Naked partisanship!

I quite frequently dream about my grandmother, it usually is nice, we talk and do mundane stuff in,the dreams, the sad part is remembering she is gone after waking up.

and taliking about creepy:
my granddad died when I was 2 and a half, We where very close, opa (grandpa) was my first word.
around a year later I came into the kitchen to my grandma, wearing his hat and carrying his walking stick and talked to her in the way he would have talked, I called her by her name(Minna) which I have never done and told her not to be sad nd that I loved the picture of me (him) on the sideboard, then i said its time to go and went out.
when grandma asked me later I ould not remember doing that

Wow, aeglos. Just... wow.

I have yet to meet the spirits of my recently departed brother and father.

My grandparents and great grandparents, on the other hand, would receive a heart-felt invitation if I could find a way to send it to them.

Anyone have an astral spell and ward-of-githyanki.

Yeah, that was back in the days of the Flagons and Dragons Podcast. For all I know, it's dead now. Carl, the guy running it, doesn't really do Pathfinder any more.

I kinda get dreams sometimes; grandparents like to stand there, smiling like Obi Wan, Yoda, and Anakin at the end of ROTJ.

I don't know if I'm ready to say it's spirits, but it feels kinda heavy. And the first time I had the "smiling grampa" dream was a few years before "A New Hope" even came out, so I know it wasn't my subconscious assigning the "ROTJ" ending to my dreams, transposing my grandparents for the spirit jedi.

My mom woke up to a flash of light, and I was in my crib as a baby; she swore she saw her German grandmother looking over the rail of the crib at me and smiling and saying, "so kleine," which means "so small,..." over and over again.

Maybe it's a German thing?.....

hi everyone,

final day of our big American adventure

we did a cruise through the bay, it was cool,
had fun watching the sea lions at pier 39 - all 3 of them (apparently they move south in july for mating)

San Francisco people are the most unfriendly I have ever seen, and belive me, you have to be really unfriendly for a german to notice.
Tourists can be annoying, I understand that, but if you despise getting in contact with them MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT WORK AT A HOTEL OR A FREAKIN TOURIST ATTRACTION!!!!

my quest for Zombie Dices was unsuccessful, every toy store had them but is sold out, bookstores where almost imposible to find
I found the place here inSF where I bought the 2ed Forgotten Realms The North Box 18 years ago - it is a Starbucks now :-(

aeglos, you have to understand, San Fran people are always angry because they pay ten times as much for one fourth of what everyone else in the country does. New Yorkers can be rude sometimes for much the same reason.

Example. My 470 sq. ft. efficiency in the most desireable part of Houston cost $475 a month. I looked up what a comparable place in a comparable hood in San Fran would go for, and I couldn't find anything for under $2,500.

I work as a hotel desk clerk, and I hate people. Not just tourists, but pretty much everyone who comes through the door. I am a good enough liar to hide it, though. In fact I hide it well enough that I have received written compliments from guests and been praised by my managers for my "great people skills". So maybe they need to be better liars.

I'm too much of a hermit/pseudo-misanthrope and bad at disguising it. I just work jobs that stick me in the back corner office behind a desk away from people and bury myself in my headphones. Data entry I can do. Anything that involves being social, I fail.

I'm lucky in that I've had the same retail job since high school and have everyone trained to know that I'm slightly off-balance. Since I'm known as the resident eccentric, nobody pays too much attention to what I say, and not having to fake normalcy all day goes a long way toward feigning people skills.

The one relative to show up in my dreams is my stepdad. He died in 2003 of lung cancer, and we had always had a troubled relationship. The man was an bitter angry a*%~#&# who verbally and physically abused most of my life until about 6 months before he died, he tried to hit me for the last time and I punched him so hard he couldn't get up as I stormed out of the house. I never spoke to him again, and I got a call 6 months later he had passed away. He has shown up in my dreams a few times, always very mundane as if no one realized he was dead, and we would talk peacably unlike when he was alive. I always just thought it was my subconscious dealing with unresolved issues.

I think it's interesting that a universal trope is this serenity that you saw in evidence with your "dream of the departed."
I got the feeling, too, that when my grandfather would appear in my dreams, he was smiling and serene and not worried about anything.
He wasn't abusive and he died when I was four so there wasn't a great deal of history there, but......that serenity was present.

I wonder what it means, that it should show up in other peoples' dreams.
I don't think that at the time I had this overwhelming idea of a blissful heaven really entrenched in my mind; I was fairly young, and my parents hadn't taken me to church with any frequency.

I even remember seeing a picture of a tombstone and asking, "who is Rip?" so I don't know if the concept of resting in peace was there for me, one way or the other.

Again, I don't necessarily assign any "supernatural occurence" to these things. It's subconscious, I'm sure.

On the reverse my grandmother who has passed has only appeared once in my dreams. I was sort of semi aware she was dead just sort of off. But it wasn't unpleasant from what I can remember just not mundane or normal. But it's all very fuzzy beside the feeling I had about the dream itself.

I have these really disconcerting dreams; I used to visit my grandparents in Minnesota in the summer......and they're now passed away, and the house they had was demolished to build something else.....it really bummed me out, because this house was the most beloved thing in the world to me. I dream, though, that I'm back in that house, visiting, and I always know that it's really been demolished, so I can't possibly be there, and therefore must be dreaming. I can't even enjoy the dream.

I don't remember my dreams that often any more, but this is one that I have with some frequency and am prone to remembering, and being bummed out for a day or two afterward.

My personal favorite fast food chain is Steak 'n Shake. Love their burgers. Lion's Choice makes fantastic roast beef sandwiches, but I don't think they are a very widespread chain, and the nearest one to me is about 2.5-3 hours away so I haven't had some in years. And for late-night grease bombs, can't beat White Castle, though again I don't have one near me anymore.

I need to take a road trip to the St. Louis area. Visit some old stomping grounds and get some nostalgic fast food.

Ha! I lived in Glen Carbon for a decade or two.

Used to drive through Glen Carbon on occasion. I think the only times I stopped there was when I screwed up my knee (slipped on ice, tore some cartiledge and stretched a ligament by 3mm) and I went to an orthopedic specialist there for treatment and physical therapy.

More woman trouble:
I've been talking with this one girl for around a month now, over the phone, on FB, and on Skype. I think I mentioned her over on PIE asking for more advice. Basically what it boils down to is that even though she's great, I'm not even close to being over my fiancee yet, and if we go further, this is going to be the definition of a rebound relationship. I really can't do this one.

Here's the kicker: even though my first relationship was ten years ago, I've never been the one to leave--it's always been the girl I've been dating. I have no f+@~ing clue how to do this without seeming like a robot and/or douchebag. How the hell do I pull this off?

My grandfather passes away shortly after our girls were born. I missed his funeral because they were still in the hospital and I didn't want to travel that far away from them and my wife.

I am fairly certain he came to visit the twins after they got home from the hospital.

Of course, we also had the spirit of some black guy watching over them, too. He was funny. I could only ever see him out of the corner of my eye, but he'd hang out at the bottom of the stairs and watch the babies in the living room from around the wall, there. I'm not sure if he was playing peek-a-boo with them or what, but he watched them like a hawk. I have no idea who he was...just some dark-skinned, older man wearing black pants and a blue t-shirt.

I used to have so many experiences like that, but as my age and life-stress levels go up, my connection to that part of the world weakens considerably.

Liberty's Edge Contributor

Of course, there's my daughter, who at the age of 5 (and at the time, unable to read) would walk over the "in memory of" bricks at the local war memorial park and say, "Look, Daddy! Spirits!"

I have no idea where she would have picked that up.

Spoiler:

On some level, you can't. If you tell her you can't/don't want to see her anymore, you're going to hurt her feelings. And because you're not a sociopath, it's not going to feel good.

All you can do is be honest, as gentle as possible, and treat her with respect afterward. Some people have a tendency to make themselves feel better about a breakup by bad-mouthing the ex after they have broken up. As long as you don't do anything like that, then you're doing everything you can do to avoid douche-hood... douchedom... doucheness... whatever. ;)

You're a good guy, Shiney. Don't beat yourself up because you're not willing to string a girl along while you go through the process of grieving your last relationship.

Liberty's Edge Contributor

Not to take anything away from the seriousness of Shiney's predicament, I wanted to introduce, Invader Zim. He's like a brother to me, and I've been remiss in inviting him to jump on the crazy train that is FAWTL. He's not a very experienced PFRPG player, but he and I started playing 2nd Edition back in the late 80s, and he's a great guy. I'm not sure how active he'll be able to be in the group or on the boards, but he's looking to increase his Pathfinder and Paizo ties, and I can't think of a better place for him to do that than here. :D

Anyone with a kickass messageboard name like Invader Zim should fit right in!

Though I am the last to give good advice. Be honest with her, tell her that she's great but that you don't want to be a douche and any actual relationship wouldn't be healthy for either of you at the moment.

She'll hopefully understand. (although that atm is a killer, but it depends if you still want to talk to her.)

Treppa wrote:

Don't remember his name. It was *mumble mumble* years ago. I remember his office had its own MRI, which was nice, and the physical therapy area was in the basement. He was friendly, helpful, and professional. If I could remember his name I would recommend him.

Nope, that's not him. Too bad. Mike was a saint.

That said, I'm not sure why you'd go back to Metro East for food, except for Andrea's. OMNOMNOM.

EDIT: OK, and Marilyn's Pie Pantry. I've been tempted to make the trip to Belleville strictly to pick up a banana split pie.
