Hey all, just thought I'd do a quick little shout in here.
I'm currently working out the How (prolly ttoprpg), but I still need the who!
The What: Pathfinder, using core, advanced, etc. If it's on the PRD, you can use it! And if it's on the MCA wiki, well heck yeah you can use it. Needs playtesting anyway! ;3
The When: Weekend game, aiming for an evening through the week or sunday. Saturdays are, unfortunately, a no-no.
The Where: Now, I could design a whole world ahead of time, but I think I'm gonna let my players help on that. I'm planning to start you out at level 1 in a small valley region called 'Hellsdale', nestled between the borders of the larger kingdom of Vorinth and the Piketooth mountains.
The Why: As of late, there's been an increase in... troubles, caused by the local Piketooth Kobold tribe. A truly massive group settled into three dens throughout the mountains, albeit only one is known- near the dwarven mines, no less!
I'll be working up more as I go and prepping a wikispace, but who's interested in joining up? Looking for 3-5 players, so plenty of space!
kytanos |
I might be interested. You mind if I ask for your contact info, skype/msn/aim/gtalk/etc. I prefer to talk to gm's before joining a campaign, to make sure everyone is on the same page. It sucks to have the high concept roleplayer mixed in with the loot hungry powergamer.
Edit (Might also have a friend or two interested, depends)
Raiderrpg |
I'm pretty loose and usually like to set up an adventure, then let my players run rampant achieving their goal however they like- stealth, combat, tactical planning etc.
And my AIM is raiderrpg@gmail.com; same with my email address.
I've decided on 15 point buy, btw; and max HP at first level, average gold for class, two traits allowed.
For those worried about it being a 'low point buy amount' (( I can't BELIEVE people do, I mean... I've used 4d6 drop lowest for over a decade. Points are INSANELY easy mode when compared xP )), then you've got nothing to worry about; this campaign won't be the usual 'fight baddies, get loot, fight insanely stupid powerful boss, get more loot and level' where you >NEED< that +5 cloak of resistance by twelfth level or whatever.
I plan to make the challenges based on tactics and encounters, rather than huge-over-powered monsters~
For example, I'd never use just a half-dragon ogre when a trio of hobgoblin Ranger1's could just Stealth behind rocks on the other side of a gorge. ;3
Raiderrpg |
Okay, looks like we got a good list.
Gonna put up a couple 'working' times, then get to it on writing up some campaign info. I expect everything from basic world info, the schedule, and characters to be ready by April 30th.
The options for gametime are as follows-
Monday, starting at 6.30pm CST; Thursday, 6.30pm CST; Friday, 6.30pm CST; or Sunday, whenever the heck you guys want. Each session will be ~3 hours, with some going to four or five- I'll warn you guys a few days in advance if I think it's gonna be a long one.
So, in addition to which days you'll be available for play, so I can determine which one allows for the most people; I need the following from each of you, in the following format.
Character Name
Race/Class/Alignment most likely to play (feel free to change once world info is up)
And the one thing you like to see in EVERY game you play, whether it be puzzles, politics, or a giant demon about to destroy a town.
Thanks, and hopefully this game will start up soon >:3 I'll post a link to the game info moment I've set it up! (( Which will be later tonight because YEEK BACK TO WORK BEFORE PEOPLE NOTICE .w. ))
Edit: Fixed timing kinda rushed so I had the days wrong *flees*

Question one, is there dynamite?
Question two, can I have dynamite?
If so my disgruntled pickaxe weilding dynamite throwing fighter character I've been working on wants to join.
I sense a Fighter/Alchemist... :o
Yes, there is dynamite. Sort of. Nobody's shoved it into a red stick yet, but blackpowder bombs are available.

Quick question, have you locked down how the setting handles dragons? I know you said there would be player involvement and thing's are loose.

Now I just need a pair teeth made of flint and steel and then I'm set.

Quick question, have you locked down how the setting handles dragons? I know you said there would be player involvement and thing's are loose.
There are basically three tiers of dragons. First up are the 'Common Drakes', like Wyverns and half-dragons and the not-quite-True sorts. Draconic-Bloodline sorcerers fall into this category. Wyverns are the most common of these by far; they're actually rather prolific in some parts of the world, considered to be the perfect natural predator. Think Sharks, but with wings- and I've got stats for several breeds >:3
Then there are True Dragons of Wyrmling to Ancient age. These guys are extremely rare- perhaps a few dozen of each sort in the whole world at any time.
As far as Great Wyrms, there's only ever one of each sort in existence at a time; when another of their breed becomes old and powerful enough, the former wyrm dies. Each Great Wyrm is something between a King and a Deity of their kind.
I have yet to name any true dragons or the Great Wyrms beyond the Blue, Azamyturulomous. If you've got an appropriate story reason to name one, go for it, but try not to have them as any centerpiece in the background.
That enough for ya? >:3
Raiderrpg |
As far as player involvement, I want to get the concrete parts of the world like the deities and the continents and plot-important and a few red herrings up first. Then I'll be opening it up over the last half of the next week for you guys to put in nations, pirates, mercenary companies or whatever you like.
While I've a moment, a quick racial breakdown-
Core races make up 80% of the civilized world, with Tengu, Sylph, the rare 'intelligent' goblin tribe and a smattering of the 'savage' races.
As far as the 'uncivilized' (relative term), it's mostly hobgoblin and orc.
And yes, I'm allowing Tengu, Goblin and Sylph and the like as playable races. You may or may not suffer a little slowdown in exp, but we'll see how it goes and how OP/min-maxed characters end up before I decide that.

Re-posting this cause none of the people I've been talking to on it have done it.
Raiderrpg |
Jace, I've yet to stat-check but otherwise looks okay.
I'll let you leave background-writing until the world material is up, but can you do a few lines on personality?
So here's what we've got so far:
Jace, Half-Elf N Mysterious Stranger, Character Sheet in
???, Lizardfolk ? Serpentine Bloodline Sorcerer (No Racial HD, only +1 Natural Armor) - Kytanos's character, Background in
???, Dwarf ? Guy-With-Bombs - H.P. Makelovecraft's character
Two more slots available. I want to fill this chart out, guys, but I know it's slow going without more world info; I'll try to solve my end quickly as you work on yours.
And I need the days you can plaaaay! Dx
kytanos |
When you can, I'd like the stats on the race so I can make the sheet. Really it was just the bloodline I wanted, I couldn't care less about the actual class. Honestly i'd have liked something with more skills.
Actually, come to think about it. Why do barbarian's get twice the starting skills of wizards (or any other caster class). The man who spent 20 year's of his life in research and meditation to master the universal forces should atleast be as capable as Thrugdar the unstoppable.
kytanos |
Same stats and racial abilities as the standard lizardfolk, just less NA and no racial HD :P
Also, if you just wanted the bloodline, go look at the Blooded Hunter in the MCA wiki. It's a good one- Ranger/Sorcerer mix.
Was a thought, but I just don't have the points to represent that. The character has to have a high int and atleast passable cha to fit concept. Honesty bard is the best representation, if you axe the performance ability's.
(As for the standard lizardfolk, that isnt an accurate representation of the racial template. You notice there are odd stat's, and All racial templates without an exception added or subtracted stats in even numbers. Which is why I asked for specific stats. when you have the time (IE you have x ability, raise y stat by 2, lower x stat by 2, etc)
If I had to give it a race, it would be +2 con/str, knows only own language, that hold breath thing, a swim speed, +2 natural armor, standard issue bestiary bite and claw. From a gm'ing standpoint, I may give them another sort of bonus depending on the "subspecies". Aqua lizards get 30 swim and water breathing, desert ones get climbing (lose swim), jungle ones get poison/illness bonus, forest/swamp ones get, nothing, their fine as is.
As for the balance of that vs standard races, really I prefer to err on the side of fun. You can't perfectly balance such variables as water breathing vs damage per second. Take spellcasters vs melee classes as the chief example, long has dnd joked about this. As long as a character isn't so weak that you can't create an encounter for the party without killing them, or so strong that you can't make a good fight without killing the rest of the party. thing's tend to be alright. Far too many people who run dnd start treating it like an mmorpg where you must maintain optimal game balance at all times.
Chief example: as the character is now, Im playing a sorcerer with a high int and low charisma. Mechanically I would be better suited to wizard with the stat's of the concept, but that simply does not fit the story.
Raiderrpg |
Performance and bloodline don't match up, so it'd be a hard trade to make and require some odd balancing acts.
Anyway, Blooded Hunter casts off of Charisma and doesn't actually -need- wisdom for any abilities, so if it's just the MAD you're worried about; well, it's better than paladin or monk, right? xP

I'm guessing you haven't GM'd (or just statted monsters) much? As far as the 'odd stats', the answer is obvious- what's the modifier? For 13's, it's obviously still +1. So the stat bonus is just +2. The Int has a modifier of -1, so the stat penalty is an obvious -2.
If you need me to go over the EXACTING, then here-
+2 Str, +2 Con, -2 Int, +1 Natural Armor, 15ft Swim Speed, 30ft Movement, +4 Acrobatics, Humanoid (Reptilian)
SQ- Hold Breath, and Natural Language- Draconic.
And yes, it counts as a 'EL +1', as far as pathfinder takes it- so you'll be a level behind once the others start levelling up, at least until things are balanced out.
(( Sidenote- giving ADDITIONAL bonuses based on type might seem like a good idea, but tends to be better used for monsters rather than PC's, if at all. Balance can be finicky... ))

hoping you have another spot open. i have little to no experience, though, and if that's not cool, i'll understand.
i'd play anything you need. looks like a healer or a fighter type. i could go half-orc barbarian, a goblin ranger or rogue, or an oracle, maybe battle or stone or metal or ancestor what with the setting, also half-orc or goblin. want to play some flavor of neutral. names? how about otik?
if it doesn't matter, the goblin ranger/rogue would be my first choice i think, although i could gladly go oracle if you need it for the party.
anyhow, let me know if you have anything open. thanks.
EDIT: oh, and any of those times you listed work for me. not much going on right now. so sad.

I'd prefer you avoid playing a goblin if possible Billjoet. A very important part of my character is the fact he is a well mannered ex slave, with very little knowledge of his own people. In this way he is at once intrinsically familiar with society and has the ability to navigate social situations, but is still no matter how hard he tries he is still Not human. an "outsider" or worst of all a monster to some. Having another "monstrous" player character kind of ruin's that element, as it ceases to become a unique part of the character and more of a "So, Suck it up and stop complaining. Atleast your not 3 feet tall".
If you really have your heart set on a goblin, don't let me stop you. I wouldn't dream of stepping on another players fun. I just ask that if an alternative character would still be entertaining you consider it.

...
If he wants to play a goblin, he wants to play a GOBLIN.
Kytanos, if that's gonna be your attitude towards other people wanting to play special characters, I think I'm gonna have to ask you to leave the game- especially since you went on and on with me so we could set up YOUR special character for three days.
So we've got the following then-
Billjoet playing a goblin something.
Novel playing a human Sorcerer.
H.P. playing a dwarf bomber (need a little more info or some sign of life, please).
Jace Knives playing a Mysterious Stranger.
I think it's time we all met, as well- as far as which IRC server to use, anyone have a preference? I'm good with Espernet, personally.

I was never abrasive in that sentence, nor am I against special characters. I provided good reasoning for my request that he not play a goblin and In the end I said "If you have your heat set on a goblin, Don't let me stop you.". I may be very into my own character concept's, but I care deeply about other players enjoyment.
Either way, the frustration you have with me is quite evident. I apologize for wasting your time and wish your campaign the best.

The fact you chose to post it at all to a new player was abrasive. The fact you chose to post it after our back-and-forths on AIM was abrasive. The fact you went on and on arguing for your overly-complicated lizardfolk design and then pounced to roar at the very next person to play a non-core race, because it'd 'hurt your own design' points to you only caring about your own enjoyment.
Please refrain from posting in here again.
And with that ugliness over with, rest of ya- Espernet good?

I think this recruitment had a bad Opening Post,
most opening Posts are like this.
It helps when you provide information on character creation rules and if it's a home brew game, a bit about the game's world helps a lot, especially views on races and classes.
Raiderrpg |
Ah, that is helpful. Thanks >:3
Shamelessly copying your method:
Base creation rules:
Stats: 15 Point Buy (no stats below 7)
Traits: 2
Classes and Archetypes allowed: Any on the PRD or the MCA wiki. No Anti-Paladins.
Races: Core + Assimar, Tiefling, Changeling, Tenglu, Sylph, Goblin.
Starting Cash: Average
Alignments: Preferabbly non-evil; if you MUST play evil, then generally in outlook only; no mass-murderers.
Starting Level: 1
Character Background: Either a resident of a nearby city or of Hellsdale itself; or a wanderer from further away. Either way, you must have a reason to be travelling to Hellsdale.
