Not sure. Since I don't really speak one lick of Japanese, and the waiter didn't speak any english, I just kind of pointed at a picture on the menu. Maybe it was beef, but maybe it was something else.......

Our first week in Japan all the wet behind the ear Japanese English Teachers went out to eat. You didn't have to have ANY Japanese to come, and a surprising number came without any language proficiency. Those of us with a bit of understanding tried to help those with no knowledge. One guy was staring at a menu, and I pointed to one line on the menu.

"That word is 'chicken'. But...I can't read the rest, so try it at your own risk."

"Hmm...well...I like chicken. Okay."

He ordered it.

He received...breaded, fried chicken cartiledge.

When I was in the airport to leave Japan for the last time, there was a black guy at this little hamburger stand. He was shouting at a freaked out Japanese teenage manning the counter. "I just want a freaking burger without the vegetables! NO VEGETABLES!"

"Wakarimasen...(I don't understand...)" came weakly from the poor girl at the counter.

"Um...is it okay if I help you?" I asked.

"Do you speak Japanese?"

"A bit. I can try, at least."

"Then please. I'm trying to order a burger without veggies. The Japanese people from Nissan left me here at the airport without anyone to help."

"Anou, sumimasen. Yasai irimasen te... (Excuse me, he's saying he doesn't need vegetables."

"Ah, hai! Wakarimasu! (I understand!)"

Poor guy had been abandoned by his handlers. :) We chatted much of the flight back to Detroit.

I know he's pretty and stuff, but I think David Boreanz is the worst actor in the annals of bad actordom.

worse than say Keanu Reeves? Not sure that is possible. Or say Tom Cruise? Or for that matter Paul Walker or Steven Seagal? David may not be the best but certainly not the worst.

Imho, yes, much worse than Tom Cruise.

Keanu Reeves? Okay, maybe you got me there.

I don't know who Paul Walker is, and I've successfully avoided watching an entire Steven Seagal film.

So, okay, maybe he's not the worst actor ever. But he's definitely in the bottom 25.

Okay we can probably agree on the bottom 25 but I would certianly include Tom Cruise in that list if not the worst of the actors out there right now.

Be thankful you avoided the Seagal legacy as well as he who is Paul Walker (Fast and Furious series.)

Hold on, Freehold. While I appreciate the offer of physical intimacy, you should probably know that despite my Boreanaz hate, I'm still a true-blue believer in all things Joss.

Except for Aliens IV.

10 you are Scottish and you played the Dr with an English accent - you sasanach sellout. At least Craig Ferguson did his English accent on the Drew Carey show to make fun of the English.

I do congratulate you on Georgina Moffat though!

Only the Irish would have been upset... The Scots, Welsh, Manx, Cornish and Bretons would have thought it funny.

Liberty's Edge

There are far worse actors out there than David Boreanz. His Irish accent is pretty atrocious, he has a fairly limited range of facial expressions and he just tried too hard for most of his run in Buffy, but I enjoyed him in Angel (especially in the episodes where he got to be self depreciating about his character) where he got to do more than just ‘brooding’, ‘melancholy’ and ‘over the top evil’.

I haven’t seen much of Bones (though it’s occasionally worth watching for that hot Eurasian woman), but from what I have seen of Boreanz in that he seems as capable an actor as plenty of others you see on the average US crime drama.

Liberty's Edge

Pity about REM, but not unexpected. To be honest I thought they broke up a few years ago.

Losing My Religion has got to be one of the greatest all time breakup songs, doesn’t it?

Liberty's Edge

Actually, re Bones, the woman who plays the title character always strikes me as a really bad actor, like really bad ... but then I understand her character is supposed to be sort of socially inept, so maybe she’s actually portraying that really well.

Just Aliens IV? 'Cause I am a Whedon fan, and I think he still made other bad programs. Several of them. Which is why things like most of Buffy and Firefly stand out so much more. Because of the other idiocy he has made.

Even back in the day I don’t remember hearing it all that often, but I suppose it’s all a matter of time / place.

Einstein might possibly have been wrong about the speed of light being the limit of how fast anything can travel.

Which would be kinda cool.

From the article: "But now it seems that researchers working in one of the world's largest physics laboratories, under a mountain in central Italy, have recorded particles travelling at a speed that is supposedly forbidden by Einstein's theory of special relativity."

As much as I'd like this to be true, I kept thinking "Berlusconi particles" (haha) and
"cold fusion in Utah."

It has to be said that line taken by the scientists who's gotten these results seem to be: "Huh, this doesn't make sense, so please go over our results carefully, everyone, because until they've been confirmed they're not worth squat."

...but it'd still be cool if the results are correct. :)

I doubt it. I think that it is more likely that there are ways around the "speed barrier" for some particles. Every time someone says that they "over turned" something Einstein had calculated they end up wrong. Even Einstein.
