I'm incredibly amused.
The week after Thanksgiving I was supposed to spend vacation time.
Got the summons for jury duty the Tuesday after Thanksgiving over this past weekend.
Relevance: Can't take any more vacation this week, not allowed to next week nor the month of December, and it has to be used up by the end of the year..
EDIT: Context: I have two weeks AND two personal days left...
For context, they make you take vacation time for jury duty? That's just awful.
(Admittedly, even Global Megacorporation gives you two paid weeks for jury duty, then starts making you take vacation time, but as long as jury duty is a financial punishment, we're going to continue to have crappy juries.)

Apropos of nothing else in my quick review of the last few days, but mostly just because I just discovered this voice and I know that some of you have eclectic musical tastes...
I recommend diana ankudinova. Youtube has her performances from the russian voice talent show. I recommend wicked game first, then can't help falling in love with you.
If if is more your speed, the charismatic voice also dissects these two performances.
Tragic backstory too if you are inclined to read her wikipedia page.
Anyway. Back to listening.

See if you can reschedule. Many jurisdictions will let you do that once or twice without asking questions.

If you're the praying type, please keep Orthos, Scint, and their family in prayer; and otherwise please send good thoughts. Thank you.
Ebon's (Ebon is Orthos' sister-in-law) father was unvaccinated and died to Covid four days ago.
Ebon's mother has it (this was known at least five days ago), but in surprise news: Ebon, Ebon's little daughter, and Scint have all tested positive. Orthos is getting tested, soon. His brother has been vaccinated, and I haven't heard anything beyond that.
I received permission from him to mention here prior to doing so.

Hey there TOZ. How are you both doing?
SkalCon is done, got myself tested after getting back and I am thankfully negative. Shanna went in for sinus surgery yesterday and is recovering well now. Lots of swelling and gunk while it heals, but she can already breath better with the blockages removed.

Glad to hear! Hugs and swift recovery to her!

Hey Tac, I also remember a passage that has to do with regeneration and fast healing as you note, but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was from, or where to find it, power of the internet didn't help...cause I checked earlier, researching stuff for writing anyway. Sorry man, I KNOW it is out there somewhere.

Clarification: I *don't* have to use vacation time to do jury duty.
Moreover, the Employer is obligated to pay any day served as a juror as a full-time day of work (we then turn the check from the county over to the Employer, Employer takes a write-off).
The conundrum, such as it were, is that any day spent on jury duty is therefore NOT a vacation day, which means that the vacation is not being spent like it is supposed to be.

I have seen Dune.
It is beautiful audiovisually and the casting is good (though some characters don't get enough screen time, Zendaya has an excuse because she really shows near the end, but the baron really could get some extra screen time to better present him).
At the same time, I had a strong feeling that I am shown imagery, scenes, and music to accompany the story that is already in my head, as I do know it quite well (though I haven't re-read Dune in a few years now) and that it could be hard to comprehend and follow to those who didn't read it.
Mass combat could look better to drive the point that Atreides had an elite army that started to be considered threat to the empire.

Also, despite the best efforts of former coworker and his crew I'll actually get my 16 foot diameter driveway emblem done.
Also, by the time I'm finished with both driveway emblems I'll have patios facing every single direction on a compass on this property.
And I don't even start around the (not yet installed) pool until spring!

Me: All of them
Other Guy: What?!
Me: everything I did this year was a big project
Other Guy: How'd you swing that?!
Me: Every job that your boss passed on as too intricate, my boss said "F#~& yeah!" And then I said "F*#@ yeah!" So here we are!

I hadn't heard that rule before and also couldn't find any reference to it in a D&D/PF context. Maybe you heard it in some other system?

We have an ultra-rare U.S. opening, and the applicants leave me scratching my head: You're applying for a $100k+/year job and:
- You can't be bothered to tailor your resume to tell us why you're well-suited to THIS particular job?
- You can't create a new presentation for us that reflects what we're asking for, and you're just going to hand us some of your old recycled stuff, typos and all?
Honestly, if you can't spend 3-4 hours prepping for this, I don't know why I should have faith in you.
A floor job at Wal*Mart? Sure. Walk in off the street and wing it.
A senior technical position with a six-figure salary? Show me you actually care.

Hm. He shows proper deference to the Omnissiah. I think we should bring him up to the round 2 phase.
In other news, this Work->School->Go to Sleep Immediately schedule is kinda rough.

Well, if this job is located in the SF Bay area, then $100k is about equal to $40k WalMart job in Arkansas. So there's that.

I typically use a 5x multiplier, so it would be a $20k WalMart job in Arkansas.
Maybe THAT'S why we're getting so few competent candidates...
EDIT: I guess the multiplier depends on what you're doing. My parents' old house rents for $3600/month, and it would be somewhere around $800-$1000 in Arkansas, so call it 4x. It sells for $1.8 million, so call it 8x. Groceries are at least 3x (when we moved back here from Davis our grocery bill tripled). Restaurants are 3-4x. Gas is at least 2x. But fast food is almost the same (national prices). So 2.5x would be a minimum, and 5x would be a bit high...

:DDon't forget the difference in non-monetary-cost of commuting. There are some bonus things about living in a big city but traffic between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm (later on weekends) is decidedly an increased cost of living.
