Meh, Durkon isn't out yet. More than likely he will either return to being a mortal Dwarf or undermine the Linear Guild til his dying day... Well the day he gets returned to death...

Also keep in mind

Spoiler:
He's going to be free willed per his maker's statements. So we could see a lot of 'Kin we cut the beer w/some blood?' moments too

@ Matthew:
Indeed, I'm actually quite looking forward to seeing how Durkon behaves once he's not under Malack's control anymore. Should have some interesting conversation topics...

You wouldn't say that if he was zombified instead, would you?

Matthew/Darkwolf:
I have strong suspicion that it might not end so well...

Actually, even more so. In Burlew's world so far, zombies haven't been known for their witty conversation. So I wouldn't even have the hope of any good one liners.

But, as I said, I'll probably keep up with it a bit longer. But a large part of the joy is gone.

Have a little faith. Let's see what a vampire Durkon is like.
They could always kill the vampire and then Resurrect Durkon, right?

And do I see a trip to the dwarven lands in the near future? The oracle did say he would return posthumously.

True, true...

This is what happens when you split the party.

"Also, use your inside voice."

I don't know why that cracked me up so much.

They even had a whole album telling them not to.

Sovereign Court

I don't think Durkon is out of the fight just yet ... he may be on the wrong side of it for a moment or two, but he's not out of it yet.

In addition to the EXCELLENT plot stuff going on, the last panels of 879 hold a special meaning for me. A few years ago I stepped out of a gaming session for some fresh air and fainted. Fell face first on the sidewalk and broke a few teeth, and needed a couple of stitches on my chin. A week later I picked up the "-1" and "0" books, and was planning on reading them after dinner. However, during my meal my jaw got stuck OPEN! I rode off to the emergency room and the doctors and interns on duty took turns trying to pop my jaw back into place. But it wasn't dislocated, it was broken! My girlfriend showed up to the hospital later, and I was able to lay there, jaw stuck open and read OOtS. After some morphine and events that I was awake for but don't remember, I woke up the next day with my jaw finally shut...WIRED shut.

Over the next couple of months my days were filled with surgery, super jaw wiring, dental visits, and pain. I could hardly do anything, but my girlfriend had gotten me a few of the Order of the Stick Books. My otherwise miserable days were made a little brighter by escaping into the OOtS world.

When I see Belker on the floor like that with a "thunk!", I can't help but feel like that panel was written for me. I'm sure it is just a classic fall gag, but it means so much to me. The whole thing means so much to me.

Thanks Rich Burlew! For everything!

Ouch :/

I'm glad the 'not believing Belkin' got wrapped up in one post; the events are traumatic enough without having additional levels of mistrust and denial wrapped around.

This shook me enough that I was on the verge of tears. That is powerful art to make a grown man shed tears on the fate of a simple stick figure.

The dwarven lands will rue the day they sent Durkon away.

And I think Malack is in for a severe disappointment when he releases him. "Engage as peers" indeed.

" He really turned undead" :-))

Grand Lodge

He walks that line about not killing main characters a lot doesn't he...

I can't help but think of Dominic Deegan... Which reminds me. I need to catch up on that.

I keep trying to contribute something to my response to what's been happening the past few strips, and I can't really get past "holy s&#$!"

How about "No!!!!!! Not Durkon!!!!!!"?

Vampires can be destroyed with a stake. A stake is made of wood. Wood comes from trees. TREEVENGE!

Oh dang... Durkon's fear of trees should have just went up...

I thought he was a good cook, too?

Rich is a master story teller and has a phd in the plot twist doesn't he?

Yes. Yes, he does. or even something beyond a phd.

V needs to get his/her act together and beat down the LG. A few more levels could open up access to Wish, which could be used for a Resurrection. They've got the diamonds, after all.

They're still using 3.5, however, so that means he's got to use Experience Points instead, specifically 5,000 XP, which is actually a bigger deal even at that level than even in PF.

So... you know... it's still difficult.

I might expect him to go for the third-edition components like Liquid Pain or Distilled Joy to help augment his spellcasting. What would be pretty hilarious, is if he used his newfound powers of good by distilling some excess joy from his allies. So, you know, still using them. But considering how little such stuff would be able to contribute to (two to three XP each, compared to 5,000), they'll have to do a lot of "joy-ing", which... doesn't actually sound like something they'd object to.

Either that or hook stuff up to Belker when he's getting away with something or killing things*. That's probably a ton of doses right there.

About Belker:
Presuming he doesn't die and/or get converted soon.

EDIT: correct the spoiler tag

Now I have a vision of Belkar wearing monk robes (in a Western European sense of holy hermit-priest) who rejects violence and changed his name as part of atonment, so there is no more Belkar Bitterleaf...

That reminds me of something...
(I hope you're happy. You made me spend an hour looking that up... :D)

It didn't take that long. You made it in less than half an hour :P

No, I'm pretty sure it was closer to four! ;D

This comic is awesome.

Tarquin awesomely talkative as usual.

Too much great texts to spoiler-quote.

Tarquin... Priceless...

Even before reading the comic, the title and Nale's expression had me smiling.

Puts an interesting spin on both prophecies about Durkon--how he'll bring disaster when he 'returns' to the dwarven lands, and how he'll return posthumously.

Pathfinder imps don't have teleport without error anymore. :-(

Last panel. Imp's word balloon!

Other characters constantly refer to V as he/him or she/her, even within the party. Having another character attempt to guess or make an assumption of V's gender is far from new.

they've stated a few times that any use of pronoun by a character is that characters interpretation.

Considering the imp didn't even see varsuvius pee because they were using invisibility, i don't think the imp has any more information than we do.

*sob!*

A better question at this point is "Who is granting the dwarf-vampire's spells?"

I think Thor would react poorly to one of his priest conjuring a fiendish creature.

Or at least curious as to why they summoned it.

However, it didn't look like Thor was paying much attention to Durkon at the moment, anyway, as seen a few strips ago.
