I *just* threw out my "Class of '85 10-year-reunion" shirts, so those were almost exactly 20.

If my assumptions are correct, and you're referring to high school, I graduated a decade after your 10-year reunion.

According to my research, the French national railroad owns a significant portion of Amtrak's shares. Furthermore, there is a privatised French public transit company that owns significant chunks of American public transportation, operating in such places as San Diego, Los Angeles, Napa, Sacramento, Redding, Victorville, Phoenix, Atlanta, Charleston, Miami, New Orleans, Denver, Austin, Boston, Las Vegas, Long Island, Greensboro, and Baltimore.

Just what the Devil are the French trying to do?

Christmas decorations already out at work, the fact that they're currently in the same aisle with the summer toys and clearance pool floats is hilarious tho.

Mine oldest T-shirts from early nineties gave up their life last year and this. Now, the oldest things I have will probably be jeans jacket (which might be nearly or even over twenty) and a sweater or two.

EDIT: I mean things that I actually wear. I am pretty sure my closet contains older clothing...

Oh wait, things that I actually WEAR? :(

The reason they are still around is I don't wear them. The are memories of a large (fairly important) section of my life. I never wore them more than once or twice because i didn't want to destroy them.

Of course, I ordered most of them as medium years ago, I'm not sure I actually can wear them now anyway,... ;P

Yeah, I should probably let my wife make a comforter out of them. At least then they'd see use. :/

you didn't know that? The french own a surprising amount of amtrak. There was a to-do a few years ago over who owned the mta, I don't remember the details.

The French have a strategic plan that includes paralyzing transportation in the US by freezing the sections of railroad they own.

Spoiler:

Typical French strategic planning.

Spoiler:

Actually, I love the French and am embarrassed by how United Statesians seem to have forgotten the key French military aid during the War of Independence.

Spoiler:

Interesting. When I show and re-hide the spoiler above, the spoiler tag disappears from before the spoiler box.

Spoiler:

In fact that happens to the latest spoiler that was shown/hidden. Anybody else seeing it?

For all you Europeans on this thread:

A man walks into a bar holding a very long straight stick. The barman asks, "are you a pole vaulter?" To which the man says, "no, I'm German, but how do you know my name?"

Captain Yesterday fun fact: because we hosted French exchange students every summer I learned how to swear in French before English :-)

How does it work on the X-Box 360? I have a copy of both for the X-Box and i might try them on the 360.

Currently running it on the original platform; I've heard it's got bad lag issues on the 360.

Currently rampaging thru the dungeon of Mitzi or whatever looking for the Staff of Magnus, frankly I'm more then a little worried its going to start complaining about mythic adventures as soon as I retrieve it.

I has an idea. Could New Old West not be done with Norse-Canadian Vikings instead of American cowboys? It doesn't really conflict with anything about my setting currently written, so I can just incorporate it into my Eberonnish Sixties world, and I like the idea of being critical about Viking stories the same way New Old West encourages being critical about Westerns. Vinlander Vikings could even have modified their role to fit their new needs, as their seaborne raiding techniques become more useful for crippling Native American communities than for gaining riches.

At first I thought it is the Badger saying "Woooo! All to the face!" and recalled the deadly summoned badger(s) of our D&D party summoner cleric...

I can confirm the lag issues when playing KOTOR on the 360. Doesn't stop me from playing it, though.

o.O

Your t-shirt is the same age as me.
Meanwhile, my clothing can barely make it through a full year. Partly cause I'm a klutz and I spill a lot and everything gets stained and partly because women's clothing is not often made to be durable.
My oldest item of clothing is of indeterminate age as it came from a garage sale many years ago, but I suspect that it might be older than I am. It has a very seventies look to it. Macrame sweaters aren't exactly common.

I love the tendency for humans with cats (including myself) to live with their cats' antics even if they are a hindrance

for example if the cat likes to get up in front of the tv screen and chase the colors, to continue watching the movie with the cat in front of it.

It's really weirding me out that the two main NPCs in Knights of the Old Republic have the same voice actors as Kaidan and Shepard from Mass Effect.

I realized that I can't actually say for sure that my mother loves me, and that I'm certainly not what she wanted. That... actually makes me feel a lot better, somehow. I can't even really articulate why, I just kind of get it now so far as our relationship goes. She doesn't even dislike me or hate me or anything like that, I'm just not part of the family in the same way my siblings are.

You don't raise a child with violence, neglect, and persecution and expect her to actually be able to function in interpersonal relationships. I believe my mother tried her best to love me, but I don't really know if she can. My siblings, yes, but they weren't mistakes. I was. The only reason my mother had me was because she thought another child would repair her failed marriage. She didn't want to have another child, but she thought it was necessary. It didn't work, because the problem was my father, and more responsibility was the last thing that was going to get him in line. She got left with the kid she didn't want in the first place, and then I came out with autism and ADHD and transgenderism. As emotionally broken as my mother is, she never had anyhing resembling the ability to deal with me. Being poor and struggling didn't help, either. Few things break families like poverty or mental illness can. When you have both? As much as you don't want to call a child a burden on the family, I was. There aren't really any two ways about it.

What my mother always needed was for me to be gone, and I get it. Growing up, I remember how family events tended to be my parents, my sister, and my brother. If I went, I stayed in the background. If my mother wants to talk, she talks to my sister. Not to me. Certainly doesn't tell me things. She had a serious stroke last year, and I didn't know for two weeks. I am not a priority. I never was a priority, and I'm never going to be a priority. Even with all the drama from grandma dying, she's been a lot better off mentally since we grew as far apart as we are now, and the more I think about it the more I realize that both of us really do seem to be better off without each other.

That reminds me of parts of the song "Pity the Child"

"When I was nine I learned survival
Taught myself not to care
I was my single good companion
Taking my comfort there"

"Knows that he'll never fit the system
Others expect him to
Pity the child who knew his parents
Saw their faults, saw their love die before his eyes
Pity the child that wise"

"Pity the child but not forever
Not if he stays that way
He can get all he ever wanted
If he's prepared to pay
Pity instead the careless mother
What she missed,
What she lost when she let me go
And I wonder does she know"

wow.

Yea, my family has some serious problems. Poverty, mental illness, drug abuse, alcoholism, paranoia, and anger management problems will do that.

Though I may have worded my post a bit poorly. This:

Quote:
You don't raise a child with violence, neglect, and persecution and expect her to actually be able to function in interpersonal relationships.

Applies to my grandmother raising my mother, not to my mother raising me. I just realized it sounds like I said my mother did that stuff to me, though, and that isn't what happened.
