So Christmas...
Up here north is mostly a Christmas eve thing, with the usual feasting and family time.
So we've had the various part of the family (yes, the good the bad and the ugly parts) come by to exchange gifts, before they go to their various feast locations for the eve's feasting (a typical feast consists of a couple of generations, is grandparents + parents + unmarried children).
This year my parents are hosting the grandparents, which is fine, as they are still pretty spry for being in their late 80's/early 90's.
And yes, I'm usually there too, while my brother has chosen to be here too this year (while his gf is at her parents - last year they were both at her parents).
The main course this year is stuffed Goose and Turkey, potatoes, sugar-glazed potatoes, this stewed red cabbage dish and a rich/slightly sweetish red-wine sauce.

Hey, Taig. I know the contest is over, but pop in and say hi every once in a while.
Hee hee. Now that the contest is over, I have a little more time to jump in on other places.
I also have a little anxiety when I am away for a while, and the posts pile up, so I sometimes shy away. Yes, I have social anxiety over forum posts...

I have been mostly missing from the boards lately for many reasons, 90% of them related to being busy, but I didn't want to let today pass without dropping by to wish you all Merry Christmas.
I hope you are doing all well!
Merry Christmas! And thank you for teaching me the phrase: "I don't believe in witches, but there are witches." I've been using it a lot this year. :)

Epoch-making happenings.
* Ma Longears threw doggo's new fetchy-toy about 30ft up into a tree yesterday, so this morning, Pops Longears and I had to go and fetch it down using an immense pole, which was quite the task.
* Tiny nephew has been watching 'The Blue Planet', which means that everyone who comes within earshot will be able to take 20 on subsequent Knowledge (creatures of the deep) checks after only a couple of minutes in his company.
* It's pigeon pie for tea!

Feeling a little better today, but sincerely regretting eating dinner. I've got some kind of stomach bug. Yesterday I threw up and had a high fever. Today I still feel like crap, but the fever is gone and I can eat. I just should have kept to blander food.
And of course I'm freaking out because I am running behind on Christmas preparations, which wasn't helped by being too sick to get up most of today. The annual tug of war between my ambitions and my capabilities....
Oooooof. I hope this is healed by meow, and if it hasn't, then soooooon, 'cause that's aweful.

Anything narrated by David Attenborough automatically gives ranks in Knowledge (nature) imo

So last night after the kids went to bed, I baked a gingerbread TARDIS, Dalek, and Fourth Doctor.
This morning at breakfast, the conversation went like this...
Whingey Wizzard's Mother: "That's so interesting... are those... people?"
Hermione, exasperated: "No, Grandma, THAT'S a Dalek."
Teensy Valeros: "And THAT'S a Timelord."
Grandma: "...oh..."

I gmed pfs yesterday with people from Arizona. One local player was santa claus as a dwarf eldritch knight. Had a table full of dwarves a gnome , a wayang and a half-orc. The Wayang was min maxed like crazy rode a rabbit familiar and shot so many arrows that totally destroyed everything. I had fun in spite of that. Because santa had readywimple a fairy dragon with a rod of wonder.
Well confusion with this party is quite fun. I got the fairy dragon with the rod of wonder confused. and the gnome moved closest to it and made the gnome diminuative confusing the death magus archer on the rabbit for 8 rounds was fun but druid used summon spells to attack and draw the fire away. I wanted the wayang archer to kill its own rabbit after all enemies were defeated.

I ended up cooking the pigeon pie, which also involved onion, garlic, baby parsnips, a carrot, some port and a teaspoonful of yeast extract (Marmite, though probably only Taliesen and DSX will recognise the name). It was quite nice.
It's Christmas day now - hope everyone has a goodun, whether or not it's celebrated where you are :)

Nobody's Home - differences between -A and -T is this:
Assertive (-A) individuals are self-assured, even-tempered and resistant to stress. They refuse to worry too much and do not push themselves too hard when it comes to achieving goals. Similarly, they are unlikely to spend much time thinking about their past actions or choices – according to Assertive types, what’s done is done and there is little point in analyzing it. Not surprisingly, people with this trait report more satisfaction with their lives and they also feel more confident in their abilities to handle challenging and unexpected situations.
In contrast, individuals with Turbulent (-T) identity are self-conscious and sensitive to stress. They experience a wide range of emotions and tend to be success-driven, perfectionistic and eager to improve. They are also more willing to change jobs if they feel stuck in their current one and to spend time thinking about the direction in which their life is going.
However, while the Assertive variant may seem more positive on the surface, that is not always the case – for instance, Turbulent individuals perform better in certain roles as they push themselves to achieve superior results, while Assertive ones do not care about the outcome that much. Always feeling the need to do more, to have more, and to be more, Turbulent types often forget how exhausting that can be to both themselves and the people around them – but it is entirely possible that this desire to always push themselves just a little further helps many Turbulent types to achieve what they seek to achieve.
Mine is -T.
For your own profile - you'd want to read this
Was expecting an E out of you NH - I think TL has an E somewhere too, and probably some Fs and Ps...
I'm actually an "I" - or was last time I took the test (which, as VagEr-y pointed out, is generally considered unreliable). :)
(I was going to be that guy, but TVE beat me to it.)
EDIT: to fix a thing

I still think twilight sparkle is ISTJ - I like twilight sparkle! She has magic! And I don't know what's the name of that red pony.
And anyway Severus Snape shouldn't be ISTJ...I dunno what he'd be. And I don't have anything in common with Severus! I wouldn't be keeping so many secrets!
You may not keep secrets, but if you're "I" Severis is much more so - that dude doesn't social well, all.
Also: awesome!
EDIT: Woops!

Just a Mort wrote:For your own profile - you'd want to read thisLOL. That SOOOOOO doesn't describe me at all that it's silly.
I don't particularly care what my friends are up to. If they want to do something, they'll ping me. I have friends from high school I haven't seen in 10 years, and I have no idea how they're doing. But I still consider them 'good' friends.
I was the single-most unpopular person in my entire high school.
I'm not particularly social. As I mentioned in my response to lisamarlene, I'm just as happy sitting alone in a corner as I am talking with people.
On the other hand, this is me to a 'T':
Mort's Linky wrote:ESFJs love to be of service, enjoying any role that allows them to participate in a meaningful way, so long as they know that they are valued and appreciated. This is especially apparent at home, and ESFJs make loyal and devoted partners and parents. ESFJ personalities respect hierarchy, and do their best to position themselves with some authority, at home and at work, which allows them to keep things clear, stable and organized for everyone. So there's something in there that's accurate. Kind of like horoscopes.
Go figure.
EDIT: And OMG, "Being pretty conflict-averse". Yep. That's me. And another "dead hit on the head of the nail":
One more wrote:Coming to terms with their sensitivity is ESFJs’ biggest challenge – people are going to disagree and they’re going to criticize, and while it hurts, it’s just a part of life. The best thing for ESFJs to do is to do what they do best: be a role model, take care of what they have the power to take care of, and enjoy that so many people do appreciate the efforts they make.EDIT 2: But not nudity-averse.
I'll say it's a bit more accurate than horoscopes for most - one key reason it's problematic is that it relies on "self-scoring" which can heavily skew results. That said, if you have differing connotations (or even denotations) for words, you're going to get very different results.
Tacticslion |
Well, the funniest part is that so many of these things (horoscopes, palm readers, Meyers-Briggs tests) just get a quick light read of people, then present results in broad generalities. Humans have a natural tendency to cherry-pick what they see as accurate ("You are conflict-averse") and ignore the stuff that is utterly wrong ("You love being popular, like a high school quarterback or cheerleader"), and then say, "Wow! That described me SO accurately!"
I was relatively unimpressed. About a 50%, "That is dead-on ME!", and 50%, "No, that doesn't describe me at all!"
After asking, what, 30 questions? It should have been better.
Hah! Awesome!

I can't imagine peacocks taste great, though I believe that roast peacock was a dish in ye olden dayes. Probably just a prestige thing - 'I am so reech, I can eat peacocks, regardless of whether or not I enjoy it' - like that burger covered in gold leaf you can buy.
They're also very unpleasant beasts, but so are geese, and goose is tasty.
EDIT: As am I, plucked and oven-ready.
In Miami, they're common enough be considered annoying pests. As an example, a few months back, a guy we know had to chase a bunch of 'em off a soccer field because they just wandered in and forced the game to a standstill. (School, not professional.)
She was very confused when I explains that they were considered status symbols of the wealthy elite.
