A "mermaid rail" sounds like a weapon we need for our ship in the Skull & Shackles campaign!
(And FWIW, GothBard dropped fleet combat entirely and we're just going through the post-fleet-battle onboard melees and it's going quite well. Yet another AP where dropping the new rule system vastly improves it...)

But... isn't Denmark just that unincorporated part of Europe that speaks everyone else's language fluently and makes Legos?!
(Sorry! In truth, Denmark was actually super-awesome, but that was a joke I'd heard several times when passing through. Hey, how's the Danish language (Dansk, I think?) doing? I'd heard it was in danger of going extinct? Is it on the rebound?)
Huh...
That's news to me. Well, I mean that its not really growing either. We are small population, small country, not a particular powerful economic power and its a annoyingly difficult language (even for native speakers!), which severely limits the general usefulness of the language. That said, I don't see it dying on us yet. Its simply too important for the cultural and national self-understanding, as with so many others nations, who's modern identity was build on the back of European continental nationalism in the 19th century.

Ah, is there anything quite so pleasant as working your butt off for the first 3 days of the week so that you're all wrapped up by 2:00 pm on the Thursday before a 3-day weekend?
It's even warm enough that I have the whole house open, so a nice breeze is blowing through. (Somewhere in the 60's).
Life is good.

In other NobodysHome news, people are really baffled by the way I work with electronics. I work for a global megacorporation and NobodysWife is a game designer in San Francisco, so we're finally making a dual salary and can actually replace things as they break.
Yet a few months ago Impus Minor found a huge (27") monitor by the side of the road. We took it inside, tested it, and I put it in storage. Last night, Impus Major was working on an English report and really needed two monitors, so I dug it out, found some cables and adapters, and hooked it up for him. Of course, the calico knocked it off the desk, but:
(a) We didn't care, since it had been free
(b) Miraculously, it didn't break.
So now Impus Major has dual monitors. And I'll freely admit, I have a nice sturdy dual monitor stand that Global Megacorporation purchased for me, so I ordered a second one from Amazon for him. So technically his second monitor cost us $70.
My laser printer is another joyful story. I think it's 12 or more years old (I see reviews of that model going back to 2005, but I think I got it back in my contracting days in 2003). The paper feeder no longer works and Hi couldn't fix it, so for the last year or so I've been lovingly hand-feeding single sheets into it. The print drum's gotten corrupt in some way so about 1/4 of the pages come out with massive black areas. The power switch doesn't work; you have to turn it on and off again for a good 5 minutes before it'll finally start up.
But I love the old warhorse, and hate thinking about getting rid of it. Unfortunately, I really kind of *have* to, since it's the printer I use for all my game prep, so I ordered a brand new multi-function printer with almost the exact same form factor so I can put it in the same place.
But all in all, cars and electronics last 15-20 years at my house, as opposed to the 3-5 years in more "typical" households. Yet people always give me their 3-5-year-old stuff, figuring it's better than what I've got. And I keep my old junk and pass on the newer stuff.
I'm old and crotchety, and comfy in my midden.

Again that's news to me, but if it's true, it's an outrage!I mean the Carl's stout wasn't the best, but it was perfectly good beer!
I know you can still get the porter some places, its an imperial stout on a slightly low-ish 8.2%, but its serviceable.
If porters you thing, I would recommend the "Limfjords Porter" from Thisted bryghus. Again a bit on the light side with its 7.9%, but its full of a heavy roasted liquorice flavour. It should also be fairly easy to get your hands on...

Well, my news was from back in the 90s, so it's been quite a while. At the time, I'd heard they were offering free scholarships for majors in Dansk to make it more relevant (since so much of the populous was learning other languages, many were abandoning Dansk - and I have to say, I've never heard anyone speak so many languages so flawlessly with so little accent as in Copenhagen in... Burger King. And literally everywhere else in Denmark; it was super-impressive).
But I'm glad it's got a solid following. :)

After a little more research, I suspect it's contact lens irritation. Light sensitivity can be brought about by that, and I am wearing contacts and my eyes are slightly dry/irritated, so that's a possible and reasonable thing.
Adding that to the long list of reasons I have to stick with glasses....

Speaking of unworkable AP subsystems, it turns out that Jade Regent's whole "teamwork" thing is mathematically impossible.
I know it's a common cry, but doesn't someone playtest/double-check these things before publication? "Oh, here's a table with point totals. Let's count up the points and make sure they make sense."
Took me 15 minutes to learn that the system just won't work.

Hey, FaWtL: anyone know of a peychopomp who's fire-themed? Or earth-themed?
(Or lava-themed...)
The yamaraj is a big ol' dragon thing, you could make an excuse for it being associated with either of those.
Alternatively, the one that looks like a skeleton in Dia De Los Muertos garb (can't remember the name right now) might work, as you could tie bones and burial to an earth theme.

I had contacts, but I had to stop wearing them. Turns out I don't produce enough tears. I don't have any irritation from it normally when I'm wearing glasses. But putting something right on my eyeball turned out to be a huge problem and I got really tired of having to put eyedrops in my eyes every twenty minutes. Glasses are only frustrating when I'm trying to swim. The rest of the time it's not even a big deal. So I can totally understand not wanting to mess with the whole putting something in your eyes every day.

I'm like the opposite of NH when it comes to electronics. We have a running joke that I have some kind of electronics killing aura because things just do not last long around me, and often stop working in weird ways. :P
So we have new stuff because old stuff breaks. At one point we had a friend of ours who works in IT come over and try to figure out some of the things that were malfunctioning, and the increasing frustration and bafflement as he realized that it should be working but still wasn't was very vindicating. Like, dude, I know, I already tried that! I don't know why it's all borked up!
So that's why we can't have nice things....

Cross-posted from JJ's thread, 'cause it's a fun question!
Yeah, I do this.
It's fuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnn.
So, every FaWtL, barring that this doesn't make any actual sense (we'll just use "hand-wavium" to make a square peg/round hole fit): if you, in real life, could have the nearest equivalent of 20 levels in a class, but had to have an archetype from a completely different class (again, ignoring specifics; presuppose you get the benefits and rrrroooouuuugggghhhhllllyyyyy equivalent losses) which class and which archetype (from what other class) would you choose?
Similarly, if you gained the equivalent of 20 levels, but ten had to be in a Prestige Class, which class and prestige class?
As a frame of reference, any d20 system more-or-less compatible with PF (including SF, though that brings a whole can of worms itself, the various 3.X, and anything else you think is relevant) is available.
Here is a list of those I'm talking to (as you've all posted over the last ten pages):
01) aatea
02) CH
03) Crookshanks
04) CY
05) doctor_wu
06) Drejk

23) TOZ
24) TS
25) Vanykrye
26) Vidmaster
27) Wei Ji
... and since I know for a fact that a certain Chinese kitty sometimes hangs out over hear (but rarely posts anything!! >:I): Mort. Just... Just a Mort.
If your name is not on the list, what can I say? You haven't posted in the last ten pages (or favorite'd anything from them that I've seen)!
... also: sorry!
(But please participate anyway!)
Is this a pointless random question? YES!
Am I excited to see what my friends reply with? YES!
Why? I'unno!
Me: Probably a psionic erudite (presupposing access to more than just "base" powers - psion (telepath) otherwise) with... hmm... maybe the distorter archetype from the cryptic, or the pacifism archetype of the vitalist, or from the tactician, the amplifier, battle medic, commander, metanexus, or unifier. The cerebremancer, erudite, metamind, metamorph, psychic fist, or (if all participants are functionally willing*) thrallherd.
So, making a hard decision, I'll go with psionic erudite with the unifier tactician archetype. And erudite with the cerebremancer prestige (probably wizard without needing a spellbook).
* I'm aware that it might seem to be an apparent contradiction, but there is the possibility that it's a willing decision made, not a forced state; I'm not interested in unwilling allies, but a coherent and strong allies.

I have no problem with glasses in theory; in practice, no matter what pair, they've always gotten in the way when I try and do anything physical, I get dizzier/headaches more easily, and my nose breaks out all the time (from sweat). All that's super-fair, though!

Off the top of my head, I'd say a Wilder (psionics) with an archetype that gives me the Dark Knowledge ability from the Archivist (3.5 Heroes of Horror) in exchange for something.
For a prestige class, I'd probably go with the one that lets you theurge between a psionic class and an invocation user, with Wilder/Dragonfire Adept as my base.
Also my race would be Maenad because having gemstudded skin and literal sonic-blast temper is cool.

Hmm. This is a hard choice for me because anyone who knows me knows that I'm like kind of obsessed with psionics. It's my favorite classes in the game. But for me personally? I have to admit that witch is probably a better fit with my interests and personality.
And archetypes? Uh.....*quickly goes to look up some of those cause I honestly don't use them much*......Okay so I'm thinking the cleric's crashing wave archetype. Cause then I can basically be a water bender.....I may be a wee bit obsessed with A:tLA.

No spoilers! I just started watching that series. Yes I know it's old. I don't care.
No spoilers. Just... wow.
The movie (akin to an extended episode 1) is boring.
Season 1 is okay. Two is decent.
Seasons 3-5 are incredible.
It accomplishes everything the sequels failed to do in terms of establishing compelling motivations, a believable set of motivations, and making taxation, trade agreements, politics, courtroom stuff, and tediously long battles both fascinating and compelling as well as making the vents in the films seem reasonable.
It's... powerful.
Just... be ready to have fanon and be mad.
