What's your favorite Arnie film?

Conan with Total recall as a close second.

Starship Poopers, but of course.

What's the one movie you're ashamed to admit that you like?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

Beavis and Butthead Do America - heh heh heh heh YEAH YEAH!!!

Movie that "everybody" seems to think is the greatest thing since sliced bread but that you think sucks (or at the very least YOU strongly dislike it).

Le Pacte des Loups

What's your favorite Monica Bellucci flick?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

Dracula wins out over the blah Matrix sequels, though I was tempted to go with Asterix and Obelix Meet Cleopatra sight unseen on the title alone.

Which was your favorite too-young dark-haired hottie of the late 80s/early 90s: young Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Dracula), Mia Sara (Legend, Ferris Beuller's Day Off), Jennifer Connelly (Labyrinth, the Rocketeer), Phoebe Cates (Gremlins, Fast Times at Ridgemont High), or someone else?

Winona Ryder, but, since she's older than me, she was never too-young. (Actually, I think they are all older than me.)

What is your favorite movie set during the American Civil War?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

I thought she always LOOKED young, even if she wasn't.

I have fond memories of an old miniseries called "The Blue and the Gray," and perhaps Roots counts as well.

If we are talking an actual MOVIE movie (vs. a TV miniseries), I finally saw Gone with the Wind a few years ago. Scarlett O'Hara is pretty much a rotten and terrible person, but the build-up to the movie's signature quote is so beautiful, perfect, and absolutely deserved... oh it is soooo satisfying.

Rhett finally gets fed up, once and for all, with taking all of Scarlett's dramatic BS and tells her off.

Basically,
Rhett: "Well, that's it. I'm doing what I should've done a long time ago. I'm going back to Charleston and I'm going to try to forget this whole thing ever happened."
Scarlett: "But... but what about ME? What will happen to me? Me! Me! Me! What am I going to do?"

and then, with utter deadpan, matter-of-fact, emotionally spent simplicity:

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

Puts on his hat, turns, and walks out.

Burn. Of. The. Century.

I don't know if that one epic exchange merits "favorite movie" status, but it is definitely favorite quote/dialogue from a movie that is set in and around the Civil War.

Top 3 favorite Disney live-action movies?

Top Three? Too much work for me!

1. Muppet Treasure Island (1996*)
2. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)
3. Tron (1982)

* In partnership with Jim Hensen Productions.

Favorite Three Musketeers film adaptation? (And anyone who says the Kieffer Sutherland one is banned from further participation in this thread!)

Scarab Sages

The 1973 version with Michael York.

(Though I did kinda like the Kieffer Sutherland one.)

If you could remake one movie and change something in it that you did not like, what would it be? Eliminating Jar-Jar is a given, so don't bother.

Catch 22. The movie did have an all star cast but the pacing was so fast as to include as much as possible from the book it was almost incoherent. I would love to see Catch 22 get the series treatment on HBO.

Favorite American in Europe movie?

The Exchange

American Werewolf in London.

Favorite soundtrack?

Michael Mann's Last of the Mohicans, with that Douggie MacLean riff going.

For people who saw Thief, did you dig the Tangerine Dream soundtrack?

Charles Scholz wrote:

Most people say that, and I totally can't understand why! After about halfway through, I couldn't bear to watch another scene -- I understand it was a spoof, not a serious attempt at bringing the book to the screen -- kind of a Pink Panther Meets Three Three Musketeers thing with the main character being a helpless nebbish, but I just didn't think it was funny. That said, I'd love to see a Muppets Musketeers movie! Oh, well.

My long-time favorite was the Gene Kelly one, but I have to admit that the Douglas Fairbanks silent version is equally as good, if not better.

Saw Thief many many moons ago but yeah the soundtrack wasnt bad at all.

Threatened with death? No. Banned from speaking during movie night on the other hand...

I've still never seen the movie, though the ending was spoilered for me years ago. Hitdice, the question is yours.

Dude, I was just standing here...

Favorite movIe featuring super powers and cannibalism?

(Look, I don't say anything about the movies you like.)

Hitdice wrote:

I was totally going to answer Surf II, but it occurs to me that the Buzz Cola zombies only ate acid, rotting fish, oil, and other disgusting stuff, but not actually people. So I guess someone else can still answer that one!

I'll stipulate that Hannibal Lector's intelligence counts as a super power, but human flesh must be consumed!

(Nothing to see here, go about your business.)

I'll just move the game along here...

Old Eastwood or new Eastwood?

Same guy, nor are they any different.
Apocalypto -- is it worth seeing? My wife says I'm supposed to boycott Gibson because he's a raving loon, but I kind of like a lot of his movies.

APOCALYPTO is probably one of the best chase films I've ever seen. Say what you want about Mel Gibson but the man knows how to construct a good movie.

I had the same dilemma with Mel I didn't want to support him him or his work anymore but I pretty much grew up kind idolizing him and Harrison Ford. It was a problem for me especially after hi wishing that his ex would be raped by a pack of N*gg*rs. I dont know what bothered me more the implications of his use of the slur or wishing rape on his ex.

I still kind of deal with it because I refuse to set my copy of The Road Warrior afire. I LOVE that movie and I love Mel Gibson in it! I love Lethal Weapon. But I dont know about Mel these days. I know when certain people have had a few drinks in them they can say some outrageous stuff. I know that people say cruel crap when they're angry. But is it a result of the anger and /or alcohol or was it there all along and the anger and alcohol brings it to the fore?

I just dont know.

I give Mel a pass, 'cause he's human like the rest of us. He doesn't deserve to be blackballed like this. Just my opinion.

I disagree on Clint - I think his new stuff is so much better.

Which is better - Grease or Rocky?

Grease vs Rocky?

Copland, all the way :)

I guess I'm saying I like, y'know, GOOD movies; what's your favorite movie with a duel in it?

(I'm not that psycho, just asking.)

Oh man favorite duel, that is a TOUGH one.

I would have to say LOTR: Fellowship would be a slight leader in my book the Sauroman/Gandalf duel was REALLY cool.

Honorable mentions:

Yoda and Dooku in Ep:2
A few nice ones in EP:3 too Yoda and Palpatine, Keonbi and Skywalker in the volcano.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Eastwood man, super kewl.

What movie do you Love that you hope no one you know FINDS OUT that you love?...

Oh and Apacolypto is a pretty good flick, as long as you watch it for what it is and don't got all huffy about "thats a horrible unfair portrayal of central american cultures". It's just a movie, enjoy it IMHO.

Dragonslayer and Ladyhawke are VERY guilty pleasures on my account; yourself?

The Exchange

Hehe, Ducktales the Movie is still my go-to movie when I get sick or want to laugh at the duckaliciousness.

Favorite Indiana Jones Movie?

Borat singing the Khzakistani National Anthem lyrics to the USA national anthem music at the rodeo...

What hit movie do you hate that everyone else seems to love?

Mine would have to be Avatar, I just didn't think the story was that good. it was just a few hours of special effects with no original plot.

Breakfast club. I had to say so based on getting severely drunk with the promise of breakfast of the nearest diner in town. literally tomorrow with friends.

Best hangover film ever?

obvious choice would be the hangover, but i'll go Bachelor party

best movie starring a dog?

Two dogs and a cat?!?

It must be The Incredible Journey!

(I apologize about the song on the video.)

Which is your favorite John Carpenter film?

And, more links:

The Usual Suspects

Fried Green Tomatoes Was this for the cannibalism question?

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Three-way duel

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan I worked at a Dunkin Donuts the summer after this came out and I had a Somali immigrant for a store manager. She, with her thick accent, used to do impersonations of Borat, with his thick accent, which were very amusing.

The Four Musketeers I never saw The Three Musketeers, but I did see this one. I liked it, but I'm not a true-blue Dumas fan like Kirth.

Wow that's a tough one. Its between Escape from New York and They Live. I am going to give They Live the edge because of best one liners and the best fight scene.

Should they make a sequel to Big Trouble in little china?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

No. The original worked because it took absolute refuge in its ridiculousness and bald-faced "rule of cool" camp value. I think it would be mighty hard to catch that lightning in a bottle twice. (Just got that movie for my son for this past Christmas)

Where you able to enjoy Zoolander?

spoiler:
I had to turn it off at the gasoline fight. It was so G D awful. Everyone else thinks its an absolute riot.

I loved Zoolander!!!
(Guilty admission: I also enjoyed "You Don't Mess with the Zohan.")

Tropic Thunder: 10x better than Sherlock Holmes?"
This one is multiple choice:
A) Duh!
B) Nuh uh!
C) Kirth has done lost his mind!

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

"Kirth has done lost his mind!"

Rank in order of preference:
- Sherlock Holmes
- Young Sherlock Holmes
- The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother
- The Great Mouse Detective

#1--The Seven-Per-Cent Solution

Because my mind, like Sherlock's, rebels at stagnation. [bubble bubble bubble]

What's your favorite drug-culture movie?

Scarab Sages

Christiane F. We Children from Bahnhof Zoo
Favorite non-American horror movie?

Oldie but goodie.

EDIT: As a former professional appraiser of all things vinyl, if anyone has this hippie acid-Brit folk soundtrack on record and in good condition, it is worth quite a few pence.

Or, if you'd prefer in non-English.

Woops, that's a scene, not the trailer which is here.
