It isn't that they won't take me back as much as that, at this point, I really haven't the faintest as to WHEN I'll be able to return to work. The doc says at least a month to be certain my multiple prescriptions are doing their job and not killing me with side effects (which they are close to right now, in the initial couple weeks). And we keep turning up complications and further health issues as I go in for appointments; years of bad habits and/or hard living now catching up to me.
Blah.
Happy to be alive, happy it wasn't another heart attack, full of regret that I hadn't taken better care of myself all along, pissed off that I live in one of the worst countries for health care in the freakin' first world...
Sigh.
Thanks for all the good wishes; see y'all here.

Polish homophobia and clerks' willfulness strikes again.
This time in the form of civil magistrate's clerk overstepping his authority. Polish woman who want to get married with another woman in France applied for a certificates that she is eligible for marriage (e.g. she's not married currently). The magistrate clerk responsible gave negative response citing that according to Polish law marriage is a union of man and woman. Appeal (and possibly court battle) will follow.

Drejk |

Officials exceeding their authority is a common problem here in Poland, not only in matters related to sexual orientation.
In this case law specifies conditions required to receive the certificate: being adult, not being married. The clerk turned it from a certificate into permit, which it's not.
There were interesting article by Polish gay living in Hungary who got into Hungarian civil union with Hungarian man. When he was asked for the same certificate he voiced his concern that Polish office will refuse to issue it... Hungarian official told him not to worry because civil registry is here to help citizens, not hinder and they have procedure in such cases (implying that they already had some problems with civil registry offices from other countries, including Poland): they will help him write petition to substitute personally written declaration that he is not aware of any legal contraindications against marriage for the certificate.

Guys guys guys. I went to the Capital Pride parade and had so much fun. Everyone was so nice and friendly of course. And there were drag queens in superhero costumes, which for some reason is just the most awesome thing ever. (If you didn't click on the link above, the theme of the festival was "Unleash the Superhero in You" so there were lots of superhero costumes, both of RL superheroes and people in rainbow capes and such. Of course this tickled both my queer heart and my geeky heart.)
Sadly, just as Lynda Carter's car passed, she turned to talk to her companion in the car so I didn't get a good look or get to wave to her (amongst the other thousands of people trying to) but she was still like 20 feet away from me, which I am fangirl enough to be happy about. From what I saw of her, I'm guessing she's from the version of Amazons who were granted agelessness by Aphrodite. ;)
One thing that was really touching at the parade was that some of the loudest cheers for the floats and marchers that past were for the PFLAG groups and the churches that had LGBT clergy and married same sex couples.
There was only one very small group of religious right preachers at one corner of the park where the parade passed who were shouting the usual "repent or go to hell" stuff through a loudspeaker. They were utterly drowned out by the parade once it started, and they were a paltry few and rather anemic in their "ministry." The many pro-LGBT churches in the parade vastly outnumbered them and were vibrant and loving. I was bummed the local Friends meetings weren't in it, but as my sister joked, they were probably still in committee trying to work out what wording they wanted to put on their sign. (We are a strangely bureaucratic religious society at times.) This makes me also want to urge my own local meeting to march in our home city's parade too, so that's a project for the coming year (as it's much too late this year, as the local parade is next week).
If you ever get a chance, you should come to the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Its spectacular, my uncles partner was one of the original protest marchers.
Some history and what it looks like ...LINK.
When my daughters get a little older we will take them to the Parade, at the moment its on late and its very loud and there are thousands of people and they freak out in big crowds.

Australia expected to pass an amendment to federal discrimination act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or intersex status, in particular removing the right for religious organisations to discriminate against LGBT people in aged care. Plus it makes us one of the rare jurisdictions to specifically call out discrimination against intersex people. Aww yeah.
Now why is it so hard to support marriage equality...? *sigh*

Indeed!
In related news, my boyfriend and I will be celebrating 1 year in July. We are going to Portland to visit my mom and brother (my bf will be meeting them for the first time) and it happens our trip will include the date of our anniversary. We have booked a one weeknight stay in a B&B to celebrate :)

I don't understand why our PM wont push that one through - it seems to be a no brainer.
Her fight for gender equality seems a little hollow when she wont go a few extra yards for LGBT marriage equality.

They're under some delusion that places like Western Sydney will vote for them even less because of policies like that - for all the faults and stereotypes of the swing seats, I honestly believe most people there would happily support same-sex marriage.
That, and jerks like this guy having way too much power over the Labor Party. I still can't figure out why they let the ultra-right factions dictate the party as of late...
EDIT: Of course, you can't ignore the Liberal Party in this. Tony Abbott deserves equal criticism for his double-speak. Oh, the Liberal Party can vote however they like, they don't force compliance like the Labor Party... except for the fact that he won't allow a conscience vote and you'd have to be a brave, brave man or woman to cross the floor on this issue.

How is moving in plan progressing, by the way? Or did I overlooked updates about that?

I'd have to be able to afford a ticket to Sydney first! Maybe some day though. :)

They must think that all the LGTB people (and allies) in Australia live in Darlinghurst, Erko and Newtown....
Sadly this country will take a big step backwards when Abbott becomes PM.

Celestial Healer wrote:DOMA is dead!DOMA and Prop 8 are both dead! Marriage returns to California for all people!
Probably.
For those outside the US:
DOMA ("Defense of Marriage Act") is a law that states that the US only recognizes marriages between a man and a woman. This continued to be in force even as several states legalized same sex marriage. It meant that a same sex couple legally married in the state where they reside is treated as unmarried by the US government for purposes of benefits, taxation, immigration, etc. The language in the law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman has been declared unconstitutional; thus, the US government will now be required to treat same sex couples who are legally married in the state where they reside the same way they treat married opposite couples. That is a big deal.
Proposition 8 is a voter initiative in the state of California that declares that the state will only marry opposite sex couples. Same sex marriage was previously legal in California, but made illegal by that referendum. The state court upheld Proposition 8, but it was declared unconstitutional by a federal court. The state officials of California declined to appeal the federal court decision, so some private parties did instead. The US Supreme Court has ruled that those private parties did not have the authority to defend the law in court. The decision refers the law back to the original federal court who struck down the law. Technically, that decision could be appealed again, but any future appellate court would have to consider whether the petitioners have the authority to defend the law at a federal level in light of the Supreme Court decision. The most likely result will be that the federal court ruling, which declared Proposition 8 unconstitutional, will be allowed to stand (which would make same sex marriage legal in California, but would have no impact on other states), but there is room for additional judicial review on that question.
Hope that helps!
It is not the sweeping ruling that many were hoping for, but the net result is positive.

Sadly this country will take a big step backwards when Abbott becomes PM.
Step? Man its a marathon in the wrong direction. I thought Gillards gormless facade playing at Atheism whilst really pushing her Catholic morals were hard to swallow, and here we have a conservative fruitcake ready to step in. Why oh why doesn't Turnbull have the ticker to run?
Hope Ruddy pulls a Howard and snatches victory.

It has been this way since the 17th Century actually.

Gurby, this is a thread for LGBT gamers (and allies) to socialize, talk about gaming and relevant issues and news without having to justify their own existence, orientation, status as gamers, etc. It is intended to be, and will remain, a safe space for such discussions and community.
It is not your personal gaming space limited to your personal preferences, and you do not get to attempt to shut it down.
If you'd like to have conversations about gaming that don't intersect with LGBT issues, you have the rest of the messageboards to have those discussions.
If you want to talk about politics, opposing views on homosexuality, and the like, you are welcome to do so (in a civil manner), in the Off-Topic forums, with the rest of the political discussions.
This space, however, is not for those discussions.

Go Rudd go! There's still no chance of a Bill passing unless Abbott allows a conscience vote (and there's fat chance of that) but it's so nice to see it being said by the Prime Minister. :D
I wasn't going to put labor high on my preferences, it was going to be Greens and the Australian Democrats but I will move labor to the number 3 preference.

While we are still far-far from homosexual marriages, a pair from Wrocław managed to get civil registry to change surname of one of the partners to compound surname including his original surname and his partner's surname... It's quite nice that civil registry officers didn't attempted to block that. At the moment pair is happy with the success before they follow up with the other partner changing his surname to match.

Good day everyone.
I just wanted to let everyone on this thread know that in the Book of Beasts: Legendary Foes (released yesterday) we included Libet Deity of the Inner Self. Libet is a true neutral transgender demigod. One of the cult members described in the write up is a LN half-orc monk cleric that underwent a polymorph to change genders.
Everyone at Jon Brazer Enterprises are big supporters of the LGBT community and we want you to know that we stand with you.
