Townfolk: "Adventurers! Please help us. Our town's paladin has fallen!"
PCs: "Well, heretics must be destroyed. Let's do this!"
Townfolk: "What heretic? He fell down the well and we don't have a rope long enough to reach him."

And his pants fell off, too!

Thus morning during a geography lesson, I was explaining why the wombat's poop is cube-shaped and showed a photograph.
One of my Kindergartners said, "Wow! That looks like a square poop doughnut!"

After the laughter died down, I told him that "Square Poop Doughnut" was going to be the name of my indie punk band.

And we've reached the level of "stupid political games" with our contractors.

We finished painting and the paint's had a few days to dry, so we're supposed to text General Contractor to have him caulk the edges of the tile and haul away he last of the garbage. But we want to show all the shortcomings to Head Contractor so that he can order General Contractor to fix anything that needs fixing.

So we're sitting on our hands not texting General Contractor until Head Contractor comes, which may be a while.

And as I said, considering how much we owe him it's pretty darned surprising.

Hello, everyone.

We're on The List for our health care provider but I expect it will be at least a month before we qualify.

Yeah my brother would quality as high risk too if he'd just see his frigging doctor. I swear, if I could edit my family's DNA, I'd take out the chunk of it in either Mom or Dad that causes stubbornness, 'cause all three of us kids got a double dose of it.

California friends! Kaiser CA is taking appointments for the Covid vaccine for folks with a BMI of 25+, from ANYONE, not just Kaiser members. (BMI is a trash concept in almost literally every way, but in this particular case, it may serve one of its literal only uses.) You have to make an account, but again, you don't have to have Kaiser as your insurer. With availability opening up to 50+ April 1st, and 16+ April 15th, the more folks who qualify now that get vaccinated the less rush there will be later. <3 Go forth and get your shots, y'all!

Yesterday was National Achievers Day, so hopefully you got some shit done.

It was also National Cocktail Day, so at least it balanced out.

Achieving is overrated. And I'm drinking wine instead of a cocktail. Some achiever I am.

This is a nice bottle of wine. A work contact sent me some bottles of Bordeaux. It's quality stuff, and I keep trying to evaluate it... and it is just kind of forgettable. Good, but not memorable. I kind of thought it would make a bigger impression.

Yeah, I took it easy today. I only delivered and stacked down two pallets of cinder blocks, a pallet of marble blocks and built half a wall.

You could put on a shawl-collared tuxedo jacket, pomade your hair, and make a champagne cocktail.

Oh. It's in Fredericksburg.

The quintessential quaint old Hill Country town for antiquing with beer.

They like to keep the tourist money flowing.

Well, occasionally they are impressive by the sheer audacity of the events.

In the sense of "oh, wow, I can't believe someone thought of doing that?!"

I personally hate them, but I'm old and grew up learning to manage skids on black ice in a clutch car...

People like to dismiss the concept of Karma because horrible people do appalling things all the time, and they never seem to face their comeuppance. Yet that focus on negativity misses the entire other half of the argument: Good Karma. (And to be clear, this isn't so much in the "spiritual" sense as in the "community spirit" sense.)

Yesterday I had to go to the emergency room because the rib Impus Minor cracked (and that I'd re-injured on Saturday) became painful enough to cause me to start blacking out.
- Impus Major dropped everything he was doing to drive me to the ER.
- While I was there, Impus Minor sneaked onto my Google account to try to find my chore list so he could take care of all my chores for me.
- My junior co-worker volunteered to my manager to take over all my outstanding work while I was out.
- I was pleasant and friendly with the ER staff, and they vowed to get me out of there "as soon as possible". It was the most refreshing visit to the ER I've ever experienced: I was in and out in 2 hours flat, complete with chest x-rays, and every single person with whom I interacted was just a fantastic person. I think a couple of them skipped breaks just to make sure I got out, and the nurse who discharged me wanted to make absolutely sure I got home safely. It was endearing.

In short, when I needed help, my family, my co-workers, and even complete strangers jumped up and went above and beyond the call of duty to give me a hand.

And that's been my experience throughout my life: Treat people decently, thank them, be kind to them, and when you finally reach that point that you need help, they'll be there for you.

In spite of it being a trip to the ER, it was a very pleasant day.

EDIT: And yes, LM, this was at frigging Alta Bates, so I know a Higher Power was involved in making them professional, friendly, and efficient.

I'm just glad you're alright. Yes I want to abscond with your wife and your Scrooge McDuck-esque fortune, possibly by ostentatious yacht while sipping champagne and laughing in a supervillainous way, but my god that rib sounds awful and could have been a lot worse. I'm glad you got the treatment you not only needed, but very much deserved.

Thanks! Much to my surprise, there's no structural damage in there (x-rays came back negative) so it's all soft tissue damage. Which is quite painful, but will heal fairly quickly as long as I behave myself (hard, but do-able). And good to know that at 53 I can still take a full body blow to the chest and not lose any bones...

I keep hoping to wake up one morning and find out from the news that Georgia and Alabama pulled a Bugs Bunny and sawed Florida off the continent, but so far no luck.

How many 80 pound blocks of marble did I have to haul up a muddy hill to cut or use the hammer chisel to give them a rough face?

Too many.

On the plus side, I can definitely say that the "non slip" work shoes I got from Walmart did in fact prevent a tremendous amount of slipping. I definitely recommend them if you're working outside.

The last time I tried being diplomatic and negotiated with the dickheads plaguing The Wayward, and then I agreed to give them half of the treasure and then they decided they wanted it all and I had to kill them anyway.

This time I just went in full rampage and murdered them all without any negotiation and tagged their wall.

Someone was nice enough to leave me plans for a foosball table, so now my shitty little shack has a foosball table.

In addition to my throne.

Also, I found the shelter registration robot so now I have a Fallout Shelter, but because my time playing video games is limited I completely skipped the tutorial so I have no idea whatsoever on how to decorate or furnish it, so it's just a big empty room.

About to go home. Have a good weekend, everyone.

I've been doing that in Fallout 4, it's been a ton of fun.

Truth be told I'm just waiting for the new PlayStation to ship (it's only going to be another week and a half at the most).

The monotony of the missions in Fallout 4 is draining, and the graphics in earlier Fallout games hasn't aged (plus Fallout New Vegas is so buggy on Playstation Now it's unplayable (you can't even rename your character) so I'm trying out 76 again.
