Recruitment

Soooo I am new to this forum in general but not to Pathfinder, and unfortunately I do not have much of a regular gaming group. I would like to join a campaign, but I'm not exactly sure how things work on this board. Advice and such would be wonderful. More wonderful would be actually being recruited into a game. Thank you!

Welcome to the boards.

A thread like this may get you a spot from a kind and observant DM, but is pretty unlikely.

If you want to play, lurk constantly in the recruitment forum and jump on new recruitment threads. Be sure to read what the DM to be posts so that you are sure the game will fit your style and so that you won't need to ask questions he's already covered. It may take a week or two, and you may get rejected a few times because most recruitment threads get flooded with applicants, but you will find a game eventually.

If you really want to play, then DM. Open a recruitment thread yourself and invite the world into your internet parlor. Practically guaranteed to generate 4-6 new acquaintances who may eventually become good friends.

Best of luck!

Thanks!

Looking over recruitment, there seems to be a bit of a lull, but nightflier is recruiting for his badlands campaign.

I've played with him and he's a good guy. Some pretty good people have applied. You might try there.

Thom has some good advice. You have to be on the look out for group openings and new campaign's. In the last few weeks there have been several including a Runelords, Second Darkness, Legacy of Fire, Savage Tide and a few others. Lurk and get to know who's playing by reading the posts. If you have some free time make up one or two characters that you would like to play, so you have something you can modify rather then starting from scratch. And finally make sure that the character is interesting and has multiple levels. Sure a half-orc barbarian is cool, but what if he comes from a old-god worshiping tribe, and has been branded with ritual scars and is deathly afraid of "shamans". Try to make your character *pop*. Thats the best advice I can give. Someone that can advance the story and the campain as a whole. Focus less on optimization of stats and more on the depth of the character and I think you will be alot happer in the long run.

The Shattered Star path is about to/has already arrived in people's hands, so expect a few recruitments for that path soon. It might be a good plan to download the free player's guide and make an alias or two with characters for that path you could submit, or at least get some ideas.

When I've recruited for games in the past, the folks that come in and say "Dotting for interest. Will post concept later" almost never get the same kind of attention as those that come in with a character idea all ready. Some folks like to RP in-character during recruitment; I'm not a fan of that, but I do like to see folks who join the conversation, ask questions, and stay active in the thread. Those are almost always the folks that I pick.

Also, read everything in the GM's initial post(s) super carefully. If somebody asks me a question, the answer to which is obvious in the initial posts (like if I say max starting gold in the initial post, and somebody asks me how much gold they get), I know they aren't going to carefully read my in-game posts.

I agree with the statements of the others and I'll add one more idea. I was able to get into an Adventure Path I'd be wanting to play for awhile by coming to an agreement with one of my players. The deal was that I'd run a campaign he wanted to play in and he would run the campaign I wanted to play in. So far it's worked out very well.

I have been playing DnD/PF/a bunch of other stuff over the years, but my experiences in PbP or PbEM are rather limited. So I have a couple of questions about playing here:

1)If I want to build a character to show off to prospective DM's, how do I do that? I've noticed that many characters are under People Profiles, do I just create a new alias then? And if that is the case, how do I switch back and forth between aliases?

2) I would like to run my own PbP or PbEM campaign from here (Slumbering Tsar anyone?), but I do I link up the various tabs that the current PbP campaigns have?

Thanks in advance for y'all's sound advice. ;)

1) Make an alias for your new character. Switching aliases is super easy (you pick it from a drop down list before hitting 'Post'. A tip, though: once you've posted ten times with an alias, it's name is locked, so instead of posting in the recruitment thread as the alias, just post a link to it. That way, you don't clutter yourself up with unused aliases you can't delete or rename.

2) Unless you have something weird, like extra discussion threads, the website makes the campaign page and tabs automatically for you.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I appreciate the advice.
