Oh boy. Got a cheque from my bank after the account was closed... How, with a correctly printed name on the letter someone managed to erroneously fill the cheque writing my name in place of surname *and* make a spelling error?! Is it copying what you see so hard?!

*gah* more running to the bank...

The (small) company I work for closed one of the subsidiary companies with £5 left in the account, of course the bank forgot to do this then charged then £17 for 'being inactive for 12 months'. I'm a touch surprised they didn't add a charge on for being overdrawn.

Anyway, Thursday and time to worry about not having done enough prep!

Tis not a boat, my good man. Tis a platform containing much expensive equipment and potentially explosive hydrocarbons! WOOT!!!
Does it float on the water? I believe that makes it a boat. ;)

Only if it's supposed to move.

Greetings and salutations, FAWTLY Folk! Happy Thursday!!! Last night was a good night! I was able to watch two of my shows! And baby girl slept well. I did, however, have to punish the boy. He kept getting out of bed after his bedtime. But after that he went right to sleep.

Johnny Depp as Doctor Strange? I think I could see that.

My supervisor told me yesterday that he wanted me to see about gettin a laptop from the supply/equipment flunky for my upcoming platform visit. This would be the same flunky who never responded to the email about fire resistant clothing I sent two weeks ago.

Scarab Sages

Needless to say, I don't expect to be getting a laptop.

Why is it I can't focus with my eyes when I wake up in the morning?

Are you suggesting that it isn't normal for everyone?

Scarab Sages

Not that I want a laptop. Yeah, it might be useful, but it'd also be heavy. And, there are weight restrictions on our bags already...

I don't know. Takes almost five minutes for my vision to focus after I flick on the soft lights.

Color is irrelevant. We always had the vaguely gray-beige (henceforth referred to as greige) that seems to show up everywhere. Still lava.

The only criteria for the floor being lava is that you can't touch it and must navigate jumping from furniture to furniture.

The Floor is Lava as a generational gap

And you should occasionally make a live sacrifice to the fire god to keep the lava from erupting and destroying civilization.

Or was that just me?

I always translated that as making sure we didn't knock over the fish tank and unleash the wrath of Dad.

For me, wrath of dad was easy to avoid. Wrath of mom? Not so much.....

I don't think the company would allow me to start giving their property away. Which sucks, because I had a buyer lined up for the copy machine....

Did I mention that this shrew from upstairs tried to throw me under the bus in iur meeting with the clients yesterday? Needless to say, all the right people saw through her b!!~&%+$ excuses.

And, with that, I'm done for now. Got plenty to do. Take it easy, and have an awesome day.

I did some formatting of <redacted> today. Not enough time or strength to do more of it, though...

mom tried to get me to write a paper on Wisconsin that way. It completely killed my love for the state and almost killed my love for writing. The woman still has the wrong idea with respect to editing.

I'm off work today due to the job giving us a day to use for weather related reasons. We seem to be out of snow for January and I couldn't take Friday off, so today it is.

I need to format and edit some work that the third job sent to me myself.

It would open the door to more sub-positions for her. Maybe even a semi-permanent one.

hi everyone,

we started with black, than it became greenish and settled on yellow-beige- brownish

bright orange is new O.o

I am NOT talking about carpets by the way :-)

We had grey-blue, the grey-beige Scint mentioned, brown in at least four different shades, a dull grey-maroon-red, straw yellow, and two or three shades of green in the various houses I lived in growing up.

My current house however has wood floors with rugs thrown over them that used to be black (with different-colored adornments) but are now a sort of blue-grey-chalk color, except for two of the bedrooms which have the same off-white carpet.

the childhood talk on the last page is fun to read

I never heard of the "the floor is lava" game, must be an american thing,
but I did build a lot of caves out of various furniture and blankets, and the ocanional pillow ford for playing Cowboys and Indians (due to the Winnetou books of Karl May, for German kids Indians are always the good guys)

OK, so I was determined to conquer the insomnia monster last night. We went to sleep at 11 p.m. and I woke up rested and perky. I swore it was getting light outside so must be near 7 a.m. Found the phone, checked the time: 12:22 a.m. Seriously?

Fortunately, Puffin and I were at the bookstore yesterday and found a 'learn to draw' book on sale. He swore I could Art if I learned technique and practiced, so I got that book and a sketchpad and set them on the kitchen table for use in case of insomnia.

I spent two hours drawing circles, ellipses, and cylinders and shading them to look like billiard balls, apples, and coffee mugs. Went back to sleep at 4 and woke up at 6. 3-1/2 hours sleep, woo!

Honestly, the lack of sleep doesn't seem to be bothering me, it's just the necessity of being dead silent for hours to avoid waking puffins, roommates, and dogs.

And here I thought an older woman draped in leather would be a dream come true for you.

our living room had a ver ugly greenish-brown unicolor, looked terrible on a large room, my grandma had brown with orange flowers O.o

I don't have any carpeted floor in the house, I have wood-laminate, cork-laminate and tiles - much easier to keep clean

I sympathize greatly. I dunno if it'll help you but this is what I've been doing to avoid it:

1. Take a melatonin supplement about an hour before bed. That alone has really helped with sleep.
2. Do no strenuous activity (even slightly so, which for me includes just walking up and down the stairs from letting the dog out; basically anything that gets your heart rate up above resting pace) and eat no sugary foods or drink anything with caffeine or lots of sugar in it in that hour before bed. Perhaps as far back as two hours if that doesn't do the trick.
3. Run a noisemaker at night. If you're like me and can't sleep in silence, having something playing white noise or rain sounds or something can help immensely. (I sleep alone, though, so I don't have to worry about how that will jive with a partner though. Might want to skip this step if you think that'll be an issue for Puffin.)
4. After getting into bed and turning off the lights and computer, read for a half hour to an hour (or until you feel too tired to focus on the book). I've found it really helpful if I can't drift off to just lie there with a book for 30 to 45 minutes, then roll over and put it down and click off the light, I'm usually able to roll back over and drift off shortly after.

Dunno if any or all of those will be helpful to you or if you might have tried them already, but figured it couldn't hurt to offer =)

Heh, on the one hand I envy you of that, on the other I sympathize with being the nocturnal one.

Thanks for the advice, Orthos.

1 My mother and I both tried melatonin supplements and they're kinda like speed for us. Must be some sort of a genetic metabolism thing, but melatonin is freakishly counterproductive. It's darned near like Sudafed. Warm milk, though... maybe that would help.

2 I think I need more exercise during the day to tire me out so I sleep more soundly.

3 I have a CPAP machine that runs right next to my head, making soft whooshing noises. It's not only white noise, it reassures me that I'm still breathing. Good little machine.

4 I don't usually get that opportunity, unfortunately. You're right, though -- that will knock me right out, even good authors that I love dearly.

I get to sleep just fine. I simply wake up thinking the night is over when it's only just begun ♪♫. The extra productivity isn't bad, and I can go downstairs and work, if I'd only remember. Setting up things to do was really nice. Maybe I'll put out writing paper tonight, and do a bit of that! :D

Ah so you have the opposite problem from me - I have trouble getting to sleep but once I'm out I stay out, while it seems like you can get to sleep but have trouble staying asleep. Unfortunately that means I have no real advice for you >_<

And I sympathize on the melatonin thing, I was like that when I was a kid with certain medications, things that were supposed to make me hyper made me drowsy instead and vice versa. I seem to have grown out of most of it though.

There was plenty of that flying around too.

Fortunately, the boss monster had attack bonuses and saving throw modifiers to spare.
