Sad,

With the exception of Chloe, I liked where the series was going.

They killed the ONE VERSION of the show I found interesting. I think there's some kind of conspiracy.

This will be the first time in a long time that there was no Stargate series on television. Kind of a bummer. I'll miss the tension between Rush and Young. I'll miss the enigma that is Eli. I'll even miss Tefler. What a bummer.....

I still hope they are going to keep making the movies...

Taking the Sci out of Scifi? Oh wait, they did that already.

But hey, we'll get more wrestling and BBC remakes to replace it *snort*.

I'll admit, Greer was beginning to grow on me and quickly becoming a favourite.

Now now...they have bills to pay. I understand the hate for more wrestling on Scifi(SyFy), but there are certain economic realities they have to face as a channel(and more importantly as a subsidiary of NBC[at least I think it's NBC]). If you still need to rage, just think on how NBC(at least I think it's NBC) gave SyFy the shaft and greedily grabbed Heroes for themselves, forcing a lot of weird re-writes that eventually devolved the show into schlock. If you want to feel better, remember that this really didn't happen with BSG.

Might have helped with parts... :P

I know I know. But at the same time, they have ads and stuff. Maybe I'm just wrong for modern 'sci-fi' television. I like character driven shows, not an overdose of action.

Beleive me, I'm still torqued about the Stargate RPG dying. How long before they kill Sanctuary?

Sanctuary barely makes sense, friend. It's not going to be on much longer, nor will Friday the 1- I mean, Warehouse 13.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

as much as I enjoyed them as 'one offs' I found the Eureka/Warehouse 13 crossover jarring. If they exist in the same world, why wouldn't the technological advances (like the Tesla gun or the Farnsworth) be taken and disected at Eureka, instead of locked up? And the mystical items just don't 'fit' in Eureka's worldview.

I enjoy Warehouse 13 (and not just because Allison Scaglioti is cute) because of the 'stealth education' they sneak in with some of the items. Artie is my favourite, and the chemstry between Saul Rubinek and Scaglioti is amazing.

That and the facial expressions Joanne Kelly can do are amazingly funny.

Sanctuary is enjoyable, but my favourite character has to be Tesla. The actor just plays him as such a richard. Still the best line goes to John Druit. "Mass murder may be good for the soul, but there's no place like home."

Still, SGU was enjoyable to me, except for Chloe.

Crossovers are porn for SciFi fans- a great idea that you can't get enough of, but if you take it too seriously it's ruined.

Dark Archive

I am sad to here this. I bet if they had left it on Fridays, this would not have happened.

Dark Archive

SGU is easily the best looking show that Sci-Fi has going on, so I guess it makes perfect sense that they'd axe it.

Eureka remains a favorite (although the Christmas ep was cheesy), and Warehouse 13 can go die in a fire. I liked it at first, but it's just flat out too campy for me now. Even the serious character is acting like a spazz, which is just jarring. It's like everyone on the show has gone completely crazy, when their whackadoodle behavior makes the cast of Farscape look like a well-oiled machine. It got to the point that I liked H.G. Wells better than the main characters, because she *didn't* act like a goofball all the time.

Sorry, but I've never liked the show and honestly can't understand how the franchise has lasted as long as it has.

Maybe SyFy could do another reboot, Galactica style for Buck Rogers or some other cheesy 70's show.

How about a reboot of an old Black and White Scifi Film Called the Tunnel. Its about a megacorporation digging a Tunnel from Britain to America as part of a larger 'English speaking Alliance'. It seems dominated by Corporate machinations. Something that could be converted into a TV series.

What sucks even more is that while they are canceling SGU but making agreements to turn several made-for Syfy movies into big screen flicks.

I don't understand the network, most Sci-Fi fans aren't wrestling fans, and wrestling fans aren't really Sci-Fi fans...

It's not a surprise that they're killing any good show.

I guess I was an exception then... I was a big sci-fi and wrestling fan for a long time... at least until my two favorite wrestlers died in the same year :(

I always kind of wonder about "network drift" when it comes to cable channels, such as music stations that start producing shows about anything but music, cartoon networks that start programming more and more live action shows, and science fiction channels that show, say, wrestling.

I know there has to be some strategy for this. Its probably worked for MTV becoming a general "young adult pop culture" channel, and I'm sure "generalizing" gets you better penetration and ad rates, but I also wonder how many networks loose their base before they pick up more "general" viewers.

I have to agree with you though I have no idea how Star Gate franchise lasted so long. Universe was the only version I was able to watch. However, it was starting to get old watching them torture Eli. Whats with all the music filler too? I guess its about to run its course.

Can anyone expand on why series of seemingly any genre cant make it more than 1-2 seasons without turning to crap?

The longer something in television is successful the more executives pay attention to it and decide they know how to make it even more awesome because they "know" the television watching public?

As long as we still have Doctor Who via the ancestors overseas I'll be fine. SGU's cancellation is still sad though. I loved what few episodes I saw. =(

I read an interview a few years back that addressed this. The folks interviewed included Ric Flair, Bob Backlund, Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts and Roddy Piper (among others). The wrestlers all indicated that most of the matches were indeed scripted beforehand, and they actually "rehearsed" the matches prior to the exhibition in an attempt to avoid injury. The only exceptions to this were the title matches and the ones in the PPVs. For these matches, it was left up to the wrestlers involved to decide a winner, and the wrestlers loved this as they were able to express their creativity and really display their skills and showmanship. I'm not sure if this is the case anymore, as Vince McMahon is such a control freak, but I hope this is still the case.

Actually, things go one of two ways ... either the writers use up all their good ideas on the first few seasons and then just retread the same ground or are forced to contrive "wackier" circumstances to keep the show moving until they finally jump the shark ... or else the show is a good concept that is poorly executed until it gets in a couple seasons and "finds its legs", usually involving some staffing/casting changes.

Personally, I thought SG1 didn't really get good until The Other Guys in Season 6 ... then they f-ed up and made those events canon later on and blew it again.

FWIW,

Let's be fair. yes, I'll likely buy the season 1 set, but I am also one of the loudest critics of the way they ran with the show. I'm basically hoping the second season actually lives up to the awesomeness of the comic books.

And to clarify my stand of Stargate. I loved the movie, it's to bad somebody didn't make a series about it.

IMHO, the movie was a great concept that was horribly executed, and "somewhat" redeemed by the series.

Episode 1: Low-lighting? Check. Funky music? Check. People having sex? Check.

Yeah, I never really had high hopes for "Battle-Gate", as we took to calling.

At least there is still Fringe.

I do find it interesting that it gets canceled shortly after making people wait 30 days to watch missed episodes online. I know me and my wife weren't able to watch it on Tuesdays, but were religious about seeing it online till they did that.

May any other show with the letters "SG" attached to them go just as quickly.

Sorry, I'm not a Stargate fan, of any incarnation. Even bringing in Ben Browder and Claudia Black on SG-1 couldn't inspire any real interest to watch the show or any of its spin-offs...

Also +1. I liked the show BECAUSE it was vastly different from the rest of the series, being essentially a survival space drama. I've always enjoyed Robert Carlyle's performances and look forward to seeing him in bigger and better things. I liked the character Greer and the eyecandy that was Eli's hot red-headed alien girlfriend, even if she did only last a few episodes.

-----------------------------
The only other sci-fi that I'm currently interested in is the "V" on ABC and "The Walking Dead" on A&E. I watch those online as I'm of the opinion that cable TV in general is crap, if you want reality, turn the TV off.

SyFy showing wrestling really is just a big FAIL. As is all their craptastic movies about killer mega ginormous animal/fish, whether they star Dean Cain or otherwise... FAIL.

The Cape is another example of NBC keeping all the good shows for themselves and shuffling the crap to Sci-Fi, then wondering why they don't keep viewers for long.

I had asked my friends about 'The Cape' and the new 'Being Human', for the most part I got a "Meh" kind of response. So I never did get around to watching the pilots. I also heard the BBC version of 'Being Human' was better than this new one a few times, but it's still a bit early to tell IMO. I will eventually sneak both into my schedule if only for a few episodes.

Speaking of superhero shows, I have also been watching 'No Ordinary Family' via Hulu. I think Michael Chikalis plays the Super strength/Invunerable Tank character well, one of the few things I liked about the 'Fantastic Four' movies. But I've come to the conclusion that the only thing that keeps me watching the show is Autumn Reeser as Katie, the mom's lab tech sidekick, she's a hottie. Also a very brief appearance by Rebbeca Mader aka Charlotte from LOST.

Also currently waiting for season 4 of 'True Blood' from HBO.

I watched about 3 episodes of 'Justified' hoping for something a bit more -fantasy meets modern world- and ended up a tad disappointed, though Timothy Olyphant pulls off the role of gunslinger well IMO. Not much of a stretch for him though considering his movies to date, he's become the 'guy with gun' like Jason Statham has become 'guy with car'. Plus I'm not big into what is essentially a cop drama show.

For the adult crowd and those who enjoyed 'Gladiator' or '300', I highly recommend 'Spartacus' from STARZ. I say -adult crowd- solely because the show is readily abundant with foul language and nudity.

Sorry it's slightly off topic, but figured it would be in the interest of general conversation since we're leaning that way.

Personally they lost me on the first episode, after hanging with them through SG1 and Atlantis. Then again they almost lost me on Atlantis because I intensely dislike "lost in space" style shows. The equivalent would have been having Atlantis still trapped underwater and the shield still failing at the end of the first episode, plus a "you cannot come back to the city" after X amount of time passes for silly reason Y.

I will say meh not as great as I was hoping I had mixed feelings about Eli as the "you are here", average science fiction fan> i liked the fan ascpect but way to insult your demographic by impling that all sci-fi fans are fat, smart but unmotivated, mom/basement dwellers, with limited abilities to interact with the opposite sex. Really thats what you thought was a good idea.

Here's hoping this means Robert Carlyle is available for some more big screen gigs.
