Recommendations: Characters with talent for both sword and spell will find a special connection to the events of this Adventure Path. Magi of the Bladebound, Hexcrafter, Spellblade, and Staff Magus archetypes will all have equal opportunity to shine. Suggested skills include Intimidate, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (dungeoneering), and Spellcraft.

Nice, looks like the staff will be represented with an archetype. Wish it was core, but glad to see it being addressed!

Well, if it isn't core, than neither is the Magus, since they're both in the same book (Ultimate Magic).

Liberty's Edge

Thanks to the Dragon Age 2 demo, I only have one concept popping into my head for a "staff magus" - and if it turns out to match, I think I will be very happy indeed.

I just saw the same thing and came over to make a thread t you beat me to it.

This is really exciting and makes me even more eager for UM to come out. I'm really curious about what these might be like. I don't suppose any developers want to give a brief description of them? Just enough to make us want UM more?

And that's not all! Those were just the ones that sounded most Carrion Crown-y to me. ;)

I meant core to the magus class and not as an archype, not core rules. Sorry for the confusion. I can see where it comes in :)

/excited Really been enjoying playing the magus. Its rough at level 2, but the 7th level one I play-tested was immensely fun. Always nice to see more options.

Hint? Maybe? Please? You guys already pushed back UM to May instead of April. I need something here... I need a fix, man...

You know you've been playing too much PF when...

The release of a new splat book is a highlight of your year.

I just got to level 4 with the magus I am playing and it is getting interesting. I have to admit though the archetypes are going to have to be awesome, because I cant see a single ability on the magus chart i would want to trade away for what is in the archetype (obviously it may be different in the final version but still). I'm really looking forward to this and I seriously want to get off the earth and push so we get to may faster (it works that way right?).

Someone on thes boards should just make a staff magus like DA and post it so I can playtest it lol

Actually I did several archtypes that I'm hoping they stole from liberally for their archtypes in ultimate magic.

There is a thread in this forum that asked for types of archtypes people wanted that has most of what I did for the magus in it.

Wait... so when the APG comes out, none of the six new base classes get archetypes... and in this book the Magus will be released and have Archetypes? I'm wondering if these aren't just archetypes for spellcasty types already... Hexcrafter especially makes me think "Witch." Not like "burn it!" But you know what I mean.

Staff Master does sound tasty. I've always liked the idea of a fighter/wizard type who specializes in weapons that the wizard already is associated with (staff and dagger, usually).

The Warrior of White Fire PrC, from Sword & Sorcery, was an awesome take on that notion (staff weilding arcane warrior).
