The Round 4 rules should go live later this week.
As a heads-up to the competitors who want to get a head start ahead of the posted R4 rules, know this:
Round 4 this year is going to be very similar to Round 4 from RPG Superstar 2010.

The twist is that those eliminated get to choose and define the twist and then the best 5 twists are open to public vote so we can vote for the stinkiest nastiest twists that are on offer :P
Seriously though, good luck with round 4, it's one I would have struggled with more than most as my Golarion knowledge is somewhat lacking and an area I need to work on for next years contest.

Seriously, I've heard Staples and Kinkos both are good options.
If you hand draw maps, do not use blue line graph paper. As I found out, the lines don't scan.

They practically give away scanners at office stores nowadays, they're typically attached to free printers. I personally have two gathering dust because they came free with other things I bought.
Alternately, if you have a smartphone, you could get a photo-scanner (genius scan for iphone works quite well).
And in if doubt, there's always MS paint. ;)

And in case your lines don't scan well, you can download something like this.

I find it interesting that SKR said that this year's round 4 was like 2010's round 4 (which was "design an adventure site with a prior round's monster"). What's more interesting is that he didn't say that it would be like 2009's round 4 (which was "design the lair of a prior round's villain").
To me that suggests that we merely have to use a round 2 archetype, rather than a round 3 villain.
Uh, thoughts or comments on that one?

Maybe you'll need to use a 2010 monster? ;-)

Confidence? I don't know about that. Just concern that if I do make the next round that I don't have ready access to one. I mean I've got three broken printer/scanners in my closet but that doesn't really help me.
Also there is the concern that any effort I put in become nill on the twists release. Like last round.

Perhaps we will have a list of options similar to this round. Actually, I'm not sure that would work unless the give us all PDF bestiary or instruct us to work from the PRD, they might be hamstrung by inconsistencies in our reference material.
Perhaps it will be just like 2010, and we'll be instructed to use a 2010 monster, or maybe, just maybe a 2012 monster (if there are still monsters in 2012 that is).
The R3 twist was so out of left field for me I'm not really wracking my brain trying to out guess them. I'm happy to wait for the twist just like last round.

no offense intended, Ryan. My advice would be to check Staples or Kinkos as a backup.

Specifically because of your troubles last year, and remembering that issue in particular, I gave my scanner a trial run on the (blue lined) graph paper I have this weekend. (Just in case things go well.) It worked, actually, which was a nice relief. I did scan at a crazy high resolution, though, so maybe that's a difference.
So what I think I'm saying here is: if there's a possibility of being in the next round (i.e., you're a contestant now), and you're planning on hand drawing and scanning, test that scanner right now to be sure all is well.

Mine worked at a high resolution too, it's when you drop it down to the required resolution (from last year) that it disappeared.
Just want to make clear, self depriciating humor aside, I'm not bitter or wanting to appear to be harping on it. I just want to make sure no one repeats my mistakes.

It doesn't come across that way at all, don't worry. I, for one, definitely appreciate your warnings/insights. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

About to cross-post this to the 'advice' thread. Thanks, Matthew, for bringing this up. :)

I suspect the top 8 will still find that vast amount of wordage evaporating quite quickly.
