Do +5 Furious Weapons give an effective +7 bonus?

When wielded by a raging barbarian, a furious weapon has an enhancement bonus of +2 better than normal. Does this mean that furious weapons get around the conventional +5 cap and if so does this also mean that they can overcome DR/epic?

I believe it does let you get to +7... other weapons that also allow that are bane weapons... in theory you could get to +9 with a furious bane weapon. Under the PFRPG rules there is no way to bypass DR/Epic unless you have a weapon that is an artifact or something that states it does.

However, as there are no epic rules out there and if you are using the older 3.0 versions then yes I would say it does in that case.

If they ever come out with Mythic level rules we may have further clarification but until then the answer is either nope or ask your DM.

A few very powerful monsters are vulnerable only to epic weapons—that is, magic weapons with at least a +6 enhancement bonus. Such creatures’ natural weapons are also treated as epic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

from the universal monster rules. It would seem that a +6 weapon is all that is needed, and if a +5 furious weapon is a +7 weapon in the hands of a raging barbarian...

Yes. I'm pretty sure in 3.5, a +4 or +5 bane weapon could overcome DR / epic, and PF hasn't even really touched on the epic rules AFAIK, so nothing has changed. Furious or Bane would work.

Not aware of any FAQ, Sage Advice, or other official answer in 3E. Just the RAW, which makes it clearly work. Bane makes the enhancement +2 higher than normal and does not put a limit onto how high that effective bonus can go. Epic DR says it's pierced by a +6 or better enhancement bonus.
