So I have this Dwarven Cleric and he just feels self conscious about carrying around a scimitar. He gets looks from all the other dwarves with their great dwarven axes and beautiful hammers. He doesnt want to offend his deity with her preferred weapon and all but it just doesnt fell right?
Any ideas for a pathfinder society member? Help a dwarf out eeeh?

My dwarven cleric of Cayden doesn't carry a Rapier either.
His business card DOES say "Finest Swordsman" and I explain that he just doesn't want to outshine the fighters in the party - so he carries a BattleAx. ;)
(besides the fact that he would feel funny, being a cleric with Love sub-domain can using a Rapier...)

Clerics are proficient with their deity's favored weapon, but are under no obligation to actually use it.
Maybe not obligated, but some deities care more about it than others, and Sarenrae's at the top of that list.
I'd say the dwarf needs to get over it. He's a cleric. Singing the praises of his deity, and her favored weapon, should be more important to him than fitting in with the other dwarves! If he wanted to fit in with the other dwarves, he'd worship Torag or another dwarf-specific deity instead of Sarenrae.

the blade of the scimitar represents the curve of the dawning sun (the Dawnflower)... or something like that. Get an ax, sometimes called a "moon ax" with the same curve to the blade. It's the curve of the dawning sun - it just can't be "reskined" as a scimitar. Flavor wise - sounds great to me.
Or maybe just be a Separatist Cleric - they loose the Favored weapon anyway. Which means you could be a member of the "Reformed Church of the Dawnflower". Is this clerics name Martin or Luther?

As a Dwarven Cleric of Sarenrae, I only use my scimitar when I need to. I carry no other weapons, but I do summon Celestial creatures to help me in my battles. This allows me to help in any way possible and still have other options in battle. Those other Dwarves could only wish to use the blessed weapon of our god.
(Had to post this in character. Level 10 Dwarven Cleric of Sarenrae. If the flavor of the weapon fits the character, I feel it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.)

First as a PFS player have fun with it what ever it is.
now the not so serious as Chot - an cleric of Torag as well as Diabolist(10 cleric/1 diabolist)Return to Torag brother. Reject you lawless god, return to your heritage, return to your strength, return to Torag. All dwarves are savable, I travel to the depths of Asmodeus's realm and delivered lost dwarves to Torag. The realm of Sarenrae is a fiery lawless place, throw down your scimitar and let Torag pick you up as you hold a mighty warhammer.
Torag has worked through all dwarves to bring the strength the forge to all of us, even those who fallow weaker dark gods.
Repeat
make a story, have fun and go with it.

It may not be optimal, but if you carry a large sized one it'll be intimidating enough. It depends on how often you use it for actual melee.
Not to nitpick, but I'm assuming you mean cosmetically large. Small/Medium weapons are the only ones allowed in PFS to my knowledge; you need Chronicle sheet access to size Large or bigger versions of weaponry.

Indeed. How important is his faith to him? Is it less important than conforming to the expectations of some of his fellows? If so, then why is he a cleric?
... besides, if your fellows are true dwarves, they care more about prowess than the tools used. I think even stuffy Torag would be okay with his followers using whatever tools are most appropriate to further his goals. Only the foolishly conservative are so inflexible as to dictate methodology in addition to policy.

I think the other dwarves are probably more confused at your choice of vocation and religious bent than they are by your weapon... dwarves as a whole are a hardy enduring and diligent race who praise their Lord and Maker Torag as they toil endlessly at the forge and smithy, singing His praises in low rumbling tones as they accompany songs of worship to the clang of hammer and anvil and the roar of the forge. Sarenrae the Dawn Flower is an odd choice for a dwarf to follow given the norms of the race, and your fellows probably consider you as downright strange for many many reasons, most of which have nothing to do with that flimsy curved blade at your waist.

This.
I've got a paladin of Sarenrae who's going longsword and Shield. Why?? He never got the 'feel' for the scimitar, he prefers the old trusted longsword.
'prefered weapon' shouldn't be a cage that your character is stuck with over what the player would rather use.

A dwarf worshipping Sarenrae is a bit of an odd duck and *should* feel out of place.
Honestly, I kind of think he should wear it proudly. When someone asks why a dwarf is using a scimitar, it's a great opportunity to explain why a creature of tunnels and stone loves and worships the goddess of deserts and the sun.

Honestly now, there are enough ideas here to fill out ten character sheets worth of different dwarves. Hope something piques your interest.
My favorite ones are: 1) keep using your old racial weapons(what a grognard notion...) but flavor them with imagery of the sun or desert motifs. A battle axe with a circle or ankh-like blade, a heavy pick that's forged in the shape of a solar with outstretched wings with the wing tips delivering the damage, etc. Your character is a devout worshipper, but they worship in their own way, unbound by some less-than-clear dogma.
2) Jump the Sarenrae bandwagon entirely, but have your dwarf come from a desert region. Check out the dwarves of Osirion for ideas. Ouat caste pharaonic guards that shave their heads out of respect for the rulers of Osirion. Naturally, Sarenrae is a big no-no for an Osirionite, but maybe the Ouat can be a springboard to get you out of the beer-chugging elf-hating axe midget mold that's been around ever since Tolkien.
I particularly like mentions of the jungle dwarfs of the Shattered Range, but info about them is hard to come by. Anyway, no need for fantasy orthodoxy, it's a world with laser guns and Kimme...Iobarian savages coexisting afterall.
Maybe your character does not see scimitars as Garundi/Keleshite curved swords at all, but is instead a follower of some ancient Dwarven warrior cult(an ideology or a philosophy rather than religion, so there's no overlap with Sarenrae), which uses metalcraft as a way to signify rank and advancement. They practice with every kind of weapon and the armories of the lords of mountains are deep. Who knows what kind of armed traditions might exist, almost-forgotten, but kept alive by martial scholars or some such?*
*Just don't go overboard with exposition, a GM might get uppity with the reskinning rules. I've even had somebody pick a bone with me over calling a character's scimitar "cavalry saber" since there's no equivalent in the rules so far(no, rapier won't do, it's a fencer's weapon).
