OFFER TENDERED
If I can get everyone put crazy energy into the game, consisting of solid posts of roleplaying substance, from today until Sunday then you will all ding level 4 on Monday morning.
Somewhere in there I would love physical descriptions of characters, and some semblance of motivations and backstory. My hope is that this will help the group to gel together, and coalesce your character concept further in my minds, now that you've had a few months to look out of your PC's jellied orbs.
If you all go above and beyond your ding to level 5 will come shortly thereafter.
<leaves a trail of levelling breadcrumbs>
Congratulations: DING 4!!!!!
I like the energy cooking along, please keep it up. I love that I've seen some of the descriptions, motivations and backstory. I would like to get it from everyone, so please fill in the missing spaces. Level 5 will come shortly after everyone has done so.
Please let Mike/Revery know when your character is updated so he can comb it finely. As always your levelling will take effect after Mike signs off on your character and your character has rested for a night (this is to stop confusion from suddenly dinging mid-battle and us trying to work out how that affects things).
p.s. The Google document needs some love in tracking the group's adventures and important NPCS/places.
Kwen |
Kwen is completed as far as I can tell
Gwendalyn |
As you know, I'm slow at leveling. Also, Gwendalyn has three spells that she's been itching to learn for ages, and she isn't likely to take "no, you must go do this right now" for an answer -- especially since her Spellcraft is now high enough to learn them by taking 10. So, that's three days in which anyone who dares disturb her will be facing a very large, very angry spellcaster with the vitality of youth, the arms and armor of a warrior, and the unconscious authority of status among her people. ;)
Gwendalyn |
Thank you to Sajeek for the idea of adding a point of resistance to represent an experience. I've decided that because of surviving her encounter with the dervishes, Gwendalyn built up some tolerance for poison. :)
I assume that even 16 days worth of trail rations were completely gone by the end of that ordeal.
Also, we apparently traded Wink in for the dearly departed Smelly, and kept the other gear instead? So I should finally get around to adding dervish clothes to Gwen's character sheet? I think that I would ditch the Adventurer's Clothes in that case, and make the desert clothes her default. A Northerner dressed like a dervish -- because of course, it's so hot everywhere she goes. Awesome.
16 pp, 18 gp, 16 sp, 16 cp
From the dervishes:
+7 gp, +2 sp
Boat fare back:
-70 gp = -6 pp, -10 gp
Sold:
+100 gp breastplate
+2 gp 4 waterskins
Bought:
-100 gp chain shirt
-2 gp 4 days of trail rations
Subtotal until I change more:
10 pp, 15 gp, 18 sp, 16 cp

It is safe to assume that all consumable supplies have been consumed by the time your ~ month in the desert was done.

Trading in the bought camel for the rented camel's death would leave you with your desert gear.
I'm not used to being set such a hard pace by events that I'd have to snatch every spare day. I'm not complaining, just saying that there was some low-hanging fruit that I didn't know I needed to grab. Since Gwendalyn actually had the scrolls and scribing materials with her in the desert -- not a retcon, they were on her character sheet the whole time -- and it doesn't change any of the events that followed, I figured I could use the time-honored literary technique of the flashback to fix that. ;)
I don't mind, but it saves you not from a post for this day.

Geterdone!
Gwendalyn |
Geez! Slavedriver! grumblegrumble...
I think that I'm done leveling. Still need to fix her background (for no easy overland travel), swap the adventurer clothes for dervish wraps, and contribute to the Google doc -- but that's bumping up against the work that I need to do in order to get a much better job, so not tonight.
Revery |
What does this mean exactly: "All supplies are found for the market up price, unless the purchaser travels with Kwen (book cost). "?
What is the "market up price"?

Market was a typo for "marked."
You pay book price +50% alone or book price with Kwen. It's a faction thing.
Revery |
Got it.
Revery: Clang!
I'll look at the others soon. Tonight I'm tired and not feeling at 100% HP. Tomorrow I should be able to look at other finished sheets.
Gwendalyn |
Minus 5 sp for getting clean, and plus 5 gp for selling the adventurer clothes, because I'm really getting attached to the idea of a Northerner who goes everywhere (except places like Halas and Velious) in dervish robes. That's awesome.
My working assumption is that hot weather clothes' weight is 7 lbs., same as cold weather clothes.
Also, Zaruksis is way way behind on accounting for gear, sorry about that, I'll catch up as soon as possible.
Revery |
Okay, so roll call. Which character sheets (goody-two-shoes types) are ready?
Xenh |

Thank you for the reminder, I had thought that I had provided that information, but it looks like I omitted it.
I wrote:
"Though bloodstained their clothing is a perfectly layered set of tans and other light colours all bound together in such a manner that layers can be shed with ease."
The dervish clothing is actually two sets of clothing: Cold - 4 lbs. (+5 circumstance bonus to fort saves against exposure to cold weather), Warm - 3 lbs. (+2 circumstance bonus to fort saves against exposure to warm weather).
You layer them during the night, and shed layers during the day.
The clothes cover you from head to foot in loose linen and comes with either a turban, or loose head covering and veil.

Sajeek:
I see no problems except one tiny question:
- What's on the double sided map?
Kwen:
- 4 days rations should weigh 4 lbs.
- Your dervish ring gives you +1 Dex, but you don't include it in the stats. Is that because you're not wearing it?
- Which weapon do you have finesse with?
- With daggers, in melee, you don't get your finesse bonus unless you take another finesse feat. If just thrown (in either case actually) you get your strength bonus on damage.
- I can't see where your training points have gone. I'm guessing 4 went into skills, bumping the total ranks from 63 to 67? It would be good if you could track them on your sheet like on Revery`s or Sajeek`s.
- (my thoughts) If you take 2 more ranks in Bluff (up to 5) you'll get synergy (+2) bonuses in Diplomacy, Intimidate, Pick Pocket and Disguise checks!
Evil JB |
I put the training points into fire and cold resistance, I get 9 Skill points a level, 6 + 3 x 4 at first level + 4 skill points at first level = 40 at level 1, 9 at level two (6+3), 9 at level 3, and finally 9 at level four so:
40+9+9+9= 67
my Dex is naturally a 16 with the ring it goes to 17
I now have fire resistance at 2 and cold at 1,
I put my training point total where my action points are at and the total amount of training points and how many I have left I will move that Colum into the feat's and abilities section to clear up any confusion for skill synergy, I'll put those skill points into bluff at my next level.
I have 10 training points left out of the 20 that I had at 4th level. I will put the weight for the rations, along with the rest of the weight for my gear right now.
I usually throw my daggers that is why they were labeled as throwing dagger's as well as the kurki's. Now that I have a short bow, I will modify those tables.
Aaaaaannnnd it should be good to go now :)
Revery |
Cool beans.
For your DEX, I think the intent of the sheet is that your permanent score is in the left column, and then with any adjustments (such as from the ring) in the right column.
You still get your STR bonus throwing daggers (unless I'm mistaken?).
And I keep forgetting about those bonus 4 skill points you get for being Half-Elf!

Side 1: Commonlands
Side 2: Desert of Ro
Gwendalyn |
I think that Gwendalyn is ready for review (except of course for still needing to fix the background). Edit: Okay now she's ready, now that I added the 11 gp from Sir Lucan and the orc.

Right, and I think that should be written on the sheet. That way, a year from now, we all know what it is...
Revery |
Gwendalyn:
- Weapon total to hit bonuses should be +6
- I can't find anything else wrong.
Sajeek:
- Does he not have a Dervish ring? I figured we each had one, since there were four rings and four of us.
Revery |
We are in the east part of the commonlands. Which direction do we need to go to find this Pandemic?
Revery |
Um, I guess that should be: which direction DID we go, from Freeport?
Revery |
Revery:
- You don't have access to Invisibility just yet.
(fixed!)
If anyone wants to check over Revery, be my guest. I'm thinking of trying to be a bit more of a buff provider at the beginnings of combat (Strengthen, plus Inv when I know it). Perhaps a few more new spells will help in that regard, after we get back to Freeport and if we get some money.
Xenh |
Um, I guess that should be: which direction DID we go, from Freeport?
You went West.

Gwendalyn would need to either cast the Fleeting Fury spell, or do the hammer attack, unless it was a quickened spell.
There are some battles to prepare for ahead of time, and others not so much. This would be the latter since it was totally unexpected that you were going to get into a battle in the next 3 rounds.
Either way if casting a spell please post the spell in brackets and update your mana total.
Gwendalyn |
Fleeting Fury is a free action to cast; if only it weren't for that gosh-darned 1 round recast, I'd have cast it all over the place. ;) AFAIK, if Gwendalyn didn't have to use a move action for anything, she could theoretically cast Fleeting Fury on one person, cast Minor Healing on another, and Full Attack to Slam a third and hit a fourth with a weapon -- all without even provoking any AoOs. Have I mentioned that I heart my shaman? 8)

Oh ho, I stand corrected.
Sajeek has been buffed with that spell.
Please post your updated mana and the spell you cast. It will make our lives easier if you also mention the bonuses it imparts.
Gwendalyn |
Bonuses of different types do stack. So an armor bonus to AC stacks with a deflection bonus (or any type except another armor bonus). If a bonus doesn't have a type (it's simply listed as "+X bonus"), then it stacks with all other bonuses.
Now if you're house-ruling it then okay, but Fleeting Fury grants a +4 bonus (untyped) to Str and Dex, so that should stack with anything. (It's balanced by only lasting three rounds.) FWIW, it also gives a +1 insight bonus to AC; but I don't know what spells Pandemic cast, or their type(s) of AC bonus.
Zaruksis |
That's right: trolls are nutritious. Due to their wildly varied diets, their disgusting flesh has lots of vitamins, essential fatty acids, and other random micro-nutrients. You wouldn't want to eat a troll directly (unless you were one), but as fertilizer? DAMN.

I appreciate you posting to keep me honest. It is best if we're all playing from the same page. There are no houserules involved; the stacking is as normal according to canon EverQuest. You entire buff stacked with Pandemic's buffs.
My intent was to have you all be in the dark about the spells cast upon you, since no one hit their spellcraft roll and it's not a spell any of you have encountered before.
Twas nothing more than a roleplaying mechanic meant to be a purposeful red herring to permit everyone to remain in the realm of roleplaying (read: Odd, from my research that spell should augment whatever Pandemic cast on us, but I really don't feel that much stronger or better protected), rather than acting like each of you could easily discern the difference an incremental bonus stacked atop another bonus felt like, especially as such low level characters.
Going meta, the reason why I'm directing each of you to act like the spells did nothing for your AC and STR is because you already have higher bonuses to each, so you don't see the effect when they actually did stack.
It was my intent for you to be surprised by your +10 bonus to STR (or +14 to fleeting fury), not suddenly factor it in like it was mundane, which is why I was converting your rolls/damage to take those bonuses into account. A hint of the power of the buffs was I was talking about how powerful the rogues were, yet you are doing so well in this combat.
I think my intent to make the buffing spells a fun surprise, slowly revealed through gameplay, have backfired: here's what was cast on each of you (Of course your characters don't know this.):
- Protection of the Glade: +4 AC, +112 hit points, 1 mana regen per round
- Girdle of Karana: +10 to STR
Add in your bonuses to your rolls, and please roleplay out your slow reveal of how powerful these buffs are.

Holy f~*+!
(tell me 112 was not a typo)
(winkk)
Eye iz inslted nevers doo tyypos!
p.s. You have indeed gained +112 hit points for a goodly amount of time. Feitmere doesn't have much in the way of material resources, but he has powerful contacts, especially from his adventuring days.
Piter de Colmar |
EJB, was Piter hit by the troll? It all depends if he was flat-footed for the attack. If he was, the attack just hit. If not, Piter's Dex made him miss.
Xenh |
For Kwen, please determine if you have rolled a crit and only then add in the extra dice. With your current formatting it is forcing me to check your character sheet to look at the crit range of your weapon with each attack you're doing.
p.s. After writing that combat novella (cripes, next time I might put in chapter headings) I need a raise. In my final edit I was cleaning up my writing and I had added in the negative that Shallow Breath had done to the attack of one of the foes that was fighting Gwen/Noggle, but I ran out of time, so it's not represented. It had not changed a hit into a miss though, so it's more of just a note so you know I had not forgotten about it.
Gwendalyn |
Gwendalyn's first non-surprise round attacks still didn't include Girdle of Karana -- since that post was before the explanation -- so they would've been +5 to hit and +5 to damage, even without flanking. Just pointing it out, since I'm kind of surprised that she missed with the hammer.
Also, I forgot to include the mana regen, so she was at 29/32 after that second spell.
Also also, I hereby grant you a 200% raise! You're welcome.
<goes back to reading the novella>
Xenh |
Gwendalyn's first non-surprise round attacks still didn't include Girdle of Karana
I was counting in all bonuses for the group, and then handed over the reins to you guys, so your post got caught in the transition.
I had mentioned that your strike had been a split second away from hitting, so a previously unaccounted for +5 would definitely be a hit.
Revery |
Sorry, but what's a proc check?
