Oracle of Life - Life Link

Rules Questions

1) Is the Life Link damage stopped by DR?

If not, I think it should be. Otherwise, even a single dip into the class can give one ally almost fast healing 5, the differences being when it takes effect and the (HP - 5) limit. Of course, this is after you have gotten DR 5 from items or abilities.

2) Can multiple Life Links exist on the same creature?

I am not trying to cheese, I am trying to clarify rules so no cheesing does happen.

The damage that the oracle of life takes from Life Link is not reduced by damage reduction.

I'm fairly certain that the intention is that you can only have one life link on a character.

Life Link (Su): "As a standard action, you may create a bond between yourself and another creature. Each round at the start of your turn, if the bonded creature is wounded for 5 or more hit points below its maximum hit points, it heals 5 hit points and you take 5 hit points of damage. You may have one bond active per oracle level. This bond continues until the bonded creature dies, you die, the distance between you and the other creature exceeds medium range, or you end it as an immediate action (if you have multiple bonds active, you may end as many as you want as part of the same immediate action)."

Glossary - Damage Reduction: "The numerical part of a creature's damage reduction (or DR) is the amount of damage the creature ignores from normal attacks."

Bestiary - Damage Reduction (Ex or Su): "A creature with this special quality ignores damage from most weapons and natural attacks. .... The creature takes normal damage from energy attacks (even nonmagical ones), spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities."

Since the damage to the Oracle from Life Link is not from a "normal attack," a weapon, or a natural attack, DR will not prevent the Oracle from taking the damage.

I don't see any reason why not. If you had three oracles all Life Linking on a fighter, the fighter would be healed 5 points at the start of each oracle's turn.

Ah, Grick was coming from the perspective of multiple oracles, and I was thinking one oracle placing multiple on one creature.

I should've read the damage reduction entries before I asked that question.

Although, my second question was more from Grick's point of view. My bad on the wording.

Then I'm fairly sure Grick was correct. If multiple oracles have a life link on the same guy, he'll be healing quite fast.

I had no idea this ability existed. I don't know how I missed it, since I've read over the Oracle a couple times now.

Makes me think that an oracle cohort would rock. Takes all the HP increasing feats and whatnot and just sits in the back, healing himself (and through Life Link, members in the party) and throwing out the occasional spell

And for the little insane min/maxer in us all. Oracle/Synthesist snag fast healing. Requires you be level 14 a leadership score of 16 and dm permission, which I doubt you'd get.

Currently running an Oracle of Life. With Life Link and the Energy Body revelations, you can quickly heal yourself and party members. Spells like "Blessing of Courage and Life" allows you to heal yourself for 1d8 + your Oracle level as a Swift action, 1d6 + Oracle level (while in Energy Body) as a move action, and still have a standard action to case a Cure spell on yourself or Channel Positive Energy (if you have that revelation). Paired with temporary HP spells like Aid and Virtue, feats like Toughness, and an okay Constitution score, you can quickly become a damage sponge for your team even if you're not in the room.

Life Link heals every round or only every round that any of the linked creatures are damaged?

Example: A warrior linked by a life oracle receives 20 ho of damage by an attack, in the oracles turn the warrior was cured 5hp and orcale receives 5 points of damage, in the next round the fighter not receive any hp of damage from his enemies, in orcale's turn he will heal 5 points of damage more and the oracle's receive the damaga or only the first roun if the fighter don't receive 5 or more damage?

Thanks for the help!!

In the game I am starting, a life link question was raised by one of the players who is considering building a life link oracle. Is there any specific rules that would allow or disallow one oracle of higher level to place multiple life links on a single creature?

Life link transfers 5 damage per round whenever the target is down 5 hp or more...
