That is the appalling suck.Those "free" signs (a) just mean free with insurance, no co-pay, and (b) are designed to get people in the door. Everyone shows up for something free, even if they don't want/need it. Even Walmart charges 39.84 without insurance.
OK. Holy carp. What the heck happened to all the places that advertise "FREE" flu shots? I see Target, CVS, and Wal*Mart talking about them all the time! I guess "free" isn't free?(We've managed to cycle the kids' annual physicals so that the kids and I all get our flu shots in conjunction with our annual check-ups. It was funny. We were at the pediatricians and I asked, "Can I get one, too?" and they said, "We'll have to charge you $30 for it."
It was the first time I'd been told a flu shot cost money. I was surprised.
I am appalled that you can't get your kids flu shots for free if you want them.
There is even tiny tiny fine print on the bottom of the sign to prevent accusations of false advertising.

For me, PbP has been awesome. In many ways I prefer it to the tabletop. And the last 12.5 months have exhibited a most horrid dearth of PF gaming for me, so it's really been the only game going. Sure, Monday nights have been occupied with a roll20 5E campaign (*shudder*, I'm mostly indulging a friend), but that system is so . . . bad-weird.
Charging? Not a thing.
Flanking? Nope.
5'-stepping? No way.
Burn spell slots to power your smites, noble paladin. Like dropping buffs and AoEs with duration, brilliant wizard/ranger/cleric/druid? You can only concentrate on one at a time, and most of them require it! My 8th-level archer ranger can't even use spike growth and hunter's mark at the same time!!! Argh!!!

But this Hollow's Last Hope thing I've been in since October of last year is just excellent. The depth of narrative you can bring to bear fills in a gap in my gaming experience that I had been missing; too often, it was all about "Objective!" and "Objective Complete!". Which is fine, but I had been craving a greater level of immersion -- and now I can have it!
And now I'm trying to translate that over to the SWEU by running a game of my own, set in the 3940s BBY (What was it? -- 21,103 or so after the foundation of the Galactic Republic?). Lot of developmental work involved, since I'm bringing Spheres of Might and Power into the mix, on top of doing my utmost to avoid "speed-of-plot" hyperspace travel (Really, BadPeople? Really??!!) and "Force-users just win."
I thoroughly enjoy it.

It would certainly be a way for me to get to all the campaigns I've wAnted to run.... The trick if course would be finding players I like running for and who are willing to play in a rather non standard homebrew setting.

They delivered the salt, plow, and four wheeler that's used to (incompetently) plow our neighborhood yesterday.
The dog chases sun spots to sleep in during the day.

The food part is easy. Everybody likes my food. (Except for Nobody's Home.) It's the people.If you'd stop putting bugs in it, I'd happily eat it!
And don't forget I'm addicted to your Dr. Pepper pulled pork!
Well, I'm experimenting tonight... one pot is the standard chicken/andouille sausage/prawns, and the other pot (which has to accommodate allergies to seafood and garlic) is just chicken and pork belly. Honestly, who the fleurk is allergic to garlic, other than my 95-year-old grandmother (who just says she is because she's a snob)?
My mother-in-law was allergic to all kinds of alliums, including garlic, onion, leeks, etc. It was always fun when she had to be in the hospital because they kept trying to feed her things she was allergic to. Like if there's anywhere that should know better. smh
So when we were first married, my husband would totally get upset about all the onion I put in food. He would literally sit there and pick it out because it was something that he was so not used to. Now he's fine with it, but for a while it was like trying to cook for a picky child. :P
(It's still like cooking for a picky child, but for different reasons now, and at least I've got him liking vegetables now.)
Edit: And that food you are making sounds amazing. I do not have a lot of luck with either jambalaya or red beans and rice from scratch, which is a problem since I love both dishes. I keep trying different recipes, but something is always off. It's very annoying. I'll figure it out eventually. Any tips? Or is this just a trial and error (mostly error) kind of thing?

My NaNo novel is a total disaster this year. Like even for a NaNo novel. I have fourteen thousand words, thirteen thousand of which are comprehensible, and I still have no plot....I suck at description so the fact that I have thousands of words of it is at least a good learning exercise, but man oh man, am I in the middle of that don't want to do this anymore stage of NaNo. Words are hard!!!

But considering I'm around the elderly (my mom is 86 now), toddlers (lisamarlene's), and soon a pregnant woman (the Russian Rapscallion's spouse, apparently), I need to make sure I'm not giving the gift that keeps on sucking...

OK. Schadenfreude is over. This is now officially "sad". I think we've hit the point that we CANNOT make up the losses on the house any more.
We just got an e-mail that they need to reduce the rent again, this time to $3575. Minus their 8% commission, that's $3289/month, so our "net" is now $589/month as opposed to having not raised the rent on my tenants at all because they were having financial issues, which is what brought on the whole, "You're charging too little rent!" discussion anyway.
So, we've lost rents for August-September-October-November, or $10,800. We've had to put an additional $11,762.43 in repairs my tenants didn't feel were necessary. Plus half of the first month's rent goes to the property manager, or $1787.50. So our losses are $24,349.93.
Dividing losses by additional income = 41.34 months.
So we're at roughly 3 1/2 years to make up our losses. And given that the new tenants aren't going to hesitate to ask for constant repairs and upgrades, I think it's now going to be a long-term loss as compared with having let my tenants stay.

But I love food and I am perpetually broke, so I collect very old regional cookbooks, and I do my damnedest, meaning I am careful about ingredients (even when it means saving up for something I really want to cook), I'm fairly honest in the kitchen, and I don't try to get creative.
