O.o
What class is he? If it's witch then I guess I get that, he just doesn't have the spell known, but if he's a divine caster... bwuh?

Create a divine PC, that upon hearing what happened to the last PC in the group resurrects or reincarnates him.
I have to do a bit of research on contingencies and other spells to ensure the survival* of my PC.

I believe he is a bard of some sort.

No wonder he wants to keep his class hidden.
:P

** spoiler omitted **
I was running a master summoner so no contingency for me, I usually do my contingencies something like when I cast greater inviso or fire shield haste goes off on the party.
I was actually getting a little bored with him, but I will run the divine idea by my DM just to see what he says.

Aaaaaaaah. In that case yeah, the spell's just not on his list.

I just don't get the hate on fanfiction you seem to have. Mind you, I do prefer original works myself and such.
see, this guy knows what's up.

I've somehow managed to avoid the glut of terrible fanfiction out there and the small handful of the stuff I've read has come highly recommended and been mostly very good.
And a great deal of people start out with fanfiction before they come up with an original concept of their own. It's an excellent starting point.
Let people write what they want to write. As long as they aren't breaking laws by trying to make money off someone else's stuff, and as long as it's good to read, I don't care.
It beats no writing at all.
I too, have been lucky that way.

I disagree.
Eating your own venison burgers, from a deer you killed, butchered, then cooked, while drinking a beer you brewed yourself, using hops you grew yourself. All while watching football or a John Wayne movie marathon.
You have very strange ideas of manliness. But with your love of the evil snow, I guess I should not be surprised.
It's all good though, I forgive you your imperfections.
killing and eating an animal and drinking controlled spoilage doesn't make one manly, it means they are a omnivore! Spending time with your beloved children and spouse will always seem more manly to me than hunting and agriculture.

I used to keep in-character journals for my world of warcraft characters, since I played on RP-PvP servers most of the time.
I wrote them free-form on the spot and posted them as an in-character view of the roleplaying going on as well as the in-game accomplishments of my group/guild.
They were about as freestyle as you can get, I guess, and I'm sure they would qualify as fan-fic. So count me in the terrible person category.

Sometimes I think I'm better at the plotting than the writing.
I can outline things in intricate detail but have problems with motivating myself to do more than little bits of writing at a time. Especially noticeable in that I'll do bits here, here, and here, but filling out the middles between is agonizing.
I have certain major scenes visible clearly in my head, but I can't manage to get from scene A to scene B because the stuff in the middle is agaodshgasdhgasdifaosd
But I have SO MANY STORIES IN MY HEAD
I think that's why I like PF/D&D so much, I can start the plot and the players will do the hard work of filling out the stuff in the middle for me.

Ditto. I've been thinking of writing some Planescape fanfic myself. Can't be any worse than the actual novels they released.
