Where are the winners from?

RPG Superstar™ 2011 General Discussion

It's great seeing the names of the winners, but I know none of them personally. I seem to recall that in years past the winners had their hometowns listed next to their names. Was that something that was added after the fact, or are hometowns just not being included this year?

I wanted to know if there were any hometown heroes from the places I live/that I have a connection to (Seattle metropolitan area, Bellingham WA, and central Pennsylvania/PA in general). In any event, congratulations to everybody, and especially those who come from the places I mentioned. Get out their and represent, fellows.

Well, without the hometowns the list looks a lot cleaner, but yeah, it was kind of fun seeing where everyone was from.

By the way, I'm out of West Lafayette, IN.

I believe that they're planning on updating it with hometowns. If you can't wait though, I'm from Schaumburg, IL a suburb of Chicago.

I'm sure they'll be adding that data as they get it from us :) As for me, I'm a California gal, born and bred. Grew up in San Gabriel (of California Mission fame), near Los Angeles and Pasadena (home of the Rose Parade). Now I live down in Poway, north east of San Diego.

I am currently living in Hamden, right outside of New Haven, CT.

I doubt I count as a hometown hero, but I used to live in Vancouver and spend a good deal of time in Seattle where my dad lives. Bellingham splits the distance between the two I suppose.

Colorado Springs? That's most likely Army at Fort Carson, or Air Force at the Academy :) Spent the first couple years of my marriage there with my husband stationed at Fort Carson, before he ETSed and we returned to warmer climes in Southern California ::chuckle::

I was active in the Air Force, stationed at the Academy when it still had a fully functioning hospital. I've been "attached" to the Army, Marine Corps, and Navy via various familial relationships.

Hey, everyone. NYC here, originally from Massachusetts. I balance that out by rooting for the Yankees part of the year and then swinging over to the Pats for football season. :-)

I live in the Lilac City in the Granite State, ie, Rochester, NH. I spent the day shoveling snow. I had the same feeling of shock and disbelief today as I did Sunday when the Pats lost. I still feel like I'm going to wake up tomorrow and it's going to be Saturday and the Pats will still be in the playoffs and I won't make the top 32. Life is funny sometimes.

Amen, brother, amen. Like me, I bet there are a lot of George R.R. Martin fans on these boards. One of my favorite authors but he loves the Jets and hates the Patriots. Love his books, hate his choice in teams.

I'll make an effort. I always make a point to remember to go to OwlCon, but it always passes me by. I'll try to get the weekend off. I actually grew up in one of the surrounding neighborhoods, so Rice has a special place in my heart.

I know how tough it is to run a Con, as I was involved in putting on AggieCon in College Station while I went to A&M.

I may be in Boise all summer (I graduated highschool there and my family lives there...and my wife and I are thinking about moving back after I finish law school). How is the Pathfinder scene there? When I last lived there (10 years ago), miniatures based war gaming was really big and it was relatively hard to find a D&D game. But every once in a while I swing by a game store in town and they seem to carry more RPG stuff these days.

I'll second the request for city/state/countries to get listed. I've paid no attention to Superstar so far this time around but did check the blog to see where the winners were from. It's strangely fascinating to see gamers from all over the world for some reason.

I really should start collecting Boise Pathfinder players into some sort of coherent group. Was thinking on getting some Pathfinder Society thing going some time. There's apparently a lot of 'em crawling around out here. :D

Cody, where around Boise do you call home?

And John, the miniatures wargame scene is still big. All About Games (where apparently my name-doppelganger works) is still pretty big into the Warmachine/Warhammer/Prolly-other-things-with-"War"-in-the-name scene, though they do have some solid RPG selection. Poor ol' Dark Horse went under a few years back, which was not aided by moving out to Emmett. I'm friends with Wolf's son and daughter, so I get updates from time to time, but for now, it looks like Boise will remain a one-game-store town (unless you count Hobbytown's token gaming corner).

I grew up in Madison, WI, but I live in Arlington, VA these days and work in DC.

I've seen more than enough snow to last me a lifetime, but given how DC basically shuts down completely with an inch or two of snow, I wouldn't mind a nice blizzard to get me a few days off work...

Jerall, where in SA are you from? My mom is from Cape Town, and I'll probably be going there to visit family this summer.

Born and raised in San Diego, CA. I don't surf but sometimes boogie board and my two biggest interests are role playing and music.

Hey Levi, have you ever been to House on the Rock? It's a bit south of you. I've wanted to check that place out ever since reading about it in Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Sounds pretty crazy.

I've been playing with the same group of people since middle school, but I have heard of a couple other groups around down.

If you haven't heard ABU Games on Fairview has recently sold all of their video games and converted to entirely tabletop games and Magic sales. I don't remember if I saw any wargaming while I was in there...

Generally, they're added after the fact, since we don't necessarily have the address of every contestant until we ask them for it—and if we asked them *before* we announced that they're in the Top 32, it'd be kind of a tipoff that that was coming...

Cool. Somehow I only ever get to visit SA during June-July when everything can be a bit overcast and soggy. Still beautiful, though.

I'll probably be there in July, so no local con for me (though maybe it's for the best... family would NOT be pleased if I contemplated going).

I guess they had a huge event with Gaiman there on Halloween - a costume contest, dinner, author panel, opened up the carousel, and everything. I wanted to go, but I couldn't afford it. It looked really sweet.
