8) 5, because that allows for the coverage of the primary roles with a little bit of overlap, but doesn't crowd the table, and if someone can't make it to the game, you still have 4.

Aside from the Wheels, Thrones, and the Chariots, the Bible doesn't really do that much description. catholic.org has some information but I couldn't get the site to load in Safari. But it did load in firefox. http://www.catholic.org/saints/angels/angelchoir.php

I really want to make a monk that uses a sword and has super mobility like the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, any plans to create a Sword Monk Archetype?

This just popped into my head while working on stuff for my home game but I thought I'd ask.

How do traditional Orcs view homosexuality in lands like the Hold of Belkzen? Is it different based on paring, do they have any concepts of trans orcs and if so how does that diversity of non-traditional genders (assuming they share the same 2 sexes we have) factor into their culture?

We haven't broached that topic yet, nor do I see the need to, honestly. AKA: It's not a significant enough part of Belkzen society to worry about.

Orcs of Golarion page 10 talks about rare females called cross souls that are believed to have the spirits of males. They have to really fight for it but are eventually accepted basically. They sometimes dress as males alter themselves or take women of their own. Sounded like it might fit a bit into what he was asking after.

Also since I posted anyway...any chance of new oracle curses soon? I want more variety and they are all so flavorful.

Two questions:

1) Where is your review of Godzilla? I'd like to read it, and it's been out a week. Spoilers are done. Saw it, loved it, wondered how a true fan sees it. I've never seen the original from the 50's, btw, and certainly not most of the movies (the ones that got aired in America, sure).

2) Where is this picture of you with the gauntlet? I'd like to see how you look. As someone who hasn't been able to clear that last forty pounds, it's nice to see someone make it all the way.
(Edit) NM on #2, just saw the daily blog. Wow, looking good there James. What are you at, 6' and 180 or so now?

1) I haven't posted a review of Godzilla. I should perhaps restart my blog and start with a review of it. If I do, I'll post here to let folks know. The short version of the review is "VERY GOOD A+!!!!!" though.

2) I'm six feet tall and at 205 pounds or so right now (the picture in question was taken a few days ago). I was down to about 190 pounds at the lowest, but once you phase off of the diet food and regimen and start eating carbs and sugar again, you bounce back up ten pounds or so as your body restores various fluid levels and stuff that you didn't have when you were in ketosis.

Hi James, a couple of questions on the Shadow Plane:

1. are there seas/lakes/rivers on the shadow plane - I assume there are - and if there are, then presumably it rains and maybe even snows on the shadow plane?
2. is there a "sun" albeit a very dim one and a moon?
3. are there plants such as trees, grass, etc - my reason for asking is if the sun is either non-existent or very dim, how do plants grow? If there are no plants (or very limited/stunted vegetation, how do animals live on the shadow plane (or fetchlings for that matter) - or is everything on the shadow plane an outsider that doesn't need to eat?

Just started work on a new plot-line for my group and need to make sure I'm describing the shadow plane properly. If there are any good fictional descriptions of the shadow plane, it would be great to have a few suggestions :o)

Areelu's mythic path abilities include Sanctum, which creates a personal extradimensional sanctum that can be customised by the user when first created.

What does hers look like?

Additionally, which 13 demon lords did she perform the "humiliating favors" for when creating her Robe of the Rifts? If not all of them, could you just mention some?

Question regarding Curse of the Crimson Throne and the new Harrow Handbook:

Curse of the Crimson Throne is kicked off by each PC receiving a Harrow card that corresponds to both their highest ability score and their alignment. A CN ranger with a high Dexterity gets The Rabbit Prince, for example, while the NG wizard with high Intelligence gets The Wanderer card.

What happens if the PC is Multi-Ability-Dependent, and they have no single attribute that's dominant? For example, if a paladin's highest scores are an equal Strength and Charisma that are both 16, which card does he/she get? The Paladin (LG STR) or The Empty Throne (LG CHA)? How do you, either in your capacity as a developer or a GM, decide how the Harrowing affects PCs with two or more equal high scores, and thus no dominant Harrow suit?

1) There are and it does, but rivers and water and rain and snow is dark and shadowy and might have weird magical effects and don't necessarily follow the laws of physics.

2) No sun.

3) There are plants. They are sustained by the fact that they're shadows of those in the Material Plane, and are sustained by things other than science in this eerie supernatural realm.

It looks like a fancy palace bedroom suite.

And the "humiliating favor" list is intentionaly vague. She doesn't want me to say, but I suspect Socothbenoth, Nocticula, Sifkesh, Xura, and Orcus, Abaraxas, and Haggenti are on the list at least...

The Harrow card corresponds to their highest ability score. It doesn't care if the PC has multiple ability scores that he likes, but if they're equal, then as the GM I would strive to ensure first and foremost that no two player characters got the same card, if possible. I would also look at the character in question and look at how the player plays the character and how the player describes the character, and make the decision there as to which of the equal ability scores is the more important. I would not involve the raw game mechanics. If a character built a fighter with an 18 Strength and an 18 Charisma, and described that character as a handsome guy and played that character as a suave smooth talker who enjoyed the party scene, I would give him the Charisma card.

Equal scores, in other words, do not mean that the scores are equally important to the character.

If having those feats are more important to you, and rule out playing a rogue or a fighter... then you'll need to dig for sword options, I guess. Or maybe consider playing a ninja instead.

Or talk to your GM about figuring out a way to play a monk with a sword. The best in-game option is to simply get your hands on a ki focus sword, I guess.

Yes, because the half-dragon template doesn't change anything about a creature's space or reach.

Would a god give items or outsider servants or a demiplane to a worshiper as a reward?

How do you deal with class balance criticisms? Are there any plans to make changes to classes that are commonly derided as weaker or stronger than the "norm"?

For example, people commonly complain about Monks and Rogues not doing enough damage, but these classes seem to be designed with a wide spread of abilities (generalists, I suppose?). Do you think classes like these, which might be sacrificing raw combat prowess for utility are less valued because of how the game is being played now as opposed to previously? Does this inform scenario/AP design at all? The classes that tend to be considered the strongest are specialists like the Summoner and Ninja; do you think this is due to an inflation in the perceived value of combat, or are these criticisms valid?

I feel that class balance criticisims are inherently flawed, because the classes are not meant to compete against each other and to do the same thing or to play the same way. I kinda feel like the whole "damage per round" arguments and class balance issues come out of the MMO tradition, frankly, which are designed with a VERY different philosophy and need than are RPGs. In those games, balancing healing vs. damage per round vs. tanking is something the game designers built into the game from the start, but taking that same type of "balance" theorycraft into pen and paper games is inappropriate.

I've played rogues before, and not only have they held their own in the party (which consisted of the classic fighter/arcane spellcaster/divine spellcaster/rogue combo for the most part), but they were fun to play the whole time. I really love how you have to play tactically with a rogue. If you play a rogue as a fighter, of COURSE you'll be disappointed. Likewise, if you play a wizard as a cleric or a monk as a paladin or a druid as a ninja. Each class does its own thing.

I think we're on the same page here, though I do sometimes wonder about the Ninja/Rogue comparisons, since the classes are so close.

Do you think that people are playing the game in a more "MMO-like" way that is creating negative perceptions of less "DPS" oriented classes? Are the Advanced Classes an adaptation for that playstyle, leaving the core classes for more "old school" game groups, then?

I think that those folks are playing the game differently than I do, and that's fine with me. The "right" way to play the game is the way that is the most fun to you, whoever you are.

The Advanced Class Guide classes are not adopting this style at all; they're simply filling out more class options and exploring a new genre of class, the "hybrid" class. If anything, its us trying out a variant solution for the multiclassing concern, I guess. It's not an attempt to rebalance classes to be things they'er not..

Although if you DO seek out advice there, keep an open mind and try not to get too frustrated if folks take a "you're playing the game wrong!" stance if they take issues with your ideas.

In my specific case?

0) Start sending articles and adventures in to Dungeon magazine as soon as you learn the magazine is being created, and get published in Dungeon #12 while you're still in high school.

1) Go to college and get a degree in English.

2) Move out of state to live locally to the game company you want to work at (I was either going to move to Lake Geneva and apply to TSR or to Seattle and apply to Wizards of the Coast... I chose WotC since the region was more aligned to my personality and because I do like living on the west coast and would not have lasted long without access to mountains and salt water).

3) Wait for Wizards to purchase D&D.

4) Sign up to the temp agency that assigns all of WotC's temps and contractors.

5) Get hired on as a permanent employee in the sales department at WotC once the Pokemon craze hits hard.

6) Write lots and lots and lots of articles for Dungeon and Dragon magazine.

7) Write lots of books and stuff for D&D,

8) Apply for editor and designer and developer positions in the magazine department and the RPG R&D department each time a job opens up.

9) Watch as WotC spins off the magazines to their own company, Paizo.

10) When one of Paizo's editors gets hired into WotC's RPG R&D department... a job that you also applied to but ended up being the second choice for... get called by Paizo's publisher and offered a job at Paizo as an editor because everyone there knows your work at writing for the magazines over the past several years.

11) Stick it out, regardless of how hard or desperate or dark the times get, and trust your co-workers and Lisa to carry things through the darkest of times to the good times ahead!

AKA: It takes dedication, obsession, proximity, time, contacts, and luck.

If someone can prove to us that they are a rock solid awesome editor, it doesn't really matter to us how they became a rock solid awesome editor. Getting a degree in English is the best way to prove that to us, since that not only tells us you went to school to do the job we are looking to hire you for, but it also tells us you have the drive and devotion and focus and dedication to actually GET the degree in the first place, which means you'll bring that same drive and devotion and focus and dedication to your work ethic here at Paizo.

Without a degree, it's a lot harder for you to prove that to us, but it's not impossible. Having a resume that shows you've worked for several years as a professional editor, either as a day job or via lots of freelancing on published products, would also show you have what it takes.

We'd also issue editing tests and do interviews that would also factor in.

Not everyone does. Some folks love them. I'm pretty fond of them myself, in fact. I think some folks don't like them because they increase the power level too much, or because they give players more options. You'd have to ask them, though.

On average, I'd say 45 to 50 hours a week. When I'm hunkering down in deadline mode, that expands up to 70 hours a week or more.

On freelance projects, I tend to spend about 15 hours a week. More if the deadline is really close.

What does hers look like?

It looks like a fancy palace bedroom suite.

So something along the lines of this picture?

Would it include things like an altar to Deskari, an arcane library and other things matching her interests/position? (For example, some of her treasures.)

If she were forced to retreat to it, perhaps by use of a wish or similar, in order to escape a fight she was losing, would you allow a plane shift (spell-like, which means no focus item is needed) or similar magic to "break in" and continue the battle? Or would you say that a sanctum can't be broken into except by extraordinarily powerful magic?

Makes sense. What if the character's highest scores don't reflect how they're played from a mechanical standpoint, like an Inquisitor who has a low Charisma stat, but plays as a persuader and leader due to their class features allowing them to use their high Wisdom modifier for skills like Diplomacy and whatnot?

Sure, but no windows. Or if there ARE windows... they'd lookout on Abyssal landscapes or the Worldwound.

It wouldn't include an altar, but would include things that she needs to do her magic, such as libraries and laboratories and prisoners/cages.

I would not allow plane shift to work to reach her domain without the proper focus, nor do I allow spell-like ability plane shifts to travel to rare or unusual planes. Getting into her sanctum should be a focus of an adventure in and of itself.

I'd pick the one I felt was right regardless. And without knowing the stats OR the character, it's a moot point really.

I see. Thank you for the insight. You seem to be more flexible than the AP book itself, actually.

Have you thought about trying to carry the amount of weight you lost on your shoulders to feel the full difference?

I was reading the artifacts and legends book wanted to ask

1)Is Saint Cuthbert a god on Golarion as Saint Cuthbert's Mace is in the game?

2)would a dragon willing serve a human without having to use a Orb of dragonkind?

3)Is there a way to release the good Elemental Lords from within the Moaning Diamond(Sairazul, the Crystalline Queen)and the Gasping
Pearl, the Garnet Brand, and the Untouchable Opal?

4)are there other Decks of Many Things besides the normal Deck of Many Things and the Harrow Deck of Many Things?
