New Character help

Pathfinder Society

1/5

Now that I have one character half way to 12th level, I can see the glaring problems with being a noob (both at Pathfinder Organized Play and Pathfinder) and not fully grasping how much skills play in the game. With that being said, I have a second character that I am beginning to play and would like your immense skills and advice. First, I am not looking for optimized damage or such, just ability to complete missions(Society & Faction) and provide support for the party. Here is how I statted my Inquisitor:

I am planning to take a couple skills of linguistics to gain some extra languages as it would behoove my character to be able to talk to his prey in their language. So, in your eyes, what are the best skills to max and what ones would prove beneficial to have some ranks in? How about feat progression and spell selection? Thanks for any help provided!

It never hurts to have a high perception and a high acrobatics. Perception lets you see the danger coming. Acrobatics lets you maneuver around in combat to give your teammates flanks without provoking ops.

I've also found that history and knowledge local come up an awful lot. Being able to speak Kelish and Ancient Azlanti is also often useful.

I recommend that as an Andoran you choose to speak the languages of the slave-taking cultures. Kelish & Osiriani are good choices, as are Aklo and Undercommon. I consider PCs who aren't scholars or sages to be cheesy if they select Ancient Azlanti or Ancient Osiriani (no offense, teribithia).

As an Andoran you are going to be using Diplomacy very heavily. Many times you will be asked to free slaves when you can't simply use force to achieve your goal. Andorans need to be good talkers. Most residents of Golarion don't understand Andoran's objections to slavery, and violence isn't always the solution.

None taken. The only character I have that speaks it is a Monk/Wizard and has Azlanti blood, so I kind of agree. Wanted to put it out there as useful, though. :)

I missed the Andoran part. My Andoran halfling uses intimidate a lot more than she uses diplomacy. She gives fiery, emphatic, anti-slavery speeches and then gets up in the slavers' faces and scares them into letting their captives go...of course, it helps when you're riding a giant, purple, flying, acidic fanged rabbit thing, too....

My Andoran character is my first one a Rogue. This character is Qadiran, however, he is not a "true blue" Qadiran in that he has no qualms with slavery, but he doesn't go searching for trouble with Andorans or others, nor will he maintain a slave of his own. So, with that being said, what should I focus on? Thanks for the advice so far BTW!

I think diplomacy is better for Qadirans--you have to be able to schmooze to get the best deals, after all.

Still going with my original skill suggestions, though.

Whoops! I got my icons messed up. I thought I saw the Andoran symbol next to your new PC's name. Qadiran Inquisitor. Gotcha.

Well, like teribithia said Knowledge (Local) is going to be very useful. Let's face it, the two most commonly called upon skills are Diplomacy and Perception. An inquisitor should be armed with both.

Intimidate should be just as viable as diplomacy (and probably more appropriate for an inquisitor) but people seem to have an irrational hatred for the skill and tend to DM fiat it into uselessness.

If you play with decent judges I would get intimidate too.

A nice wand to purchase with 2PA is a wand of comprehend languages. While it won't let you speak the language it will allow you to read the inevitable documents written in obscure languages.

As for feats the Cosmopolitan feat might be useful for you.
(Benefit: You gain two languages of your choice. In addition, choose two Intelligence-, Wisdom-, or Charisma based skills. Those skills always count as class skills for you.)
