It's getting close to Superstar 2012 time. And I am getting excited. For those who don't know, I'm back in the fold as a judge this year. Woohoo!

Can't wait...

Oh yes indeed.

I am way, waaaaaaay too excited right now for something that's only going to have its first round up in a couple of months... I've been checking in on the Paizo site every day, just to see if the official annual announcement is up yet (wait, checking - nope, not yet...).

It's so much fun to have an exciting event, with such great content and such a great community around it. I'm even looking forward to the month-long anticipatory buzz - I want to talk about Superstar with somebody, goshdarnit! And I can't wait until the contest actually starts in order to talk about it!

Clark, it's great to have you back. You've heard this before, but you just add so much fun and color to the whole thing. I read your posts, and I feel the enthusiasm. It's a marvelous thing. I want to see players reacting to Superstar content the same way you do :)

So... right around the corner now, folks. Warn your wives, block out your evenings, set your bookmarks and keep those item-creation rules handy. Superstar Frenzy is soon upon us!

I told my gaming group last night that I expect Monday to be the announcement. Of course last time I said this they announced PaizoCon the following Monday instead. :)

Aye, I am pretty geeked :)
In fact, it is time add another practice run to the list. :) (and then some rewrites :)

Spoiler:
I am now wondering if there will be a change in the timing as PaizoCon has been announced early, and it is later in the summer. The annual schedule is a little different than previous years. Maybe they just want the PaizoCon Logo present for the rush RPG SS brings in ? :)

I told my society fellows that they'd better give it a whirl. Need more Ohioans in the top 32.

Agreed! The more the merrier!

On a side note, do you have any advice for someone who's item was thoroughly trounced last year?

Most important? Don't get bummed out.

It bummed me out at first, but I knew that all of the critiques were valid, and that I could use that information as ammo for this round. I already have a fairly solid idea that I feel will get me at least in the running for the top 32.

I'm trying to be confident without being cocky.

We might just have to announce *something* on Monday, then.

There goes my wild speculation. I was thinking maybe today, it being 12/1. I'm excited to watch next year's competition. The 2011 contest was the first year I even knew about it. I can't wait to see what the rounds are going to be and then guessing what the twist will be.

edit: It's always funny to me that when I post in this section, it still causes my name to appear instead of my Paizo alias.

My idea is ready for integration with the rules.

Came pretty close last year, so let's hope this year I'll do slightly better.

You can tell superstar is coming up, because they've disconnected the old link from the main page!

Looking forward to it, hopefully I can superstar up an item this time. :D

*cracks knuckles*

I'm pumped for this year too. I don't know if I'll get into the top32 again, but if I do, I'm blocking out my social calendar in the spring and make sure I have 100% focus.

But that's getting ahead of myself. Gotta figure out an awesome, amazing item first. One that's..... "wondrous"...

If nothing else, I enjoy the heady aroma of competition and excitement you get from these boards.

I'm kinda hoping the first round will be something different...like a spell or an artifact.

Hey you never know, but I doubt it. :)

Spell might be the only other real choice for a first round entry. But wondrous items are SO perfect for the purposes of the first round.

That said, it's not my call. Its up to Lisa and Sean and Vic and the Paizo powers that be. I'm just a lowly judge :)

A lowly judge that happens to be totally geeked to be back this year and doing this insanity again.

I have been wondering and anxiously awaiting the news concerning RPG Superstar 2012, and I was actually surprised (and maybe disappointed) that it wasn't announced just this past Friday (12/2) ... of course I "hear" that there might be an announcement in the offing today...

Hmm?

I am absolutely excited for this year's competition as well! I followed last year's pretty closely, and I was really impressed with everyone's creativity.

More than that, I'm impressed by the overall maturity of everyone here and their willingness to give and receive constructive criticism. I hope this year is even better than last!

I'll be entering, so I look forward to talking to all of you on a regular basis. :D

No need, it's a feature of the boards that here, it will display your real name if you're among the Mighty- er top 32. ;-) (You of course do need to make sure you have your real name in your profile, just not your handle.)

I just post under my real name, so it looks funny :P

Actually my real name was never in my original account so it got added and it only shows up in the RPGsuperstar threads.

I squee-d, literally made squeeing sounds, when I saw this. It's officially not the holiday season for me anymore til the announcement for the next contest is up and running. Even if I'm back to being a spectator this year, I don't care, I'm still all kinds of excited!

Yes, and as a guest judge, I'm guessing you get to comment on the top 32 so you'll get to see them a day or two before the rest of us all.

So by the looks of things I will not need a new one of these:

Eric if your out there
let our Clark lurk
for it isn't his fault
and what will it hurt
To let Clark lurk

He has judged before
and done a good job
so reward him well
and give in to this mob
let Clark lurk

So please join me
in this final plea
to let Clark lurk
Come on Eric, PLEASE
let Clark lurk

Let Clark lurk
let Clark lurk
Eric you know
it won't hurt
to let Clark lurk

LOL, couldn't resist pulling that out and dusting it off. Congrats Clark and welcome back to the warm friendly folds of Madness :)

I for one am glad to see you are back and look forward to your analysis and feedback this year. It was your feedback from years prior that gave me the courage to try and enter last year for the first time. I again will enter my item, sit back patiently, and pray for the first round to end. Which we all know drags on forever when you enter your item early.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back.

I have to give thanks to the folks at Paizo, specifically Lisa and Vic and Eric and Sean (and everyone else of course). I am so appreciative that they give me the opportunity to be a judge. I have said it before, but I think the world of Paizo and of this contest. The beating heart of both D&D and Open Gaming lives here at Paizo, so it is an absolute honor to be permitted to be one of the judges.

The amount of work is insane and my wife thinks I am crazy, but I owe so much in my life to gaming. So many of the social skills and interpersonal skills I have gained over time have come from gaming, so many good lifelong friends have come from gaming. Those who don't game don't understand just how real some of the in game choices are that we make with our characters and as DMs. The chance to experience heroic decisions and loss is priceless. The process of creation and creativity and imagination that goes along with gaming is irreplaceable and it has meant so much to me over my life. So if I can in some small way give back to this great community by helping out, I am glad to do so. It is my pleasure, and to some extent my obligation. Lots of really great people helped me, and I look at it as my duty to return the favor.

I think a lot of gamers understand the idea of honor, and that many gamers enjoy a fictional reality and world where honor and things like that matter. It is an honor to be a part of this contest.

I literally cannot wait to get started!

Clark

Well said Clark and welcome back.

My wife also thinks I'm crazy for puting so much energy into this hobby/passion. Once you get the RPG bug its with you the rest of your life I'm afraid, no matter what your age is. If only I could get her to share it with me.

D&D has been such a large part of my life for so long now and its hard not to get excited when you look at what Paizo has done with the game. Here's hoping that my work is up to snuff this year.
