When you discover a YouTuber today, then fall down the rabbit hole of his videos, only to realize that he's a professional troll, except he seems to actually believe his own rhetoric and, unfortunately, he is just educated enough to give a veneer of legitimacy while also actively using underhanded misrepresentation of the topics.
When you realize that people have been mad about the same happening in various places around the internet (and other places) for years.
When you decide to do something else with your life, because there is not enough time in the world to stay mad about someone on the internet being wrong (but you're still mad about it, because he's actually causing harm, but you're going to let go because there's literally nothing you can do and your life is better by moving on instead of engaging).

My fellow chaperones and neighbors want me to go into politics, because I'm a "rational man who's willing to listen to the issues and make a decision based on logic and (real) science."
I look at the world today.
(1) My rational position wouldn't matter in the slightest. I could produce Nobel-winning research papers supporting my position, and those opposed would still oppose and claim that the papers were faked.
(2) I would receive insults, death threats, doxing of my family, and possibly worse, no matter how I voted on any particular issue.
So, why would any "rational" person enter politics in this day and age? And as a corollary, why do you think our current political situation is so beyond stupid?

I did, and it was. The GM got so into it that his wife yelled at him for being too ebullient (as she could hear him from two floors up) and he had to take it down a notch, but it was still super super fun.

... but we need people better than me willing to do exactly that so that there are less whackos actually in the political sphere! Dang it!

You don't have to worry.
No politics here except for acknowledging that they exist and I hate them.GM_Beernorg |

I am laughing so hard I almost spit out my bourbon onto my giant monitor, I didn't, cause that would be a serious crime...but still

I use a blower at low speed to get it all off, it takes awhile but I don't leave a single grain on the pavers.

And I'm likely to be dismissed before the trial starts. I'm the only long-haired hippie in the room.
And no, the case was not only not interesting, it was dismissed by the judge before they even conducted the jury selection.

I just found out that one of "my kids" from another lifetime ago when I was a youth minister is in the hospital in Berkeley with severe complications from diabetes.
He and his wife had gone to Vegas to see the Raiders and have a bit of fun, but flew home early when he started feeling unwell.
Any prayers/kind thoughts/etc. would be appreciated. He's a good man.

The local government/political sphere tends to not be so toxic. So don't aim high and stay grounded? *shrug*
Thanks for the advice Sharoth. I'll keep all of that in mind :)
I'm just waiting to hear from my current job whether they'll work with my schedule or not. Either way, I'm financially stable enough to be unemployed throughout my school time.

In hindsight it's probably an overreaction on my part, I just hate it when people hide fascism behind a liberal veneer and I also realized I do this every year, where I get out of proportionally angry over something and quit for a while.
I guess that's the canary in the mineshaft of my seasonal depression. Time to start firing up the sun lamps I guess.

Walking away maybe but Tonya firing Sara Marie has been like a mistake so big you could see it from space.

I live right next to Berkeley, and there's a passel of anti-vaxxers protesting at the Farmer's Market a block and a half from my house every week. Local politics here are extremely toxic. The sane people I know who were involved have quit.
What's that saying? "The lunatics are running the nuthouse?"
I'd probably get run out of town on a rail for using such insensitive language these days.

It's pretty sad when one article tells you so much about the state of the United States.
Here's the Snopes article in question.
The TL;DR version? As a learning aid, someone superimposed the Mediterranean Sea over a map of the U.S. So of course, someone recaptioned it as, "This is what climate scientists think the U.S. will look like in 30 years unless we act."
And the fact that it showed up on Snopes means that SOMEONE actually believed it enough to ask the question.
*SIGH*

Holy Spocking H. e. double toothpicks.
HOW DUMB DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO NOT IMMEDIATELY QUESTION A MAP WITH THAT MUCH EXTRA WATER, AND YET LOUISIANA AND FLORIDA STILL EXIST?Meanwhile, portions of two mountain ranges are under water.
I have Kindergarteners in my class who could explain it to them.

Yeah, that's the one missing piece of the puzzle:
Step 1: Curious cartographer makes map.Step 2: Random Fecesbook user turns it into (hopefully) a joke post about global warming.
...
Step 4: Snopes debunks the FB post.
So my assumption is that someone actually had to ASK Snopes, "Is this real?", and they don't just go out and find such things on their own. But I could be wrong. And I'd feel better if I were.
