Black Blade and bonus languages and skill ranks

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

I thought I had this clear but while I was recently going over the text about when the Black Blade gains bonus languages and Knlg. (Arcana) skill ranks I noticed a little problem.

Languages and Skills: A black blade starts with Common as a language. As the black blade increases in Intelligence, it manifests knowledge of languages and arcane lore. Upon reaching an Intelligence of 12, it gains a bonus language of the GM’s choice, and gains 1 rank in Knowledge (arcana). Each time the sword gains a bonus to Intelligence, it gains another language and another rank in Knowledge (arcana).

I thought after reading this the first couple of times that the Black Blade gained these bonuses when its INT modifier went up (INT 14,16,18) but after reading it again, I noticed that it says when 'the sword gains a bonus to INT', so now I'm thinkin' that it gains the bonuses when its INT increases (INT 13,14,15 etc.)

Anybody got the 'official' word on this. I looked around but didn't notice anything on this.

I interpret the text as the changes occuring each time the Int bonus goes up... in other words when a new even number is hit.

i'd let it work. a few languges and ranks of kn(arcan) are fine.

or

not "OMGZ THIS IZ POWR CREEP!!"

Ha. Either way is fine with me I wuz just wondering which one was correct.

More languages. Meh.
More Skill Ranks. Yay. (sort of, are you really gonna rely on yer sword for this?)

This whole thing is kinda pointless for the sword, but I'd like to know which is correct.

I'd also say, as a Bladebound lover, it is most likely they only get the ranks and languages when he gains a bonus to his INT modifier.

But, i also agree what the wording is very vague. As you said, it's not massively important, but it might affect whether you deside to take Knowledge arcana youself or not, (but i'd always find it odd that a spellcaster doesn't know anything about magic...)

Common + 4 bonus languages

4 total ranks of Knlg(Arcana)

OR

Common + 8 bonus languages
8 total ranks of Knlg(Arcana)

As you can see the differneces just don't matter, with the possible exception of the languages since the sword could possibly assist with a language you don't have. But mostly just total fluff.

Anyone from Paizo wanna chime in here? I know the question is pretty minor and either way is fine, but the language for the Black Blade languages and skills is a tad on the ambiguous side. So a little clarification would be appreciated.

I have a reason for resurrecting the topic: would the skills count as class/racial skills, or would they just get the rank + skill modifier?

Just rank + INT modifier. Constructs have no racial class skills and the black blade doesn't have a class.
