Catching up on the last week's worth of posts here, it seems there's some call for a general reminder that being trans is not a sexuality.
Whether you are assigned the wrong sex at birth and who you are attracted to are two completely different variables, and "I'm trans" is never an appropriate response when asked whether you are attracted to people of the same sex/opposite/both/neither.
I'd say they're completely unrelated, if not for the fact that for whatever reason trans people are SIGNIFICANTLY more likely to experience same-sex attraction than cis people, statistically speaking.

Wait, are we talking about the same type of bears?
I understood that reference!

Eh, it's a Steven Universe fic, so it automatically has LGBT themes as a matter of course :P
But, in all seriousness, I need beta readers. I have good ones, but they both live in Europe, so we're kinda wonky on the time zones. And I'm still super paranoid that everybody is telling me that it's great because they're being nice to me and my writing is actually complete crap.

@Rysky: *hugs* Happy Saturday!
@The Doomkitten: I have the same paranoid thoughts about my writting...so I can relate. I will volunteer to be one of you beta readers.
In other news...last night I finally got together with my one girl friend for a girls night. We hung out and talked about stuff...it was very nice. And she is just a awesome person.

That's awesome to hear Selene ^w^
And I'd offer Doomy but while I know of SU I haven't actually watched any episodes since I don't usually watch TV.
Eh, the episodes are in eleven-minute chunks. They're pretty easy to absorb say, during lunch. I will warn you, though, that nothing really happens until Episode 25, but you still have to watch everything before that just for the worldbuilding.

Steven Universe! Count me in!
Well, unless it has spoilers for the most recent episodes. I'm somewhat behind having no easy way to watch the show live.

So, GEARS OF FAITH is finally here! Not to blatantly self-promote, but to alert those of you who've been waiting for this novel and those of you who have come along since the short story "Inheritance" appeared in the Pathfinder Tales web fiction here (in *cough*2013*cough*)... the novel continues the adventures of Keren and Zae, a F/F couple, and their dog.
It also includes a trans main supporting character and a sprinkling of conspicuous non-binary folks as well. And sex-positivity. And epiphanies about respecting boundaries. And feels.
People in this book are queer and trans and non-binary and it's not a big deal to the plot or to anyone around them.
I wrote this for us; I wrote it to help to normalize us. This thread's positive and welcoming response to the short story years ago has never been far from my mind. I know the book is advertised on the site elsewhere, etc etc, but I wanted to personally thank the contributors of this thread. I hope I've done you proud.

Thank you! I love this novel and it was well worth waiting for* (though I wish the wait hadn't been quite so long). Thank you for your envisioning a world with room for all of us.

@Gabrielle: Gears of Faith is going to the top of my books to read pile...which is sadly getting bigger...:(
Yesterday was interesting...I went to a sci-fi that my friends run a boardgames room (the con is called Lunacon..,hopefully there is one next year.)
So I got to meet one of my friend's Transgendered woman friends. She was very nice and excited. I got some very good tips on where to shop for somethings and find out about another group close to me I can try.
I even attended a panel discussion called Gender Fludity and Science Fiction Fandom. Which was very interesting...and also very enlightening to me how paizo inclusive does help more than I thought. I should I mentioned paizo...but I was nervous to speak at those things.
It was a very God experience...except I hope I did not put off the Trans woman I met. She was very excited to meet me...and I was also...but I usually try to keep my emotions in check and appear calm. I will have to ask my friend when I see him next.

Some non-LGBT fun in my life. Had surgery on my left foot to straighten my toes Friday. Toes are healing nicely, and they no longer hook down, or under other toes. Seriously, I had some very messed up toes. Now I just have to deal with steal pins sticking out the front of two of my toes for the next few weeks. So much fun.
Doctor wanted me to sit home of vacation for two weeks, like I have two weeks of vacation to blow, or could stand to sit at home for two weeks not doing anything. So I slept Saturday, like a good boy. Went out and ran game #99 on Sunday at one of our local Pathfinder Society events, then ran game #100 at a new venue yesterday to earn my 4th star. Yep, grinning past the minor pain and making people green with envy (or nausea) I earned my 4th star this week.
Yay for me.

Well, let's see. Three and a half days of the convention. Approximately forty nine hours of non-sleep, non-commute time. A fourteen hour day, Thursday, of setup and meetings. Twenty four hours of being a GM for the same game I created in '13. Leaving eleven hours of free time. Followed by an eleven hour shift at my Security job. *sigh* No wonder I feel wore out. Ah, Tekko. I miss it already.
Edit: P.S. Well, since the RPG Department actually showed up on the map this year, I'd say that this year was better than the previous one.

I was going to post this earlier, but the server kept crashing.
The Program Development Cycle Explained
1) Edit. Where you squint at the screen, hunting-and-pecking at the keys while trying to read the code you've written, in chicken-scratch, from a notebook. Optional: Pray that you've got everything typed in properly.
2. Compile. Accompanied with prayers. Followed by 2b.
2B. Initial bug fixes from the Compiler build. Accompanied with swearing.
3. Test. Where you hand off the bug-infested Masterpiece to people who simply don't care how many sleepless nights you've had.
4. Debug. Accompanied with enough swearing that would shock the Devil. This is where you apply the new code to a spiral notebook, and pray that the code is still legible.
I hope that this explains everything. :P

Hey now, as a tester I do care how many sleepless nights you've had. After all, if I have to suffer through your bad code it's good to know you had to suffer writing it. ;)

Posted as a parody of the actual process, of course. :)

I had no idea this novel was a sequel to that Webfic! I loved Inheritance, so I'll have to try to pick up Gears of Faith.

Of course, my friend, of course.
I have worked with developers that I can tell put in the work and have had more than one sleepless night and the high quality of their code shows through and I have worked with developers whose code is so painful to work with that I swear they put in an hour tops.
All-in-all, though I highly respect the work developers do put in (having been one myself when I first graduated from college I know how demanding it can be but found I enjoyed testing more).
