I was under impression that Freehold's question was a sort of "what do YOU know about that character".

Using Solomon Kane as the basis for a paladin character would be interesting (to my mind, that's what he is - grimdark paladin)

So, I could go into a long political tirade here (why no, that's not a ton of eraser marks on my monitor. Why do you ask?), but instead I'll just say PG&E certainly did right by me the moment I started sounding like a lawyer:
(1) They immediately sent a tech out to resolve the issue
(2) They emailed me and notified me that the issue was resolved
(3) They phoned me to tell me that they'd generated a new statement for me and would be giving me a significant credit for my "inconvenience".

So yes. PG&E is paying me because they failed to bill me and I got uppity.

We live in a strange, strange world.

I always got an Inquisitor vibe off him...although since the character was tortured by the Spanish Inquisition, that does seem kind of ironic.

I have the complete Savage Tales of Solomon Kane by Robert E. Howard. What sort of quotes were you looking for? Or were you referring to the 2009 movie which I didn't see and couldn't help you with.

NobodysHome does not mince words.

"Just reviewed that doc. They're just trying to resurrect my old 2016 course and they don't understand that the entire portal has been rewritten since then. It's like dealing with people from the Stone Age. You tell them things and they just don't understand. I swear, if they haven't seen the portal in 2 years they shouldn't be designing training for it. But maybe that's just me..."

OK. Holy carp.

I was wondering what kind of "discount" PG&E gave me. $10? $20?

No, it looks like we haven't been paying our full gas bill since October, resulting in an $876 bill due this month. Looking at our payment history, they just knocked it down to our "normal" $176 payment.

So a $700 credit for being uppity.

That's just... staggering.

I suspect it's because they're fearful of bankrupting people with such mistakes -- getting me back on a regular payment schedule instead of massively gouging me is probably more profitable for them than running credit checks to find out who can afford such a surprise. How many people in these times who haven't paid for their gas in 3 months can suddenly shell out $700 extra? Better to write off the loss and get the person back on schedule.

Good business practice, better for people, and better for me.

So I'll say ONE nice thing about PG&E today!

Hell of a game tonight. GM left his books at work, so I ran another one-shot. In the big fight, I knocked out both Brawlers, almost knocked out all 3 other PCs, and generally had them feeling like it was hopeless. Then they rallied back, got some good rolls, and won! And no, I didn't fudge any rolls or anything. I don't play that way.

And then I gave them the loot, and they were so happy. Of course, the vastly overpowered stuff I have them meana I have to challenge them more in future games. I'm not sure they thought of that yet.

The best part was when the party started making reflex saves to catch the potions as the cat knocked them off. Then tried to restrain the cat to no avail. (his escape artist checks are ridiculous.)

My one and only complaint about the Abomination Vaults adventure path is it's labelled as a mega dungeon but the party only gets to 11th level exploring it and at most it has 12 dungeon levels.

Maybe I was spoiled with Undermountain but it seems a mega dungeon should be way bigger.

At any rate, it's a great adventure path so far and I highly recommend it, especially since it's only 3 parts with the ruby phoenix adventure path immediately following (also only 3 books, going from 11th-20th level).

The Savage Tales, not the movie.

Fictional biographical info follows: Kane was raised as a puritan in England, but in his heart he was an adventurer. This conflict resulted in him being unable to stay still and continually wandered looking for people in need of help, his excuse for his adventuring lifestyle. He was a skilled swordsman and decent shot, but notably not the best. Rugged, but not handsome. Didn't use magic personally, but didn't object to others using it or to accepting magic items (like the Staff of Solomon) so long as they were not tied to the Devil.

What sets Kane apart is his will and his faith. Both were massive, making him practically fearless. He was on the beach with Sir Francis Drake when Drake used a drumhead trial to execute Sir Thomas Doughty in 1578 and was one of the few who objected to the injustice of the proceedings despite Drake's fervor and absolute power. He faced demons and monsters secure in his belief of his acceptance into Heaven.

He also had a dogged determination: once he set himself on a goal, he would never stop until he achieved it or perished. This is how he often bested opponents stronger or more skilled than himself: when others would give up, he pressed on.

Solomon Kane on himself: "Naught but a wanderer, a landless man, but a friend to all in need."

A math problem I can’t figure.

It’s a three dimensional puzzle and I just don’t have the head space.

I’m working out the dimensions of a sailing ship made of flat planes (yes, I know, I can’t even begin to hope to do the curved ones), but an stymied when you get to the front angles. Seems like it should be obvious, but just... isn’t.

Base is (and thus sides are) 130 ft long, deck is 205 ft long, 45 ft. from deck to base, and figuring out the intersection point of the triangles created by the two narrowing elements just baffles the daylights out of me in what seems like it should be easy-to-grasp triangles. I’m probably overlooking something obvious, but at this point outside of building a physical model, I’m stumped.

Weird.

Speaking of "simple repairs you can do yourself at home"...

F the producers of taps, who state "use simple wrench, not an adjustable one" in their instructions and then having the nuts being an off-size for a simple wrench...

In fact, I checked that exact wrench on the tap that was on the display and it fitted exactly. So I picked two taps of the same type and went home. The wrench also worked perfectly fine to unscrew nuts on the old tap. It's only the nuts on the new tap - otherwise identical to the old one - that are silghtly thicker and not fitting. Apparently, the producer changed the nut thickness between the runs...

Now I am going to check if I have adjustable wrench somewhere in the cellar (or rather if I have one somewhere where I can find it in the cellar because there are surely multiple ones buried somewhere in the father's trash).

Weird.

I can't picture what you're describing, but it sounds like you need the Law of Cosines, an extension of the Pythagorean Theorem:

For ANY triangle with sides A, B, C, and corresponding angles a, b, c:
C^2 = A^2 + B^2 - 2AB cos c

Thus, if you have the lengths of the three sides, you can calculate the angle.

It'd be happier if I had hot water for a bath...

Apparently there is no 29 mm simple wrench and 30 mm (which I found in basement) is too large for those nuts.

EDIT: There is 25×28 that I bought yesterday. There is 30×32 that I found in the basement. I am even looking on sets of wrenches and there is no 26 nor 29 (26×29 would fit the size progression)...

Oh, I know THAT pain. I have an old, reliable wrench set with both Imperial and metric measures... except for reasons I cannot comprehend it's missing a 14mm wrench.

So of course, everything I run into that I need to assemble/disassemble uses 14mm nuts.
