I love Pike Place! Good choice.

I just hope it doesn't rain. It's been raining/snowing over 90% of the time for the last 3 months.

Okay...something new happened.

I was talking to my Mother about some stuff and the conversation turned to changes she noticed in me of late...the regular shaving...me being motivated...just being generally happier.

I tried to leave it as vague about figuring something out about myself and I will tell her later...but she kept asking. So I told her.

She was...surprised...and accepting...she made a comment about not seeing it while I was growing up. I pointed out to her that kids first learn to deceive their parents.

I...feel good. I still can not come out to my Father or other family members yet...but being able to tell someone in my family felt good.

I just hope she can keep it a secret...

When I come out to someone, I always assume that they will tell their spouse. There hasn't been a time when that hasn't happened to me so I'm glad that I assume that it will happen. I've gotten lucky so far. Only one wife would have an issue with it, but she also is so much about herself that even though I know that she's been told, she has forgotten about it because it has no impact on her at all.

Only 90%? I call shenanigans. Everybody knows it precipitates 100% of the time in Seattle.

I wasn't actually being facetious.

It's been very gloomy here since Trump won. Coincidence?

considering Seattle is the home of every dystopian cyber punk fantasy i have ever read, I'd say no. That said, I'm sure Trump isn't hurting the dystopian mystique.

Yeah I have told marry friends that I have come out too it is okay if they tell their spouses. Mostly because I like the spouses of my friends...

Anyway after coming out to my Mom I decided to accelerate the coming out process with my friends...so I posted on the Yahoo group. So far all the response have been supportive and positive...though I expected more by now...shrug.

I also made clear that this was something to be celebrated...one of my few girl friends half jokingly suggested a coming out party...which I think would be a awesome idea.

I also asked them in private to use Selene and female pronouns..and that it is okay to talk about...that I wanted to share this with them. Hopefully it will sink in this time. ;)

There are a few more friends I have to tell.

They keep saying we're supposed to get snow down here but THEY LIE.

The good news: It's SNOWING! SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW

The bad news: Fearing a blizzard, my job and the bulk of city agencies are closed down today. No real point in leaving the house.

The worst news: There was no blizzard. There is barely 6 inches of snow outside. This was much ado over nothing. I'm losing a day of work in a position where I NEED to get things done before the end of the month for a disappointing amount of snow that I can't even go anywhere in because the trains aren't working. That said is is still coming down... Maybe there will be a turnaround.

In other news, the date as been officially set to go the endocrinologist. That is to say, the date is after we change our insurance in March, since it is currently absolutely terrible and doesn't cover anything.

At least around here, it only started around 5ish and we've got about 6 inches and it's supposed to keep it up all day. Maybe not quite a blizzard, but it's looking like more than a foot of snow. I'm happy staying home rather than getting in early (which I could have done) and then not being able to get home.

And we had clients flying in from Japan today. Now they're stranded - somewhere.

Last I heard they were safe on the ground - just not here. Last leg of the flight was cancelled. They've got corporate money to throw around, I'm sure they're in a nice hotel not sleeping on the airport floor.

Only getting a couple inches of snow here in Pittsburgh. If Freehold was here, he'd be very disappointed.

Yes, we already know that you're very disappointed with New York's snowfall.

Out here in New Jersey we got about a foot of snow...it(the storm) seems to be dying though. Going out in about a half hour to start digging out.

I will say the winds were nasty it seemed to have been blowing in every direction at once.

~11 inches in my part of Connecticut. Wetter and heavier than the last big storm though.

I dug out awhile ago, but I'll have to go out again since the plow came by.

Yes on days like this I often invent new curses for plow trucks and their drivers.

I can not say any here as it would break all sorts of message boards rules...heck some could be even considered crimes against humanity.

Okay I am going to need some practical advice here.

I am probably going to buy a wig soon...since I have never done so in the past I have a couple of questions..

Where should I look? I would prefer to buy it online if possible...

What brand/type of wigs are affordable?

Anything I should know?

This is a wide-ranging and subjective issue.
Having done both mail order and brick&mortar places, I strongly favor the latter. But this is not about me.

1) Learn from other folk who have already walked that path, Google Transgender/crossdressers + wigs. Many blogs/websites describing lessons learned with pros&cons. Once you are getting a foundation of basic terminology, things to consider and obvious pitfalls to avoid,

2) Draw up a list of wig stores nearby and some a little further if you desire a bit more privacy from hometown. Phone calls are anonymous. Call them with a simple list of questions garnered from #1. Get a feel for how they treat you as a customer. Do they sound competent? Are they making you comfortable in what is (to you) an awkward situation?

2.5) Some questions: Will you be going DRAB or presenting as female? Will they allow you to change there? Trying on female-styled wigs presenting as female feels more authentic than male. YMMV

3) Bring a trusted friend whose sole purpose is to be an objective consumer on your behalf, keep you grounded and look for your best interest. I'd recommend that one supportive girl who offered a coming-out party for you. This is a big step and you might be overwhelmed. In fact, I would start a betting pool if I could.

4) Leave your purse in your car. The first visit is an experience. Enjoy it. Go without a sense of obligation to buy or succumbing to sales pitch.

5) Feeling educated? Go back to step 1. Stuff should be making better sense now and you can adjust your process accordingly.

6) When you do return or if you go online: Aim for quality, you will not regret the money spent; whereas buying cheap will only undermine your efforts to blend in and self-confidence. It will set you back emotionally and willingness to go out. You'll end up dropping more bucks on another wig anyway. Ask me how I know...

Good Luck

Edit: PS buy a styrofoam head for proper storage of wig. Pain in the ass to restyle if it gets put away wrong.

I am going to GM a PFS game presenting female for the first time this Saturday.

Also I was growing my hair out since before I came out so it is now down to my shoulders.

@ReckNBall: That is alot more than I thought I would have to think about...so thank you.

@doctor_wu: Good luck...and I am jealous...but in a good way about your hair. ;)

The wigs I use are just from a costume store. That being said, I'm not trying to actually transition. I would probably look at wig stores. You don't have to explain anything to them. If you think it might be easier, bring a friend or two with you. They will let you try things on and see how they work for you. If you are planning on styling it, potentially getting it wet, etc., you should probably look at real hair wigs.

As your hair grows out, you should look at just getting it done at the hair dressers. I'm planning on having a friend take care of that for me as soon as I can arrange the time. She has some plans for my short hair that can work for male or female.

My problem is that I am loosing my hair so wigs are my only option right now.

I also just found out that I now need to submit full costuming pictures before I can attend my larp on Friday, so trans group tonight probably won't happen.
