Home-brew Campaign: Wayward Kings

@ Kax56: Yes, as long as it's in the SRD (google PFSRD and it should be the first link). Also, next time, just use the edit link on the right side of the post to add information. If it's been less than an hour, you should be able to edit.

@ Jodokai: I forgot to mention this earlier, check out some of the rogue archetypes I believe there are at least one or two that fit the bill.

Pencil me in for a shoanti (or local eqivalent) barbarian. Comes to town with some animal pelts to sell. Packs an Earthbreaker.
details later.

Ok, here is the general Background and Personality. Let me know if you have any questions or would like to tweak things to fit the game more.

Andreas Durandal, Invulnerable Rager Barbarian:

Andreas was the son of Ormond Durandal, a famous monster hunter and leader of the Blood Talon’s Mercenary Company. The band was always on the move, and he was born while traveling, his mother also a mercenary. Andreas learned to fight at young age, being around warriors his whole life. As Andreas grew up, his father’s wounds and age were catching up on him and he was losing his standing as the Strongest of the Mercenaries, and he started to turn to drinking and turning his rage on Andreas.

Andreas was not a coward, but he did not want to raise a hand to his aging father. He let the man beat on him and learned to withstand it as the years went by. It was when Ormondo turned his hand to Andreas mother that Andreas finally snapped. Andreas murdered his father. He didn’t challenge him, he didn’t fight him, when his attention was on beating his wife, Andreas cut him down from behind, in a quick but deadly fit of anger.

Andreas fled the scene. He jumped onto his war horse and rode as far away as he could. There might have been a chance that he was let off or forgiven, but he had killed the leader of the company when he couldn’t defend himself. And worst of all, he was ashamed of what he had done.

Andreas fled far, and has now found himself at the city of Redwall. Hearing of strange creatures in the woods, he hopes to create or join a new band of warriors together into a new mercenary or adventuring band.

Personality
Andreas Durandal is rough around the edges and can be a bit hard to deal with at times, but when he makes allies and friends he is fiercely loyal to them. He is direct and blunt, he doesn’t like to pussyfoot around, but he is not stupid. Despite his rough attitude, Andreas is good, and helps others when they are in need. He loves challenges and has his own sense of honor. He is not a tribal stereotype barbarian, but a warrior who uses his anger as a weapon.

YuenglingDragon here with Aleksander Paine, Inquisitor of Cayden Cailean. I'm channeling some Robin Hood, some Punisher, and some wine (which I am drinking straight from the bottle for "inspiration"). His name is a mash up of two American founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Paine. Sh*t, this guy was fun to write.

The crunch is mostly done in the profile and the background below is repeated there. I still need to allocate a few things and I probably need to check how much gold I spent. A lot of GM's doing PbP seem to be starting PCs with max gold and I may have overspent.

Background:
"And then he said, that's not my mule! That's my wife!" The bartender and the other patrons laughed and some clapped for the man telling the story. His hair was going a little gray, his face was scarred, and his clothes thin with hard use where they were not patched but his spirits seemed undiminished. He drank and joked and smiled even when he lost at dice. The crowd here, usually wary of strangers had warmed to him quickly. The tavern's front door banged open and two toughs entered. The formerly jovial crowd grew sullenly silent.

"Goran, I offer you protection so that bad things don't happen to your tavern but I expect payment," one told the bartender. "Yesterday, I didn't receive the payment I expected. I..."

You won't be getting paid tonight either, Shork," the stranger told him.

Shork turned around slowly and advanced on the other man's table. "I don't know you and you clearly don't know me..."

"On the contrary," the man interrupted. "Shork no last name, born to Talia (a prostitute) and one of her johns. She never knew which one. You like extortion and beating your son. Yes, I was at your house today. I healed the boy, of course. But if you thought I was taking a dim view of the extortion, you should take a wild guess how angry I am now."

Shork grunted in pain and looked down at his thigh, at the arrow the stranger had driven deep into the muscle. "And I'm Aleksander Paine." Paine ripped the arrow from Shork's leg, the wicked barbs tearing out a hunk of meat and releasing a gout of blood. Shork's lackey stepped towards Paine but Paine fixed him with a stern glare. "Stay."

Paine reached into his belt pouch and pulled forth a scarlet stole which he lay over his shoulders. On one side, a foaming mug of ale and on the other, shattered manacles. "Now, Shork, you know me." The room was so silent Shorks shallow breaths could easily be heard slowing as he bled to death. Finally, he was silent.

Paine turned to the other man. "Give me your purse." He caught the tossed purse neatly. "You and Shork, you work for someone, yes?"

"I...I'm...I'm not telling you anything."

"I didn't ask you anything. I want you to tell him something. The person you work for. Tell him Cayden Cailean has come to Redwall. Tell him things are going to change around here. Now go."

Paine leaned down and pulled Shorks coin purse from his belt and tossed it to the bartender. "That's to see to the body." He tossed him the other pouch. "That's for ale. Bring as many as that buys to my table." Swiftly, Shork's corpse was removed and Paine's table was crowded with tankards of ale.

"Gather round everyone and help yourself to a mug. These are times to try men's souls. But it doesn't have to be this way. Not in Redwall, not anywhere. Cayden Cailean was once just a man. A man of win and wit, of mead and morals. He passed the test of the Starstone was remade as a god and he empowers me and he empowers you to fight and yes to sacrifice for the freedom and liberty that is your due. Tonight we drink! Tomorrow, despite our screaming hangovers, we will hold our heads high for we are free men. And someday soon with your help Redwall will be free from the oppression of thugs who believe their strong arm makes them right. Free from the tyranny of a repressive, corrupt regime. TO A FREE REDWALL!"

Edit: Paine doesn't have a phenomenal Cha but he has enough skill points that he'll have plenty of ranks for Diplomacy and Intimidate and a little Bluff, too. He'll make a good face for the party. Archery can start of kind of slow but, of course, it ends up doing some hefty damage so he's got that, too. His spells will be entirely buffs, utility and healing so he's got that, too. This is my favorite thing about Inquisitors (and Bards for that matter), they make great all around PC's filling any niche as needed.

I have posted a character in the works here: Lucky Longthorn the Cleric of Desna.

He may seem unlucky considering the fate of his people, however maybe the tragedy of his people has taught him some humility in the face of fate. Desna does favour those who understand the odds and who make wise use of their fortunes.

I think one of the variant channelling options would suit this character well. Using this along with selective channeling as well as his "Bit of Luck" domain power could make Lucky a very useful buffer to any party.

I hope the variant is cool with you DM-Salsa.

The Fate variant:
All Channel healing /damage is halved. In exchange a bonus or penalty is assigned to creatures in Channeling range.
Heal—Creatures gain a channel bonus on one d20 roll made during their next readied action as long as it is taken before the end of your next turn.
Harm—Creatures gain a channel penalty on ability checks and skill checks for 1 minute.

Here's the PFSRD link:
Variant Channeling

He will not be a character inclined to violence...his overall physical fitness being a little over average. He should be good ina support role and should excel at making useful allies and gathering information.

GM Salsa, it seems you have a good fit with the other summoner applicant, and I have entered Xara for consideration in another campaign on these boards, so I shall withdraw my application. Good luck all with the game.

I'm sad to you see you pull out. I hope you have fun in your other games.

Ha! Just realized I had the wrong character name in the personality write-up. Read Thugan as Gurni

A panicked-stricken man, face drained of color, nearly ran Gurni over has he turned the corner to the tavern. He shrugged. No manners in this town.

As he entered the tavern, one server was hastily mopping up what appeared to be a large bloodstain. He cursed again the armored fool and his pack of thugs a second time, for causing him to miss the fun.

The rest or the servers bustled about a large corner table, about which most of the tavern's patrons watched a scarred man hold forth with great joy. Consequently, they paid Gurni little notice as he approached the bar, a welcome change from the hostile stares in the streets.

Not sure if that other game is going to happen now, as Ross Byers just locked the game thread! But I still stand beside the withdrawal.

I've got two test tomorrow, so I'll post an updated list after that. I'll be announcing those who are in Monday night (-6 GMT). Please have at least a basic build and what you're character acts like. I'll open up the discussion thread and have some more information on the setting posted there.

There is still time if you want to submit a character, just make sure have the info ready by Monday.

Sorry about that i tried to make it look like what Stardust did (how do you do that?) and I think i got what I needed to show if not tell me and I'll amend it.

@Kaz: There are programs for building characters out there, Herolab is one I used and it costs a little money. Haundo here was made with Herolab.

I would like to look into this if there is still room and I will probably go for a Tiefling Magus. So long as a Tiefling is acceptable. :) Lookin at CN, N or NE.

Do you accept the alternate teifling abilities from the CoT books? Its the Council of Thieves pathfinder adventure.

Shael-:

Sheal has lived in Redwall all her life, and its been a hard life. Surviving by being the toughest and roughest she could be, breaking bones and killing anyone who thought she was easy meat. No one gives in Redwall, if your not strong enough to take what you need then you best be ready to be a victim.

Personality - Hard like obsidian, wouldn't spare water for someone if they were on fire. Although she would take their pouch, shouldn't let good coins go to waste. She was never shown mercy and she has none to give for others.

Simple I know, I will add more too it but that depends if Tiefling is allowable. And exactly what you would want from a NE character, as they only do what they can get away with and with how Redwall sounds... THat could be a lot. So I thought I'd play either a Hardass or a Missionary. Granted the former would have a hard time! :)

Tieflings are okay. I need to check out a couple of things, namely the infernal bastard trait. With that in mind, could you flesh out her personality a bit more. I'm not too worried about backstory at the moment, I plan on helping everybody with that.

I've been looking at a trait to replace Pioneer(a KM campaign traits) and I stumbled upon Lucid Dreamer. Thing is, by blood, Ray is Chelaxian.

If that one is a no-go, Good Dreams is a Desna religion trait that might work as well.

Well here Sanya she not done yet, but it better to post something then nothing at all :)

@ Azten: I'm liking the looks of the Good dreams one, but the other one fits as well. I'd say go with whatever you feel comfortable with, though, personally, I like the Good dreams one, but then again I'm the GM, and that gives me some story leverage. The choice is still up to you.

@ EdenoftheEast: I like what you've got, but I feel like the personality is a little underdeveloped. Could you go a little more in depth?

DM, if you're still accepting applications, I present Zarael, half-elven ranger.

Yep, I'm closing recruitment Monday night (-6 GMT), so you've got time to flesh out his personality. I'll be helping everyone with their back story once I've picked the players.

I would like to ping this for interest. Im feeling a halfling fighter dragging a medium sized bastard sword...

Sovereign Court

I have a character in mind. First, I have some questions.

    A) He is a wild elf. I'd like this to be, mechanically, +2dex, +2wis, -2con. This is balanced. I will select adequate racial traits from apg as well.
    B) I'd like to use a variant Flowing Monk archetype. At third level, and every three thereafter, I would like to keep fast movement. This will, of course, prohibit me from taking Flowing Dodge, which I'm perfectly fine with- it does not fit my vision. I will accept at your disgression further penalty on progression to assure this variation, but as I am using an uncostomary Barbarian Monk mix, balance, I believe, is maintained.
    C) I'm just confirming I may select any favored class at first level, even if I have yet to have levels.

You may realize these are mechanics questions. I assure you, that's only because I have his history and personality hashed out, and I will assuredly grace you with it later.

Dwarf! Come, sit. All are welcome at the table of Cayden Cailean and I seem to have a couple more beers than I have hands."

Shael - In the mind of a killer:

Magus or Rogue 1
Shael is a survivor and survivors take what they need by any means necessary. It wouldn't have been the first time she'd killed a man for scraps and it wouldn't be the last if it meant she survived another day in this hellhole. Being abandoned at a young age twisted something inside her, made it easier for her to accept her infernal blood, cherish the terror it inspired, revel in it even. Because in Redwall the strong were the winners and those too weak to fight were victims. Shael was not a victim.

Shael loves utilizing destructive magic to burn opponents to ashes and clean out the remains. In combat she is reckless and unpredictable, throwing herself at her enemies and burning anyway stupid enough not to get out of the line of fire. Outside of combat she likes to drink and live life to the fullest, especially because Redwall was known to end you long before your time. If she is trying to gather information she isn't against using torture to get the information she seeks, especially if intimidation fails.

Her favored targets are the lords men, or at least anyone baring his crest. She targets them out of personal reasons and is totally for leaving them dead in a ditch or gutter, stripped of their valuables. Just another body in the blood stained town of Redwall.

Emotional disposition:
Uncaring, cold and merciless.
A lying manipulator who does what she wants when she wants.

What will she do in normal circumstances?
Anything she can knowingly get away with and leave no witnesses.
She isn't unaccustomed to killing someone if she has too, especially if they are in her way or a servant of the Lord of Redwal.

Likes.
Drinking, fighting, carousing, expanding her arcana and robbing others.

Dislikes:
Goody too shoes, servants of the lord of redwall and anyone/thing stupid enough to get in her way.

Now if evil is to extreme then I can go CN and make her more whimsical, leaving day by day and pounding anyone stupid enough to think she's an easy piece of meat. Just minus the robbery and torture bit. ;)

Half way to the bar, Gurni stopped. He turned, eyebrow raised, as the scarred man beckoned him over.

The gaggle of tavern patrons gathered at the table parted as he approached.

Friend, that is a shame. In the halls of my ancestors, it is commonly said to never trust anyone, man or dwarf, found empty-handed at a tavern.

He looked down at his own large hands, battered and busted from years of hard use.

And it just so happens I have two available!

With a flourish, he gathered two mugs in his hands and, in a single drag, downed one, to the polite applause of the gathered onlookers.

Here is as promised a very crazed halfling fighter.

Essence:
You people see a tavern full of thirsty and rowdy patrons, laughing about whatever they feel. Aldis sees a room full of victims and criminals, all needing to be dealt with... properly. Many in the past have attempted to comprehend the inner workings of Aldis's mind, perishing in the attempt. His late mother, though no fault of his own, sent him to many a medicine man to cure him of his... sickness. 'Noh won knoes whaht be in deh maind ohf deh won naught willin' tah share. Noh won will evar fahnd hout heithar. Only those who wulld beh willin' tah die cun lern me mind's ehntent,' He muses. Aldis keeps an eye on everything around him, and everyone. He only helps if the price is right, of if the bodies of the fallen can be stacked ever higher...

I will present a character draft later. It shouldn't take long with Herolab and how nicely you worded what is and isn't available.

Enaris -> ??? (Elf, Monk(Flowing Monk))

Darkmind6801 -> ???

Sorry, it's a bit late. IF I'm missing something, like your character's name, race, or class, let me know so I can fix that.

@ Haundo: I'm going to have to say no to the Evil alignment. Torching allies tends not to make well-loved, and it could wind up getting other character's killed. This is probably going to be hard enough as is.

@ Enaris: I'm going to have to say no to both of those requests. I allowed stardust to swap Knowledge(Dungeoneering) for Appraise because it fit with the archetype and didn't change the balance of the class that much. The ARG isn't out yet, and even then, it's not on the list of core books I'm allowing, so no changing racial abilities around. You're also taking an archetype and turning into something else, and I don't want to have to keep track of what you gain and lose. Sorry if that comes off as a bit harsh, but I wanted to explain myself so that there wasn't any confusion.

Sovereign Court

Completely understandable. I may submit him anyhow, using a less custom but still thrilling build. For personality issues, I have a further question: where is the home of the wild elves (or just wildish) in your world, how far is it from ironwood, and are there elven tribes in the ironwood itself?

24 applicants so far.

DM: I don't see Zarael, half-elf ranger on the list.

Haundo Here!

Perfectly fine bossman, I don't normally play NE or any evil for that matter. CN will work just fine. Also, just for note I wouldn't bomb the party members. :) She would have need her expendable, *cough* dependable schmucks. >:)

But As CN she won't have the darker tendencies, she will remain uncaring and whimsical.

Sticking with Magus~ No Archetypes, pure Magus. But you have everything else right. :)

I didn't know if we were to keep track of Casting materials so I took the Eschew Materials feat, if your not concerned with it I can keep the feat or trade it out. Up to you. :)

I saw you were accepting Tiefling and Aasimar characters, would you also consider Suli as a race option? If so, would choosing this race hinder my chances over other races? I can take something more basic if it will improve my odds. Also, how do you feel about piecemeal armor?

Sitting in a shadowy corner, Malcom thinks to himself while slowly sipping from his tankard of ale: Its probably best if I don't stay here long. I still haven't the slightest clue as to weather or not I'm still being followed.

Dwarf! Come, sit. All are welcome at the table of Cayden Cailean and I seem to have a couple more beers than I have hands."

Free Ale? You have my attention! I'm also likely to be less conspicuous in a crowed rather than this dark corner.

Malcom gets up from his seat while watching the Dwarf make his way over for introductions. He proceeds to make his way over to the table.

Friend, that is a shame. In the halls of my ancestors, it is commonly said to never trust anyone, man or dwarf, found empty-handed at a tavern.

And it just so happens I have two available!

May I also join you friend? I've fallen upon some bad luck recently and I could use the company of welcoming individuals such as yourselves.

Andreas is a human, its all on his profile page.

I suppose I should come up with a name...

Seeing as how some are playing off the scene Aleksander Paine wrote, which by the way was very nicely written. I would like to add another scene to it if I may to show how Jon would enter the fray.
As Paine slipped the barbed arrow head in Shork’s thigh Jon slipped out the back door while all eyes were on the event that was unfolding. For once he heard Aleksander Paine mention the name Cayden Cailean it struck a chord with Jon for Ryan would speak of this deity with such regard that he felt compelled to help any who honored his name. He had heard rumors of this gang and stayed on the side of the building until “HE” came, the muscle of this slowly rising gang in Red Wall. At first he thought it was the dwarf entering the bar, but before he could draw his dagger he heard the commotion coming from behind him and saw this lumbering dull witted brute of a man that was just shoving people aside like they were mere twigs. Who was accompanied by the same person that ran out of the bar the first time only this time he had a smug smile on his face. As the brute threw the door open with such force that shattered the stained glass and says “Which one of ye goes by the name of Aleksa…(coughs out blood) drrrr.” And falls face first on the floor with a knife sticking out the center of his lower back. As Jon bends down to grab his knife which he so nicely placed he says “When dealing with these people you should always have someone keep an eye out for anyone that might come back to show you up. Cause these rising gangs need to show no mercy if they want to control a piece of Red Wall and I think it's safe to say they NOW won’t be coming back for they have none left to send. Isn’t that right(as he has another blade pointed to the man that ran the first time)? The man just freezes in place and weeps on the floor repeating “please don’t kill me.” He sheaths his daggers walks to bar and hands a few golds coins to the bar tender saying “sorry for another dead body in your bar.” Grabs a pint and raises it out of respect to Alksander Paine while tipping his head and thinks to himself “maybe there is hope in this blasted city, and he didn't die with false hope." Knowing that Jon does something he hasn't in a while he allows a smile on his face even if only for a moment.

The boisterous thug stumbled back with a curse, clutching his bleeding forearm where Sheal's hidden dagger had narrowly missed going into his throat. She had warned him, but they never listen...

"You bloody Tiefling wench! You'll pay for this!"

She smiled at him, it never touched her eyes though, barely sparing the second thug a glance as she responded. "Best by me a drink this time and I won't slit you from your belly to throat pig. You'll find this wench isn't so easy...." As the wounded thug tried to draw his blade with his weaker hand she started towards him hand on her blade. Before she could draw though the other thug grabbed her from behind and tried to pin her arms. Soon after though he grunted in pain as her hot skin started to burn him immediately. Shael leaned into his rough embrace as she twisted her arms up and held him tight to her. As he tried to pull away she whispered sweetly to him. "Such a strong embrace, hope you can stand the burn..."

The man was starting to cry and then he started to scream as his flesh boiled at the touch of her skin against his. They had chosen the wrong girl to rape this day and she didn't plan to let them leave alive. She held the thug for another couple of seconds, until his body went slack and slipped away, she rubbed her hands together to loosen the burned flesh from her fingers. The other thug stared in horror as he looked from the burned corpse of his fellow to the Tiefling with the large curved horns slowly trotting towards him. She stared at the man with that empty smile and a cruel twist to her lips. "Now, where were we? Oh yes, this is where you die~" She gave a light laugh and drew her sword as she continued slowly towards the man.

With fear gripping him and the stench of burned flesh fueling his flight the thug broke and ran, dribbling blood on the unwashed stones of the alley. Shael quickly trotted after him, laughing mirthlessly as the man tried to escape her. Before he got far though she quietly mumbled something to herself in the ancient tongue and pointed her finger at his back. "Should have bought me that drink~ Bang." A bolt of light lanced from her fingers, flying unerringly at the man and eliciting a short cry as he fell to the cobblestones. His cry faded among the surrounding buildings.

Sadly, no one would come though, just another couple of dead thugs, no one would care that they were gone. In fact they had been stirring up trouble and she had been hired to deal with them. She whistled a light tune as she cleaned their pockets and took their gear for trade.

Just another day in the bloody town of Redwall...

Some of you may notice a tall, handsome, young man with shoulder-length dark hair, brown skin. There he is, lounging by the masonry stove and sipping on warm winter wine. He wears well-oiled leathers - a fine ermine cloak is draped on the back of his chair. Look there on his neck! An amulet of Desna...you'd wager he's a gypsy. You can't make his face out too well with all the pipe smoke he's blowing. Hah! He's admiring the cut of that barmaid's blouse with those blue eyes of his....the rascal!

Malcom's character sheet and personality are finished. I have an idea for a background that I'm working on that were foreshadowed in his post. I don't want to get too invested in background stories just yet since I went ahead and made him without DM-Salsa approving any of my questions.

I also should point out that Malcom's first level is in Fighter(Cad). He is going to progress as a Sorcerer every level after 1st. I just like the one level dip to make him a little more universal as opposed to only being good at one thing. I can make a straight Sorcerer if need be. I'm already prepared to completely overhaul this character sheet if requested.

Azuk (Rocambolesque) the half-orc fighter stats are finished. The character sheet will be his profile. I used the free hand fighter archetypr from the APG.

Adam--here is Luther the aasimar cleric goody goody.

If you are afraid Luther will smite the evil PCs as aasimars tend to do, here is my crazy magus. I'll withdraw Bimbur.
