a 3rd-level spell (such as Root) plus a 2nd-level spell (such as Mesmerize) minus a 25. Etc. :)

My ruling will likely be that it is a buff that produces a single proc effect for 4D6 damage each casting, since the mana cost (8 mana to cast SoL) is so low. This permits a beastlord to cast a buff (very low agro) and move attention to its warder with its damage plus taunt (very high agro).
The proc DC will be 20 and can be activated on top of any attack.
Xenh |
Let's make the taunt bonus for SoL be the same as the level cast so it scales as the spells level.
Xenh |
Looking at magic weapons, there should probably also be a save DC on the damage. My guess would be Reflex for half, DC calculated like any other beastlord spell (10 + Wis bonus + spell level).
Good point.
Mr. Tentacles, please compile all of this for your spell and makes sure you provide an idiot's guide to the spell when you cast it : )

What the heck are you talking about, Fredrik? The 2 round recast on Turtle Skin is a major drawback in unexpected battles, and Mist has an instant recast. At 2-1-2-1, the whole party could be protected in as few as four rounds with Revery's help -- versus eleven rounds without -- and it would also save a lot of Gwendalyn's mana. You should be ashamed of yourself for ever questioning the value of Mist. :p

I realize that the critical failure thing is a houserule, the book just says a nat 20 always hits and a nat 1 always misses, anyone have a feeling either way about keeping the critical failure thing?
What sparked the thought was watching Jinx do a non-crit 33 damage to himself, and thinking that you're only going to hit harder, and that killing oneself would be a lame way to go.
Tentacledone |
How about making a DC 15 save of some kind to see if one loses ones weapon/wand/staff/spell when the 1 comes up. Rather then, "Congrats! You just fireballed yourself and your party! How do you feel!" <points microphone and charred smoldering corpses.>
Still gives some weight to rolling a one, just takes the "You might have just killed yourself" sting out of it. Because, let's be real, as gamers, getting a one sucks balls.

I dig the idea of maintaining the possible horrors of a critical 1 and the possible wonders of a critical 20.
Would it be too rare to have you re-roll and see if you can hit the same number again, then crush or raise people up to new heights if it happens?
Roll a 1...oops.
Roll any other number including a 20 = okay you just missed.
Roll a second 1...everyone gets quiet, cause this is really really going to hurt.
The same goes for two nat 20's as well.
The upside is it will fade into the background for the most part, but when it comes out, don your codpiece, it's going to be exciting.
If you cats want we could even come up with our own fumble/booyah table that you roll on when you get two in a row.
Or...
We could keep the nat 1/20 thing as it stands and force a roll on the fumble/booyah table as is.
Thoughts?
