Force Spells

Advice

Hi folks, I'm trying to roll up a wizard (starting at level 5) who specializes in force spells. I know the obvious (Mage Hand, Magic Missile, Floating Disc, Mage Armor), and I'll be making use of metamagic to boost those, but beyond a couple first level spells I don't know of any good force spells.

Any advice?

Mage hand is not a force spell.

Shield is a force spell. So are resilient sphere (4th) and telekinetic sphere (8th). All of the old "Bigby's X hand" spells are force -- interposing hand and the like.

Here are all of the sor/wiz [force] spells that I could find in Pathfinder.

1st: floating disk, mage armor, magic missile, shield
2nd: cushioning bands (UM)
3rd: explosive runes, force punch (UM), sepia snake sigil, tiny hut, twilight knife (APG)
4th: resilient sphere
5th: interposing hand, wall of force
6th: forceful hand, leashed shackles (UM), symbol of sealing (UM)
7th: deflection (APG), forcecage, grasping hand, mage's sword
8th: clenched fist, telekinetic sphere
9th: crushing hand

If your DM allows non-Pathfinder content, I'd also recommend that you check out the Argent Savant prestige class in Complete Arcane.

Force Punch is a level 3 spell from UM (pretty nice too)
Twilight Knife (3)
Resilient Sphere (4)

Ninja'd

Liberty's Edge

Someone needs to write up the whole list of Bigby's spells for Pathfinder. Especially the one ("Bigby's Flurry of Fists" I think it was called) that creates a dozen or more force fists that proceed to pummel the snot out of people.

Those spells are hilarious.

You may want to check out dragon magazine 328 there are some pretty good force based spells in there along with a force mage prestige class that was pretty cool.

I played a force missile mage right after out group converted to pathfinder and was able to convince my DM to allow a full progression instead of skipping the advancement at level one because of the other cool stuff that is given up from a pathfinder core class.

Also convinced same DM to allow me to choose "force" as an energy type for the energy substitution feat in complete arcane. Force Balls, Force Bolts, and Force Rays were everywhere. Also opened up those spells to the new toppling metamagic from UM, unfortunately we retired the group before I got a change to toppling-cone-of-force an on-coming attack group.

The current lack of a Force specialist is one of the few things I'd like to see rectified in Pathfinder.

You'd lose the seeking effect of magic missile (which is really sad for toppling spell) but couldn't you do a variety of force configurations as a wordcaster?

But... Jedi or Sith?

:(

Which one is easier? I'm in for that one.

According to one expert, the dark side (sith) is not only easier but also more seductive.

what's with the "but"?

OF COURSE it's more seductive. It's EASIER!

Something that is easier is going to be more seductive!

You also talk about "seductive" like it's a drawback. You say "but", I say "Easier AND more seductive? WIN-WIN!"

Well, I'll give you credit for this at least, you didn't use "easier and more seductive" as an attempt to refute claims of power. That would be the stupidest thing of all.

"Is it more powerful?"

"No, it's easier, more seductive."

"You said that wrong. What you mean to say is either: Yes, because it is easier, more seductive OR No, it's not easier or more seductive. You can't have it both ways Yoda!"

This highlights my lack of mastery of the English language. After all it is my first (and only) language. I was trying to highlight a positive quality of the force as learned and utilized by the Sith. I did not mean to provide a comparison or a contrast of positive and negative.

Actually, this was perfectly correct. You're making an assertion against one thing ("only"), BUT something else ("also").

It's not likely to happen. Force magic is too good. there's practically no protection from it. Last thing Paizo is going to do is buff up this kind of magic and sonic another magic with few defenses against it.

But the sith have a lousy retirement plan. Getting killed by your student is very much not seductive.

Nope, this is an example of me reading your post too fast. Your mastery of the English language appears to be superior to mine.

For the record, I was poking fun of Yoda though, not you.

Check out D&Dtools on line there is 100 plus Force spells listed.
Ironic as I have been playing round with a neutral group of planar spellcasters who specialise in force spells / magic.

Ironic - not just saw date this was started.
