Now that people are getting a better idea of what is out there now that Distant Planets is out, who would like Paizo to publish an AP that visits some of those planets? I know I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I think epic level rules would be required before epic level adventures are made. :)

Actually the portals mentioned in Distant Planets could open the planets up to any level.

Liberty's Edge

While I would love epic level rules, I don't believe they would be needed to have an inter-planetary based AP.

Distant worlds stressed that there are a number of connections between various worlds as well as ship plying the steller seas. I'm sure the best and brightest at Paizo could create a plausible way to traveling between worlds.

Now if the travel is supposed to be at will, that may indeed be at the higher echelons.

I want an interplanetary AP, that's sure.

I think it'd be great, and if it's at lower levels (I'm not particularly interested in APs which dont start at level one, to be honest) it would be easier to plot out a 'tour of the planets' path, I would presume than if the PCs were capable of crossing interplanetary distances a couple of times a day.

The best way to make this happen is to make sure you buy Distant Worlds, if you haven't already. Encourage others to do the same. Give it positive reviews if you feel it deserves it, which will encourage sales.

I'd like to see a Baba Yaga / Irrisen AP, but right after that I would relish a Planets AP (or Numeria for that matter).

Silver Crusade

I'd like an interplanetary AP. Not sure I could convince my group of the same though...

The trouble with that is I already buy everything, so it doesnt provide any relative increase when something I really like comes along - given I dont discriminate in my spending, I have to chime in with what I want on the forums.

I'm in the same boat Steve. I was basing my comment on this post however.

I confess, I don't know how to differentiate our votes from our blanket subscriptions. So I am not telling you that posting on the forums is wrong or bad.

But if people don't subscribe, it is something to consider.

Yeah, I probably needed a smiley or something, but nothing really fit. I knew you werent directing your comment to me.

I find myself in a peculiar boat, since (for example) I really dont want Paizo to produce epic rules (since I won't use them and have lots of other things I'd prefer they do instead) but there's no way I'm going to drop any subscription over it - so I end up putting my money where my mouth isnt. :(

I'm definitely game. Probably the first session would have to stay on Golarion, but after that it's Barsoom (or wherever) ho! Bought the suppliment (hasn't arrived yet).

Sczarni

I would love a planetary adventure path.

Me! Me! Me too!

Part 1: PCs are hired/sent to explore some strange place. Possibly escorting a sage who does not exactly specify what he is searching for. When they reach their destination they find a village of somewhat creepy unwelcoming people that try to keep of the party from a mine/cave/crypt that is the point of the sage's interest. Exploring the dungeon reveals that it is connected to a buried crashed skyship that brought a few denizens of some other world to the Golarion. Villagers are hyrbids descendant from the aliens that arrived on the skyship and work tirelessly to build techno-magical portal that will allow their master, the last of the aliens, to travel to stars (or more precisely to one of the planets of Golarion solar system). Of course the portal is far from safe or accurate - it is a desperate attempt of dying entity with no other hope of fulfilling it's mission (or returning home).

Now I envision on of the possible causes why would PCs actually pass through portal:
1. The portal is activated during the book 1 finale explosively transporting the gate, part of the ship and a good chunk of the mountain itself to another world.

2. The finale ends with a mine collapse forcing the PCs to flee through portal to save their lives.

3. They learn that it was a prison ship that was transporting important prisoner(s) - the dying good alien ask them to escort the prisoner through the portal and deliver to justice. Possibly subduing the enemy in the first place.

Further plot would depend upon which reason of passing the portal was actually picked by the writers: 1 and 2 would be followed by quest for portals leading back home, possibly with a basic theme of move through portal, explore area, find hint of another portal (with possible red herrings), gain access to the portal, move through, rinse, repeat. Each AP part could be played on a different planet.
If the party were to be wardens of an alien criminal then the rest of story could be different. Maybe after passing the portal they would find themselves in a dying alien city, would meet a local princess (or prince) who would recognize their courage and competence and ask them to deal with some exotic danager - with remaining parts of the AP seeing PCs as heroes of that strange land, possibly involved in interplanetary affairs?

Don't worry, we listen to the forums as well--it's not like we make all our decisions by saying "oh, well THIS book did slightly better, so..."

Really, it's more of that, if sales suddenly drop for a given product, we try to figure out what went wrong. And since a lot of financial decisions are made against absolute break-even marks (rather than just relative numbers), subscribers who buy everything give us more freedom and make *all* our crazy ideas more feasible. So rest assured that you can subscribe and still have just as much of a voice! We're listening!

Also, I think it goes without saying that several of us would love to do a planet-hopping AP. We'll just have to see how excited people get about the solar system... :)

I would like to see one, with the following stipulations in mind:

- Starts at level 1 like all other APs.
- Saves the "planet hopping" for late in the AP and starts with a build up to the "planet hopping" on traditional Golarian soil. The players should be working toward moving off Golarian for the early and mid levels then at high levels finally be able to move off planet. The players may have to deal with a "threat from the stars" on Golarian at first, then have to follow it back home later. I do not want to see low level PCs on other planets.
- Keeps the SciFi aspect out and concentrates on using swords and sorcery on other planets and the challenges that come along with it. I don't want the players to need (or even have access to) "laser guns" and "space ships" to succeed.

Meh. There are other things I'd like to see more.

I think I would rather have an AP that focuses on one planet than one that skips across multiple ones. There's just not enough time in a single AP to cover the whole solar system.

Akiton would probably be best for that. Lots of room for pulp adventure on Akiton.

I would like one, but it is not a priority. There are things like Numeria that I was to visit first.

I also don't want to wait until later to visit the planet(s) when it does happen. By book 2 I want to be on another planet. I am assuming only 2 or 3 or the other planets are inhabitable so it probably possible to give each of them some coverage in one AP.

It's appreciated (and part of the reason I'm not going to drop a subscription based on one or two items I find "meh").

I also have to confess that it's often the products I'm not looking forward to which turn out to be the most exciting/interesting.

Wouldn't Numeria be an obvious place to start a planetary AP?

It could be, but playing an AP there and using it as jumping point are two different things.

My thoughts exactly. Quite possibly a beginning and an end place.

Yes, Yes, YES!!!!!!!

I have wanted this since the solar system was first mentioned...

Distant Planets was a great introduction to the solar system. NOW, GIVE US ADVENTURE....

Thank you for all the awesome work you do...

YES to an interplanetary AP!

(Ditto for Irrisen/Baba Yaga, ditto for the Worldwound, ditto for Numeria.)

Verdant Wheel

Interplanetary AP ? Yes please !

Liberty's Edge

I want a planets AP. I want it so bad I'd subscribe to it, and I've never subscribed for any AP (although Skull & Shackles has me tempted).

But I want a real planets AP. As in the PCs are off Golarion within the first hour. I've heard Jade Regent, the eastern AP, takes half or two-thirds of the AP to get to the east. A proper planets AP that's gonna spend any significant time on all of the interesting planets can't afford to wait that long to get off Golarion.

I don't have Distant Worlds yet, so I don't know what options it presents regarding portals vs spaceships. But I'd love it if the AP allowed groups to choose between the two. For the folks who wanna downplay the sci-fi and space elements, they could go the portal route. For those of us who prefer to play up the sci-fi elements, we could go the space ship route. (Though I'd prefer more Spelljammer-esque spaceships than sci-fi style.)

Not at all.

wants

-1 for me personally. if i wanted to play in space i'd pick up star wars or something, i'm not adverse to a bit of science fantasy but an entire ap set in space or the majority in space doesn't excite me in any way whatsoever. sorry

Out of curiosity, is it the thought of adventuring on other planets that bothers you, or just the idea of potentially spending time on some sort of starship?

What I'm getting at is: if portals/instantaneous interplanetary travel methods are used, another planet is simply yet another place, like another plane or demi-plane. No different from parts of the Legacy of Fire AP, for example.

I totoally agree. WE need epic level rules! Also would be epic going to space and either investigating strange and alien worlds or maybe even Kingmaker...IN SPACE!

Edit: Actually that makes me thing of something we should ask for. Guides to the other individual planets including strange and alien new creatures that might be around somewhere.

Let me say that I was kind of "meh" on this subject until I actually sat down with the book last night and started reading through it. I was pleasantly surprised by how very good it was. Ok, I was actually blown away and had a tough time putting the thing down.

Now I'm FIRMLY in the camp of "would love to see a planet hopping AP." Not so much the space travel from world to world, I can really do without that. But a series of portals that take the PCs from world to world sounds like all kinds of awesome after what I've just read.

As for starting/stopping in Numeria... I'm really not sure. Part of me would love to see Numeria fleshed out in its own AP. BUT if the first book took place there and then catapulted the PCs to other worlds for the next 5, I could see that working pretty darn well too.

Starfinder Superscriber

Hells yes I want this!

As for starting at first level for it, that'd be easy. Doesn't anyone remember the Tales of the Outer Planes? It came before Planescape and had low level characters hitting the outer planes.

I guess my mentality on this falls in line with "What's so boring about Golarion that people already want to get off from it?"

The world has tons of different places to explore and flesh out yet . . . why the desperate desire to go elsewhere? I'd rather they stuck with APs that did more with the primary world of the game. If they chose to do something about another world in a module it wouldn't be as big of a deal, I suppose, at least not to me. A whole AP on the premise though? I'll reiterate:

Not at all.

As much as I like Distant Worlds, I'd still prefer to see some really high-level AP material going all the way up to level 20, first.

I like variety in APs. I have nine APs set on the surface of or underneath golarion (and would have twelve at least by the time this comes out). I'm not bored with it, but this would be broadening the scope of what was known about golarion, in my view.

I wouldn't want to randomly planet hop - I'd want to explore Golarion's solar system, in particular.

Steve Geddes wrote:

Oh, as do I!

Steve Geddes wrote:

Are you talking about scientifically? As in, what we learn about Saturn and its rings helps us learn more about our own planet Earth? Otherwise, we're not broadening the scope of what we learn about Golarion at all . . . We're broadening the scope of what we learn about entirely different places that aren't Golarion.

Which, let me say, is perfectly fine! People like to explore different worlds. I get that. They've just released a magnificent campaign setting book all about other worlds (I've heard, as I have no interest in the product), so have fun with those other worlds! I'd love to see them explore these worlds perhaps in a module or three, as well. Could even connect them like they have modules in the past.

I guess my mentality on this is let's keep the APs on the primary world that still has a ton of different flavored stuff to play with and worry about exploring other worlds when Golarion gets dull . . . if Golarion gets dull!

What I mean is that part of what makes aucturn interesting is that it's part of golarion's solar system and it has an effect on golarion. If the goings on in the other planets affect events on golarion (as they do) then they're interesting to me and "supplemental material", if you will.

In an analogous way - the planes don't interest me in their own right, only in how they are relevant to golarion's inhabitants. Because of their interaction with its inhabitants and history, i think of those as "part of golarion" too - just not in a geographical sense.

The paizo abyss is only interesting to me because of golarion based demonologists, treerazer and the worldwound - without elements like that, I wouldn't be interested in the great beyond. I have a similar view about the planets of golarion's system.

How do you feel about tian xia? Why leave the inner sea? Why leave varisia? Isn't any boundary somewhat arbitrary - provided there's some connection with what's come before, I see it as expansion rather than diversification.

I do want a planets AP, but it might be good to do some more traditional APs mixed in. Pirates and Asia both are cool niches, but there are people who'll skip both because they're not interested in the genre. Planets would be the same way.

Shattered Star does sound more like a traditional adventure. I doubt planets would be next, unless Distant Worlds sales go through the roof, so that allows for a good mix.

These threads always make me laugh - everybody says they want an AP in space (or Numeria) but nobody says what the AP should be about - Kingmaker... in space? A mystery... in space? A quest for artifacts... in space? A big dungeon full of goblins.... in space?

Since I wrote the third adventure for Shattered Star, I can safely say that you'll find some stuff from Distant Worlds hiding in there. And City of Strangers, for that matter. :)

after reading gorbacz's review of distant worlds and giving it a look-see at local store i'd rescind my previous post, i'm on board.
