If you use the Arcana to get the spell the it is added to the Magus list and does not suffer ASF. It becomes a Magus spell.
I supposed you could at that. But to spend 1 of 6 Arcana to get one (two if you're high enough level) protection spells seems a bit high cost. Yes, I understand you can take Spell Blending more than once but every time you do that's something else you can't take.
Don't get me wrong, I think the class looks pretty good. I just find it odd that the Prot spells didn't make the list.

As far as I read in an other post from Jason, it is the flavor of the magus to have lots of attack spells and only a small amount of defensive spells.
Have to agree here, Magus is a (single target) blaster char, no buff char, i like the spell list and the new arcane pool system :)

No buff char? Are you sure you've looked through his spell list?
The Magus really isn't much of a buff class. Sure he's got a few good spells but nothing like what is available to a Bard or full caster.
And that's OK. The Magus shouldn't outbuff a bard and a bard shouldn't outfight a Magus. Right now the class succeeds in occupying that space. With a bit of Arcana expenditure you can get more buffs like Heroism at the cost of enhanced fighting ability which allows for some customization.
