To give everyone a a sample of how bad my sense of taste is.
Yesterday I made two sandwiches for lunch, one peanut butter and strawberry preserves, the other one peanut butter and peach preserves.
I couldn't tell which was which until I bit into a piece of fruit.
So you're colorblind as well?

We have a conversation in my company's Yammer (which is like an inter-company Facebook) where someone is griping about how Spotify is blocked on work computers.
Funny thing: Jammer means 'too bad' in Dutch and the Y sound can be sutstituted for the J sound in cases so we're pretty sure microsoft didnt run the name patst any dutch speaking/understanding individual.

Microsoft bought Yammer from some other company, but I suppose that they could have rebranded it at that time. I envision the decision process went something like this:
Marketing guy: "But 'yammer' sounds like a negative word in Dutch!"
Exec: "Well, that' just..."
*puts on sunglasses*
"...too bad."
And then they high fived.

Or Meta in Hebrew.
The J. Geils Band also had issues in Germany apparently as the american pronunciation of the Geils corresponds to some form of slur in German.

the all natural strawberry preserves we have when combined with peanut butter have a similar shade to the Smuckers peach preserves, plus I read my phone when I eat lunch so I'm not exactly looking at my food.

Just did a second interview(ZOOM) for a potential dream job.
I was nervous, and it showed but not TOO much, I hope.
There was a lady there that seemed unimpressed with me, but was also the first one to give me information with how to fill out my electronic documents properly. Here's hoping that's a good sign!

Oh man. I rambled. I know I rambled. This is me talking. Oh man. What if I said the wrong thing? I know I went off base with the whole "identify one weakness and one strength" thing! I suck at that question! Augh! AUUUUGH!
I know a lot of bad managers use that as a "trap" question, but that means it's someone you don't want to be working for anyway.
Here's my answer: "My weakness is that I like to focus on a single task, and I get irritated if I keep getting interrupted to work on other things. I can work on 2-3 projects at once, but I break up my day so that I'll spend say the first 2 hours of the day working on the first project, then next 2 hours working on the second project, and then the afternoon working on the third. I don't like dancing around, and I don't like being interrupted while I'm working.
This is also my strength, as I tend to do very deep dives on the topics I'm researching and I can quickly become a subject matter expert in those topics. If you leave me alone, I can do a really good job of figuring things out for you."

So, this summer I've done a pebble mosaic which is last big project I worked on in Seattle before moving back to Wisconsin. And now I'm custom fitting blue stone around already existing steps, which is the first stone project I ever built as I was originally hired to be a plant guy and this other guy was supposed to be the stone guy, well he got pissed, said it couldn't be done and quit. So I volunteered to do it and I haven't looked back since, mostly because of all the screaming behind me.

my answer for strengths is an eye for detail and animal husbandry, my answer for weaknesses is paperwork.

Captain, you may be pleased to learn that there is now a blog on Tumblr called 'Sleazy Madison', showcasing bygone examples of unwholesome entertainment and events in that city. On the other hand, you may not.
For example, someone in the early '70s thought the local scene would benefit from a 19th century bordello-themed nightclub called 'Dangles', and I'm not at all sure that they were wrong.

Yeah, there's a lot of that in Madison's history, we have a long and rich history of being weird and sticking it to The Man, literally and figuratively.
And yes, I know a lady that used to dance there in her younger years.

I took time out last night to put a few more hours into my newest game, Metroid Dread. VERY good game, but way harder than I had thought it would be even after watching and reading early reviews.
I ended up rage quitting after picking it back up after a week of leaving it alone when I got lost playing before, ended up spending an hour running around looking for paths I could access with new powers, and got ahead of myself in one place I wasn't equipped to handle. There was a full energy tank just WAITING for me in a cold zone that harms you and I had enough health to get in, grab it, increase my energy tank storage by 20% and run through to the other side but I got too ambitious and kept pushing into the next room which swiftly rewarded me with a nice game over screen. I hadn't saved in nearly an hour and realized that when reloading I was ALL the way across the region that found that path in because I was too dumb to locate and use a save point.
I SWEAR I am going to beat this game, Super Metroid was my very first video game, the first game I beat on my own, and the first game I ever got 100% completion in. I played through and beat all of the subsequent console games (I have never really been a hand-held kinda guy) and loved them all so I feel like I owe it to myself to push through despite how challenging it is. I highly recommend anyone into metroidvania type games with a switch to pick it up, just be warned, trial and error is the norm and by now I think with 7 hours of saved playtime I think I must have at least 50 deaths.

I'm usually quite skeptical of optimistic articles stating that fusion or a cure for cancer are "just around the corner", but this article and the associated peer-reviewed journal entry suggest that one of the Holy Grails of medicine may have been achieved: Curing injury-caused paralysis.
We'll see how it goes. The article states that human trials are planned to begin next year, meaning 3-5 more years before we know for sure. To be sure, there have been many, many cures in the past that worked on mice but not on humans. But for reasons I can't explain, this one feels more "plausible", for lack of a better term.
At least it's a heck of a first step!

Yes.
Yes, definitely.
Yup.
Nowhere to be seen.
Not here.
By the way, that isn't a giant wicker effigy full of captives. It's... a reed infuser. That is screaming. I'm sure I don't know why!

Well, the PCs beat the main boss at the end of book 1 of Carrion Crown. Nobody died, but I did drop 2 unconscious. If course, because of the path they took there is still one miniboss left that they have to go back and get before it's all done. We'll do that next week, and then Thanksgiving week we're going to play HeroQuest, so that will be good. Just need to read the rules (it's been a long time since any of us have played, and one or two have never played) and decide which of the 6 quest books I will be using.

Dratted wallet! Always wanting me to earn money to pay bills and all that other jazz. Oh well. At least the overtime that I am about to work is easy. Now shall I listen to music, a podcast, or an audio book?
Oh, and good morning everyone!!!
edit - AND I have plenty of sweet tea so a sugar high will help out with work.

The kids saw it and said it was "extraordinarily ordinary". They wanted to cut it some slack because they've somehow been convinced that it's the "grandfather of all sci-fi", but they'd seen it all before, it was slow, and not a heck of a lot happened.
And apparently it's only 1/3 of the book -- Impus Minor called it "Hobbit syndrome": Taking a small amount of material and stretching it into a 3-hour film just to try to make more money off of it.
All in all, I have no plans to see it.

Actually, the original Dune is a real doorstopper, so they had to compress a lot of the content to fit half the book it into a single movie.
They could fit more context if they cut some other scenes down, though. For me it felt like people who did not read the book would miss a lot of context.
