Wow! It would also appear that someone's job is thread necromancy! There are a lot of different names in this thread that I haven't seen in a very long time. Lots of good folks. I miss 'em.

I've had the jobs of

park worker at a pool (janitor/cashier/run the filter)

Park ranger at a pool (janitor/run the filter/bouncer/ Keep people and wildlife from killing each other)

Peace corps in the islamic republic of mauritania. (Its not particularly islamic, definitely not a republic, and the moors only control 10% of the country) (did not work out well. Stomach still hurts)

Park worker, more garbage person fixit construction and things

Wolf Biology associate: Be a companion to the wolf stuck on their own. Construction and fixing stuff, security checks where you walk around a fence with a pack of wolves following you (very cool way to start the morning) make sure no ones hurt, and give tours. (I will occasionally list this as wolf belly rubber on a resume.

Bat catcher for a field biology phd candidate. Canoed down the missouri setting up volley ball nets, catch and ID bats.

Park worker again. Road and tree crew and miscalenous construction.

Left there on workers comp to spend more time with my remaining limbs.

Build stuff... out of bear shavings?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

No, I build stuff and shave an angry bear at the same time, they're intertwined.

More specifically I specialize in high end modern craftsman level stone projects.

If you want I can PM you my phone number and I can send you pictures.

No, that's cool. I just have this pile of bear shavings I've been trying to figure out what to do with. Maybe some kind of fort...

Turns out I can just link to one of our videos, I'm the one with long hair.

I expected more bears personally.

Nice work. I just tore out the carpet and plywood and am installing hardwood in my living room. I forgot how satisfying seeing the results of your work is.

Do not try this at home. If you are not Captain Yesterday and have found yourself entwined with an angry bear, please see a doctor and/or veterinarian and/or park ranger.

My day-job: I'm an IT manager at a major US research university who's in charge of desktop software licensing.

My avocation: I'm an indie RPG designer and very frequent GM.

(Oh, and back in 2012... I was doing more-or-less the same thing, but with less authority than I have now. And I wasn't yet into indie RPGs.)

In 2012 I'd just quit my job (with good reason) as a foreman at a different company and became the stay at home parent and worked nights as Brute Squad at Toys R Us.

I used to tell people that my company did "business therapy", when they wanted to know what a 'marketing' company was doing conducting employee interviews.

Since my post at the beginning of this thread I have moved to Kansas and now work for a contractor for the Department of Children's Services processing payments and allocating documentation.

So still data entry, just in a different field.

And as of today, I am now working from home rather than having to commute an hour one-way at 5 AM to the office.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

Started out working at age 14 as a page in a library and a mechanic's helper / cashier at a garage / service station, then went to school for illustration and graphic design at a prestigious university. Ran my own illustration business for years, while working at various points on the side as a delivery driver, loading dock operator, landscaping worker, band roadie, construction worker, and UPS truck loader.

I eventually went to trade school to be an electrician, worked for an electrical construction firm for a year, got laid off, drove a forklift for a while, then got hired as a sales associate at a comic book store, eventually becoming assistant manager, then store manager, all while working side jobs in residential electric and playing in a band.

After a while, I lost all my art clients, got kicked out of the band, and I went back to school for chemical engineering on scholarship, eventually getting a temporary internship as junior process engineer at a paper mill, after which I went back to working part-time at the comic book store and going to school.

Then the [redacted] happened back in March, the store went out of business, and I ran out of money to pay rent while attending college. So, here I am, back working landscaping in my early-mid-30s. Now it's snow removal season, but it's done nothing but pour rain all month.

Here's a visual representation of my career.

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

Completely missed this thread as it was not-dead but only sleeping and strange aeons caused it to rise once more.

Been working what is now called an 'essential' retail gig for nearly twenty-seven years at a major local retail chain.

Job duties have been all over the place, in the past I was at one point responsible for Receiving and running a Liquor Department.

On arrival at the store I've been working at for the past twenty-two years I was shifted over to cashiering and maintaining/running 'One-Hour' film orders.

Approximately sixteen years ago ordering responsibilities were volun-told for cosmetics, toys, and hair-brushes.

Three years ago I was assigned to be the 'back-up' for the Scan Coordinator for the section.

This year I've been saddled with ordering our entire section of the retail location (typically the Manager's job, but they can't be bothered to do it regularly) except for Liquor. They've also tried to saddle me with baby-sitting/supervisory duties, and I've fought that every time.

In addition, the 'primary' Scan Coordinator for our section resigned in May.

So I've been juggling
1. Doing all the Scan work (a 60 person-hr/wk job that was being done by two people prior to May
2. Ordering our entire side of the store twice a week for items from our warehouse(Approx. 12 person-hr/wk hours per week)
3. Ordering Makeup/toy/hairbrushes once a week (Approx. 8 person-hr/wk hours)
4 Straightening/facing the Liquor Department (and filling the chronically under-filled beer cooler (Approx. 6-12 person-hr/wk hours).

And this all needs to be done, per Management, in 40 hours, without fail, every week....

Talk to me about West End Girls because I am now a pet shop boy. Just started a new job at a local pet store. It's a pretty good gig.

Oh... and to combine my love of indie RPGs and Roko's Basalisk... there's a game about that!
