Wow...umm...ok first off. My grandfather is doing much better and should be released from the hospital in a few days. Thanks for all your well wishes.
Now as for the Fog Cloud and the battle...remember spells only do what they say they do. Fog Cloud does not say that it creates wet conditions as far as slopes go. You are not blind and can move through the fog cloud normally at least insofar as you don't have to make checks to move quickly. I know that normally in poor visibility it is half movement but then you would have to move half speed in darkness and I have never played that way and I'm not starting now. Sorry for the confusion. I gave you the last known positions of the crew before the fog cloud went up. They may be there or they may not but you think that as fast as you all got across they probably have not moved much. Ranged attacks are difficult but not impossible as you can still attack the square that person is in if you know where it is, which you did based upon the last time you saw them. You suspect that the reason why the fog clouds were put down is to make it easier for you all to actually board the vessel and make if very hard for them to repel you. Once there it makes it very difficult for them to put forward a concerted defense and you pirates...who by their nature are a bit more chaotic in their attacks...are in a much better position to fight on your terms. Variel is correct that you cannot see R4 to be able to use Freebooters Bane on him but that does not mean there is nothing Rain can do. You do not have to use the stairs to get onto the aft deck. Rain is perfectly capable of jumping up and climbing over the railing near the ship's wheel.
Also, Concealment does not give you a bonus to AC, just a miss chance. Higher ground also does not improve your AC. All it does is give +1 to the person on higher ground for melee attacks against someone lower. I hope that clears things up and let me know if you have any more questions.

Be interesting if Sunny (No doubt you have seen her in recruitment threads) made the group here.
Flynn: Sunny, you really should wear clothes. They help against sunburn and bug bites.
Sunny pats Flynn's cheek and giggles. "I don't want to get tan lines!"
DM Immortal |
lol yeah my games are a bit more...violent than most so that might not have ended well for her to have a pretty girl wandering around naked among a group of pirates.
Horatio Flynn |
Well - better than that a Pegboy I suppose :)
Rain Taneththir |
Sorry all, but I will be back on the boards either tomorrow or the next day at the latest. Thank you to Flynn for running Rain's actions in my absence.
DM Immortal |
NP Rain, take your time. I hope your long weekend was a good one. :-)
Horatio Flynn |
To all
Apologies for the sudden "rapid succession" posts from Horatio/Rain just now.
I have only a few hours between jobs today - and I knew I wouldn't be home until this evening; and I had a plan I wanted to try fast, before the GM may have decided to fast-forward things too far. So there was a lot of posting with very specific details on what Horatio is trying to do.
Also - I did my best with Rain - this is mostly social RP for her - and I hate doing social RP for another character - even though I try to capture their "voice" as best as possible - that's generally their move, not mine.
In this case, there was still a bit of "tactical stuff" Rain could do - so I rolled for her - again; to forestall a "fast forward" from the GM only - as I don't know when I'm coming home specifically tonight (traffic is terrible where I live getting home at that hour - last time I left at the prescribed time - it took me 30 minutes to get a little less then the 5 miles to my house from work) and I really hoped to try this plan, and that it works.
To Jiro and Dhaavan
Guys, I wan't trying to tell your characters what to do just now. I know you probably have your own plans. But Horatio would have suggested searching the main cabin - especially with "Detect Magic", so you could find secret magical things that could be taken and easily concealed. If the stuff on the deck is magical, from the pirates we just finished off, Horatio would have guessed that there's a good chance that our own crew members/officers will discover it - as it is mostly "big" stuff, not easy to hide (as far as I can see - though I didn't search the bodies with all this other stuff).
I know my suggestion may not agree with what you wanted to do. Please disregard if it does - but it was just a suggestion - from one character to another, speaking in character. Again, I hope that's okay and apologies if I seem pushy - but as I'm pressed for time, I just wanted to toss it out there.
Okay - sorry again about all the sudden massive posts, and I look forward to tonight.
Yay team good!
Variel Nightstorm |
Just throwing this out there, who wants what items that we just got?
+1 short sword
+1 pike with a special name
MW buckler
+1 natural armor amulet
4 potions of cure mod
3 potions of invisibility
I already mentioned that I would like another potion of healing. Variel can make his weapons magical already so neither weapon is that much of a pull to him. Likewise Variel can't use the buckler. With shield and hopefully MW chain shirt from Grok, Variel has one of the best ACs already so will pass on the amulet. Any thoughts or takers?
Dhaavan |
Dhaavan's going to ask about one or two of the potios of Invisibility. They'll be really useful when he needs to cast summoning in combat till he gets his next spell. that way he can be invisable while summoning all kinds of monsters. Once he gets Vanish, He won't need the potions as badly, but as a backup, it's pretty helpful. But he'll formally ask for them later.
The Pike is a weapon that Dhaavan can use, and gives him a Melee option, but anybody with better BAB (and actually has a strength score) gets dibs over the Sorcerer
GM If a character has a negative strength mod, what happens when they use a 2h weapon? With Dhaav's -2, the 1.5str would be -3 vs the -2. or would there be any kind of reduction of the penalty? never really looked into how -str characters work in Melee.
Seijiro |
Seijiro would like at least one of the potions of invisibility and maybe a potion of cure light wounds as well (currently down to 7/16 hp and no one is healing the poor kid). anyway, that's all he wants, he figures the amulet will go to someone with worse than 15 ac, so that's out, and he doesn't want anything else really.
but he'll talk to Rain in character when she's around about these things.
Rain Taneththir |
Jiro, you may need to seek/ask for healing, my friend. Even if we (through the GM) have to npc say Valeros undertaking the healing ... Flynn is out of healing spells, but I think there are CLW potions still around from earlier (through Variel) ... and Sko may be able to still heal you.
Seijiro |
it's not in his nature to ask for healing really - but in his own way he just did. Others get it without asking, and he won't push himself on others to get favors from them, he's shy that way lol...
DM Immortal |
Dhaavan, even if it is so I wouldn't make -2 times 1.5 as it doesn't make any sense why two hands would be weaker than one in negative and stronger in positive.
Dhaavan |
schweet! Thanks. But looks like Rain's got the pike till we find a better Reach Weaapon for her, or another one of these Repelling Pikes.
Any responce from Grok about dhaavan's purchases? also her crying at our departure was a nice touch. Pitty bout tilly tho.
Rain Taneththir |
Jiro, you may need to start asking for healing if no one sees you need it because you may end up dead. ;) You need to find a voice for important things. Just sayin'. lol
Edit: It seems Valeros' has stepped up and returned 8 hp to you. Almost full hp now. :)
Rain Taneththir |

Okay, I thought it was the repelling pike. I really shouldn't post as soon as I get up.
Rain Taneththir |
So what is Dhaavan talking about? His comment on this board confused me. Is he talking about another repelling pike for him? *Mumbles something about American English to Australian English translation ....* ;)
Seijiro |
he was saying he wouldn't mind having the repelling pike himself... and had asked Imm a question about how damage would work with the two handed weapon for him since he has a negative damage adjustment. But then he realized that you had claimed the pike already (which I wasn't aware of myself, since the pike is still hidden in the gig afaik). Anyway, then he made a comment about 'if we found another one', so i'm a little confused too. But I do know there was only one of them found.
Rain Taneththir |
I had not formally claimed/taken the pike for myself (and realise it is currently hidden upon Rain's command). Since Variel made a posting on this board asking who would want what, I put Rain's hand up for the pike. A future claim, that is all.
DM Immortal |
yeah he was saying itll be nice if you find another one as you have the one available

Raises hand
May I make a suggestion? Perhaps a small title of Acting! when characters do pretend inter-party conflict just so everyone is clear. Perhaps make it a signal between everyone. Flynn rubs his nose and waggles his eyebrows signaling incoming drama.:)
Dhaavan |
So i think the nitty-gritty of Loot discussions make sense to have OOC, just cause a Player may think their character needs an item, whereas another player wants it too.
I'm all for things being hashed out in-character, but we have enough RP and social conflict without having loot-fights. Maybe later on we can divide IC, but right now if we do OOC till the party gets a beter cohesion score... Then instead of fighting over loot in character, we can have characters make offers to each other based on the OOD discussion which can be justified In-Character by simple observations that our characters should be able to make, and improve moral
Like Dhaavan has no armor, but stays out of fights. Makes Player sense, and Characters could see that, and so can Dhaavan. But it's as a player that i want the ANA so my character has some SC, but as a player i realize that shouldnt' be the first priority for the party right now, s i pass on the item in character in a way that makes sense.
Whatcha think?
Variel Nightstorm |
I agree with you Dhaavan. IC Variel could use all the items but the buckler, but OOC there doesn't seem to be any reason for it. The only thing OOC that I can think of is if people want Variel to be the tank of the group by taking the amulet. Other than that the weapon just gives another +1 to hit and damage but that is better used for those that don't have a magic weapon.
Dhaavan |
The Boarding Pike is also a 2h reach weapon, not very good for a magus.
Rain likes it, and if she's a 2-hand ranger, for her fighting style, all the better. Stack her with offensive weapons.
The amulet could make Variel a great Tank, or give Sko as much AC as the rest of the party, or boost one of the Lower HP characters AC, such as Flynn or Jiro. Valeros seems to have the most HP of us all, and with his healing, he could likely survive without it.
Dhavan should stay at a distance, and as we gain levels he'll have more options so there's less time for him to melee.
Horatio Flynn |
updated the campaign tab
Excellent.
Thank you for all the hard work you have done. I appreciate it - as a reward I shall bequeath you a "Beer Keg of Overflowing +5."
Horatio Flynn |
oh man how I could totally use that beer keg right now lol
Very well - I shall increase it to +6.
It is done - I have spoken!
Rain Taneththir |
Was there more than one deleted posting on the main board? I came back to what seemed like chaos and I can't seem to find Jiro's posting re the amulet and I never got the chance to read Flynn's posting ...
Rain put her hand up for the pike. Now if there is someone better who can use it without penalty, then she isn't going to say "It's mine! Mine! No one else can have it." She would rather see it in the best possible hands.
And, Rain indeed has the Two-Handed Weapon style.
Horatio Flynn |
Regarding my own post - I had said that I wanted gear, but unfortunately my tone did not work well - so I deleted most of it - all that was left was the snippet that mentioned that I was about to ask you something, but then stopped myself. So it was a post that was nearly deleted, but edited instead.
That is all I know about deleted/edited postings. I did not see a post from Jiro that was later deleted, though I may have missed it.
Seijiro |
Seijiro's suggestion was that the amulet go to the one who most needs it, ie someone with really low defense who needs more, that's all.
Rain Taneththir |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
So division of potions (received from Captain Harrigan) are as follows (3 Potions of Invisibility, 4 CMW potions):
1 potion of invisibility to Jiro
2 potions of invisibility to Dhaavan.
1 CMW potion to Jiro
1 CMW potion to Variel
1 CMW potion to Flynn
1 CMW potion to Rain.
I think I covered everyone's requests from the postings on the discussion and main boards.
Horatio Flynn |
Excellent - but wait - there's more!
If I recall correctly - we were ultimately responsible for the killing/capturing of a total of 12 sailors - and an officer.
Our illustrious GM indicated that the sailors had on them the following -
15 GP
1 short sword
Unspecified armor
To make things brief - with the sailors alone - that would be a minimum of 180 GP - divided by us 7 that is a total of 25 gold pieces approximately.
Naturally - this doesn't count the gear on the officer that we took.
I am sure that happened, as both Dhaavan and I did a rather thorough search of the prisoners.
That would mean - at least - we'd have 275 GP a piece from the coin off the sailors - this doesn't count the coin off the officer - or whatever else she had.
While it is clear she had at least one magic weapon - that takes us to the rest of the weapons.
So far we're looking at a point of 14 short swords (the lovely officer hit me with two short swords) - and while I don't think any of them were magical - that is quite a bit of money.
Harrigan seems content for us to claim booty from the fallen - I doubt much he'd mind if we had sold those things to Grok. While we didn't formally have time to do so on the main thread - as it has been suggested that distribution of wealth be done on the OOC thread - it seems reasonable to suggest it here in a form of "ret-con".
14 short swords is base price of 140 Gold Pieces. At resale - we'd get less - but that stinks as it would make the distribution of gold much easier.
Which reminds me - oh mighty GM - was any of the gear special - even though it is not magical? Heraldry devices, uniformed, royalty crests, religious symbols, runes? Doesn't have to be magic - but I'm just curious.
So, as soon as we get the go-ahead from the GM - we're looking at a minimum of an extra 25 GP a piece - not counting what was on the officer - not counting what we could have gotten for the weapons (never mind the armor, as it was likely they wearing it) - and not counting any potential special items on our prisoners that me and Dhaavan were searching (here's hoping the officer had a map of her pirate booty!).
Well - when it's all said and done - I guess we wait now on the response from the GM. But hey - at least the extra 25 gold will look shiny on the ship when we can't spend it, right :)
Heh - shiny!
Line from an Old Pirate Shanty -
Burn the land, and boil the sea...
You can't take the sky from me...

Rain has offered Flynn the +1 short sword.
The +1 natural armor amulet is either for Dhaavan or Jiro. Please let me know if you do not care to have it. It'll help with the decision-making. ;)

While I'd really like it, Dhaavan needs the ac boost more than Seijiro does, so I recommend it go to him. Thanks for thinking of me though :)

Well, maybe when Dhaavan becomes more magically powerful, he will not need the amulet for protection anymore and then Jiro can have it ... :)
@ Flynn: You're welcome. :)
Valeros Jaloksin |
To everyone: Immortal is aware of this as he's in other games I'm running but just to let you know. I recently applied for and accepted a promotion at my job which is awesome. However the flip side is during the transition I'm really getting hammered trying to finish up my current projects before moving over to the other area. So my posting is taking the hit because of it, especially as I do a lot of my posting at work. That plus being sick last week is really just dogging me. Sorry for my absence and hopefully things will smooth down soon enough. In the meantime, a big thanks to Immortal for DMPCing as necessary and also to the rest of you for trying to include me as much as you're able given my sporadic postings.
Also to note, Valeros was built to be a healer by default. So he has no compunction about blowing all his spells on CLW for the group, as necessary. I'll still leave it to Immortal to deal with this as necessary but wanted to make you guys aware of how I plan on him playing. So outside of IC roleplaying getting in the way, feel free to ask for healing.
DM Immortal |
Thanks for updating Valeros and don't worry about it I have been happy to help while the craziness is occurring. Thankfully its a good kind of craziness in that you got a promotion. Congrats again!
Dhaavan |
Hey, so i totally forgot to mention but I'm out fo town at another wedding this weekend. I'll be on a plane this afternoon and evening, but may be able to post a basic "WWDD".
I get back tuesday but that's my RL game, so i man not post tuesday night... I'll let ys know, but just to warn, i won't be on that much this week.
Horatio Flynn |
Valeros: Good to hear from you - and I congratulate your for your promotion. Good times! Meanwhile, as you have a different schedule, if you ever want to toss up some social RP on the other thread, I'll play it out with you, if you'd like, as soon as I see it.
Dhaavan: Enjoy the wedding, sir. Hopefully there are plenty of lovely lasses to tempt your eye at the wedding. Have a great time!
Seijiro |
On that same note, I have a gallery showing this weekend and will be gone during the hours when the gallery is open, so no posting for me Saturday or Sunday except early morning and late at night. I will read and post when I can, of course, and look forward to more rp soon.
DM Immortal |
Dhaavan: Have fun at the wedding!
Seijiro: Good luck with the Gallery opening! Post pictures as I'd love to see your work.
Seijiro |
You can see my work at deviantart. A lot of my pieces are posted there... mostly the 'traditional' ones, but a few 'arty' pieces as well. Enjoy.
