Ultimate Combat: Gunslinger Archetypes

Product Discussion

One of my favorite things about Ultimate Magic was that it included archetypes for its new base class: the Magus. Well, Ultimate Combat is going to include a new base class as well: the Gunslinger.

I'm just wondering, will we see archetypes for this class in Ultimate Combat, as we saw archetypes for the Magus in Ultimate Magic?

I really hope so, i would like to know as well

IIRC the Gunslinger is an alternate class for the fighter, so it wouldn't have any Archetypes.

Nope, the Gunslinger is it's own class now.

Interesting. In that case, I would also love to see some archetypes for it.

I hate to be that guy but where's a source for that?

I'm now having doubts about which class was its own, and not an alternate class. Samurai is an alternate class of Cavalier, and Ninja is the same of a rogue, right?

it is mentioned in the PDF of the ultimate combat play test round 2, when you start reading at the beginning of the PDF it states that the Gunslinger is its own class and no longer ans Alternate Fighter class.

Ah! It does indeed say that it's a full class. Interesting.

I just checked that myself, and it's in the introductory paragraph on one of the first pages of the Ultimate Combat Playtest 2 PDF

I was very happy that they changed it to a full class, i would have been really mad that there would be a new class in the Ultimate Magic but not one in the Ultimate Combat.

I know it isn't a gunslinger archetype, but the Paizo folks have stated that the wizard will have the Gunmage archetype in Ultimate Combat.

Aaaanyway. back to the topic at hand, I'd kind of like to see Archetypes that would not only focus on the different weapons (Rifleman, traditional pistol 'Slinger, shotgunner, etc), but also a Dragoon type, even though I'm not a mounted guy myself. Maybe an archetype focusing on stealth and coat pistols? like an covert operative

I'm actually working on a Dragoon archetype myself, inspired by a picture of a gunslinger riding a dinosaur. I would love to see an official one, as well.

A stealth-based one would be cool, although I think they'd need to introduce suppressors to really make it work.

I would actually like to see something akin to what i saw in the movie Wanted, being able to hit targets outside of line of sight.

I'd love to see a crossbow archetype for the gunslinger. Would allow the class to work in settings that don't have guns.

Like this?

Silver Crusade

Probably a monk archetype, and I know I said it again and again, but THIS would make my day like over 9000.

I liked equilibrium but I'm not sure about having a Flurry of Bullets. It seems like it would only work with revolvers anyway

Which shall be my next favorite archetype after the scrollmaster

Hah. See what you did there...since the Scrollmaster is the wizard's only archetype...heh.

Or maybe you were being serious.

I'd love to see a Grammaton Cleric-esque archetype as well. A more ki-esque grit mechanic and flurry-of-bullets would make me very happy.

But alas and alack, I doubt we'll see it.

Of course...Black Blades found their way into the magus, so something like this (or maybe combining this with the monk-esque Dark Tower Gunslingers) is definitely possible.

Here's hoping,

During the gunslinger's second playtest, there was a lot of things proposed on the forums to make this work. Basically I wouldn't mind sacrificing ranged power for the ability to still be efficient in melee - there were talents like the one allowing you to shoot on a critical whip, considering guns as light weapons, reloading several in a short time... and let's be serious, the fluff and the crunch of a gritty monk pistol wielder, with moves and high touch AC is perfect.

The Grammaton Cleric works with bullets, but also with pistol whips and light weapons/one-handed blades. A nice imagery is the use of a flurry at close range. So, fingers crossed for a nice archetype which would not be on the "weaker" side of the vows, just for the reason of it being a monk-like style.
