I wish. Around here it's treated more like a flag, and you get funny (if not outright hostile) looks if you don't wave it hard enough.

I'm not in the best of places right now when it comes to religion, for a host of reasons, most of which have to do with politics.

I wave it with pride pretty much regardless of what I do. It's a... thing, I guess!

(Just in case you guys didn't know!)

But it makes sense that some people just want to be more private. Actually, WotR has a decent example of this in one of the NPCs in the very first entry.

Sometimes I like looking back on the "on this day in your FB history, you posted..." page just so I can say, "Thank the good lord I will never do THAT again!"

For instance, nine years ago, WW and I decided to drive cross-country in our old van to visit our nephews in Vermont for Christmas, and even though it was below-freezing temperatures all the way, to camp with our dog at highway rest stops all the way across the plains. So nine years ago today was "Why are we still not out of Nebraska?!?" and the joys of discovering what happens to underwire when it's twelve degrees outside.

Yup. Neeeeeever again.

But, the next day, I saw a mountain lion in a field eating another animal. On the side of I-80. Which was pretty amazing.
And then the day after that, we got to New York, and while WW was at an Aikido thing, I walked across Central Park in the snow and went to the Met Museum, which I love.
So it wasn't all bad.

why didn't you tell me you were coming 9 years ago?!?

Yeah, I'm not in danger of doing anything rash or harmful to myself or others. (I have been inclined more toward violent video gaming lately as a steam-off method, admittedly. But "more violent" in this context just means hack and slashy Zelda and running dungeons in NWN in place of Pokemon or FF.)

It's just the general frustration of politics - especially politics and politicians I disagree with and dislike - being entwined with religion in a way that's always happened to some degree or another. It's extremely open that most people here consider their rightwing politics as part and parcel of their religion, and the frequent "theocracy-esque" commentary is not uncommon nor is it subtle.

So the stupid [lengthy string of very bad words redacted] woman at the management company that leases us our house, after all the crap we went through earlier this month arguing with her over the validity of our claim for a reduction in rent for the days we had to stay in a hotel while the electrical work was done last month...

NEVER SENT IN THE PAPERWORK TO THE FINANCIAL OFFICE THAT SHE WAS (A) APPROVING OUR CLAIM, or (B) WAIVING THE LATE FEES AND PERMITTING A LATE PAYMENT (BECAUSE SHE JACKED US AROUND FOR DAYS WHILE WE WAITED TO PAY).
and, fabulously, the employees in the part of the financial office where we *pay*, and the part of the financial office where things go to collections/legal, DON'T SHARE INFORMATION unless she makes it so.
So she told the employee to whom we make our payment (yes, you have to make every rent payment, every month, over the phone), BUT SHE LET COLLECTIONS/LEGAL THINK WE WEREN'T PAYING.
So I got a Notice to Vacate in the mail today.

And I called up this evening, hopping mad, politely explained to the nice lady on the other end that, while I was hopping mad and had a grievance, I understood that she was not to blame, so I would do my very best to modulate my tone of voice with her, and she was very helpful and told me to disregard the notice. But told me that, eventually, she would need something in writing from the [lengthy string of very bad words redacted] person.

It's a combination of a lot of factors. What do you do when something that brought you comfort your entire life fails to live up to the expectations it instilled in you? How do you recover a shattered trust?

You do what you need to do, and do the right thing. Wicked people are wicked, but folks deeply ingrain and tie everything they hold passionate to other things they hold passionate, even when it's inappropriate to do so. Well, I don't envy LM and Scint their final weeks, but it's also my final week of the year, and the *only* significant thing on my plate is wrapping up the recordings for the ultra-fussy PM. And handing them off to the guy who thinks I swear, yell, and belch while recording.

But I spent 2 days of my 3-day weekend in medical prep/recovery (as I mentioned, the prep for a colonoscopy is far, far, FAR worse than the recovery), but as I am the *only* member of the household who even cleans up after himself, much less cleans up after other people, there's a mountain of housework to catch up on.

The whole, "You get no allowance unless you earn it by doing chores" has definitely helped immensely. Impus Major cleans his room every day and is eager to look for low-hanging fruit like taking out the garbage or cleaning the litterbox (for which I bless him every time).
Impus Minor still likes to leave at least half of the household dishes in his room at any time; I think he finds comfort in them. But not being able to eat off a plate because there are 15 plates lying around in his room in various states of filthiness is... irritating.

I'll only note that we get "more" Voltron, if you haven't seen it.

Anyway, having seen it three times, I'm better now. Come to terms with it.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaalso, unrelated, you know, it occurs to me: Star Trek: Enterprise was not super-well received, but... it reminds me a lot of the original series. A lot.

I mean, obviously, it's not the same thing.

But consider this: in little more than one season I've run across two episodes that felt so much like the original series, I looked up the second one just to see - turns out, at least the second one was based on concepts originally pitched as part of the OS, prior to being made.

Now, again, the actual episode is different - it uses alien settlers instead of human settlers, and Klingons instead of "viking like aliens"... but it's still pretty similar.

Anyway, my point is that Enterprise isn't the greatest ST series, but it's not nearly as bad as people have made it out to be (at least to me).
