In the misattributed words of W.C. Fields, "Anyone who hates children can't be all bad."

Sadly, his gravestone doesn't read "Better here than Philadelphia," either. :(

Also, I have to go to work pretty soon, so can someone finish this for me:

Kid at the Auto Races--Charlie Chaplin--A Countess from Hong Kong-- and your choices are:

a) Tippi Hedren
b) Sophia Loren
c) Marlon Brando

Surely, one of these must have been in a movie with someone in Avatar?

0. Auto Races (Chaplin)
1. Countess (Chaplin and Brando)
2. Godfather (Brando and Diane Keaton)
3. Annie Hall (Keaton and Sigourney Weaver as an uncredited extra)
4. Avatar (Weaver)

Best I can do is 4 jumps. I'd posit that almost any combination is probably possible if you allow enough jumps; it's restricting them that calls for anti-shenanigans measures. Maybe we should set the limit arbitrarily at 5, and then see if other people can come up with lower?

0 - Auto Races (Chaplin)
1 - Countess (Chaplin & Tippi Hedren)
2 - Roar (Tippi & Melanie Griffin)
3 - Working Girl (Griffin & Sigourney Weaver)
4 - Avatar (Weaver)

0 - Auto Races (Chaplin)
1 - Countess (Chaplin & Sophia Loren)
2 - Brass Target (Loren & Max Von Sydow)
3 - Ghostbusters II (Von Sydow & Sigourney Weaver)
4 - Avatar (Weaver)

... and again, 4 jumps is the best you've done, which is why I wouldn't allow a person with no solution to demand that it be done in TWO jumps instead.

Well, I guess it can't be done.

Who's you favorite child actor?

EDIT: Oh wow, I was ninja'ed by Kajehase last night/yesterday morning/whatever.

Wild Strawberies

I also liked Cries and Whispers and Persona and now I have exhausted my knowledge of Bergman films.

What's your favorite Fellini film that isn't 8 1/2?

And, yes, I am working back towards Woody Allen.

I don't know Doodle, they just keep growing up. That is, Jodie Foster.

What's your favorite post-communist movie? (Look, it's a genre.)

Good Bye, Lenin!

I, of course, will never say dasvadanya to Vladimir Ilich.

What's your favorite pre-Civil War US history movie?

Poster's choice: Favorite Fellini or favorite pre-Civil War.

Kirth Gersen wrote:

Yeah, it turns out Kevin Bacon ain't so special after all--If we can go from Chaplin to Cameron in 4, there's probably nowhere we couldn't go with 6.

Black Robe

Well it looked like history to me!

You seen The Lives of Others? I know, they're the wrong kind of commie, but awesome movie.

Favorite movie musical not based on a broadway show? (Probably been asked before, but look, you're not the only one who turned to beer tonight, OKAY?)

Singin' in the Rain

Princess Leia's mom was hawt!!

What's your favorite '30s film?

Excuse me while I go look up The Lives of Others

When was Metropolis screened? Fine then, M! Or maybe Gone With Wind.

Favorite Wim Wenders movie?

Boo!

Every time Scarlett's brat falls off the horse and dies...I laugh!!!

Doodle, this is the wrong thread to ask in, but have you ever read a comic called The Desert Peach by Donna Barr? I think you might sorta totally love it. It's about conflicted pacifist Nazis in north africa.

And look brats fall off horses and die the world over; that is, the book was more honest than the movie.

Favorite Wim Wenders movie?

The Million Dollar Hotel is the only Wenders I have seen so I guess thats my answer.

The Million Dollar Hotel was not very good. What Wim Wenders film would you recommend?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

None, since I haven't seen any (hey, it WAS a question)!

Favorite female movie spy?

I never saw the movie, but the soundtrack to Until the End of the World was pretty awesome.

Mr. Nelson's question is still open.

hmm kinda difficult not many I can think of. I'll have to go with The Avengers and Emma Peel.

Favorite 60's film?

To Sir With Love

What is the coolest spaceship?

The Heart of Gold from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. One of its designers was a super-intelligent shade of blue, for crying out loud.

Favourite movie based on a book published before 1930 (the book that is)?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

Prince of Egypt, based on the Book of Exodus. Published a little before 1930. :)

Favorite movie where the action/story takes place primarily in Egypt?

If it weren't for that 'movie' thing, I'd totally have gone with the episode of Rome where Antonius and Cleopatra have gone a bit defaitistic and are having end-of-our-world orgies in the palace...

...now I'll go with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Cause who don't like seeing nazis get turned to mince by airplane-propellers?

Favourite movie based on a novel by John LeCarré or Len Deighton?

Scarab Sages

I must admit I ahven't seen any of theDeighton Movies, yet (Two Palmer DVDs rest secure among my 'to watch' heap).
Carré: The Constant Gardener (although I have heard good stuff about Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, I haven't seen it yet)

So: Movie that you, more than once, absolutely planned to see but still haven't?

Jonh Carter

Favorite Movie Based off a kid's TV Series.

More links!

Sneakers

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead Removing link. Where's the trailer for the film? Well, here's a collection of funny scenes.

Barry Lyndon Which is the only Kubrick film I didn't enjoy--but I admit I should revisit it.

The Seventh Seal

The Constant Gardener I have loved Rachel Weisz, of course, since she played the Commissar in Enemy at the Gates. Here she is playing another leftie. [Drools]

Back to Wim Wenders for a second.

[Consults imdb]

Okay, my ex-girlfriend, the same one mentioned in the Life Aquatic post in the other awesome movie thread, was a big Wim Wenders fan, but it turns out that she only ever successfully made me watch a few of his movies:

The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick Pro-soccer player, on a weekend off, wanders aimlessly about Germany and kills a woman. Based on a true story, I think. At least, that's what I remember. I liked it.

Paris, Texas I love Harry Dean Stanton. I liked it.

The End of Violence Okay, so I saw this one when it opened, one of my first dates with already mentioned ex-girlfriend, had hawt sex afterwards, and still hated this movie.

City of Angels Hee hee! Yeah, this movie's good. It's got Nick Cave and Peter Falk in it.

Buena Vista Social Club This movie was rad. I bought some of the albums these guys made after being rediscovered.

Even if all of Wim Wenders's other movies were artsy-fartsy crap, his career was worth it for just this one.

I can only think of 4: Transformers, GI Joe, The Flintstones, and He-Man. I think there were some others, but I can't recall them at the moment.

I do not consider Doctor Who a kid's TV Series, even though it was marketed that way in the US, maybe the UK too.

Edit: Just remembered a 5th one: George of the Jungle.

So, pick which is your fave, and then ask a new question!

I declare that Mr. Scholz has defaulted on asking a new question.

I shall ask a new question:

What's your favorite rock'n'roll biopic?

Stretching the definition of biopic a bit - Backbeat, about the Beatles time in Hamburg, focusing mostly on Stuart Sutcliffe and his relationship with Lennon and Astrid Kirchner.

Favourite movie with Ian Hart in it?

Best Val Kilmer movie skinny and/or fat?

Real Genius by a mile. It's a moral imperative.

Spoiler:
Though I really enjoyed him in his one Batman movie and have enjoyed some of his other roles, especially the loony Top Secret.

Favorite evil/corrupt fictional politician in a movie?

Dudley Smith in L.A. Confindential (and in the books even more than in the movie).

Go from L.A. Confidential to Beverly Hills Chihuahua in as few jumps as possible?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

Never seen either, so I got nothin'. Pass!

Somebody answer the question!

Oh, man! That one was specifically for you, Jason; IMDB lists Drew Barrymore as the star of BHC!
And LA Confidential is **** awesome, by the way.

L.A. Confidential--Russell Crowe--3:10 to Yuma--Christian Bale--The Prestige--Piper Perabo--Beverly Hills Chihuaha

I had to look up BHC and I am not at all certain that it can't be done with fewer jumps.

Who's cooler, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, or Danny DeVito?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

I suppose Russell Crowe is probably the "coolest" (although Kevin Spacey *DID* play Bobby Darin in a biopic, so he's got some big smooth cred).

Scariest alien other than the Alien from Alien (I will not accept any claims that any alien was ever scarier than that one; it's just not possible - I literally feared that thing was chasing me halfway to my bus stop every day for like a year and a half after seeing that movie)?

The various id-monsters from Forbidden Planet.

Spoiler:
Cause they're manifestations of your subconscious fears doing actual, physical damage!!

Favourite dramatic part played by an actor or actress better known as a comic?

Pshaw! Danny DeVito would kick all their asses combined.

Jim Carrey Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I liked him in ESotSM, not so much in Shutter Island and after that my mind draws a blank.

Favorite '80 buddy cop flick?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

A lot of good ones to choose from, but I think I'll go with the OG of '80s buddy cop flicks: 48 Hours

"Oh, I'm sorry, Luther. Did that hurt? It looked real painful the way you ran into it like that."

Most epic verbal beatdown in a movie (anything from a profanity-laced tirade to simple yet crushing one-liner like "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.")?

Full Metal Jacket and the Jelly Doughnut!

Favorite Jackie Gleason movie.

In answer to ShinHakkaider's question:

Leaving aside The Shining, I'll go with Stand by Me, which made quite an impression on me as a lad. Along with The Outsiders, it's where I picked up my first pointers on juvenile delinquency.
