To be accurate, we have identified places where life may be PLAUSIBLE, but we have yet to detect any actual sign of life. Big difference.
Let's keep this thread to questions and avoid nit-picking other posts; thanks! :-)

Is there a module or scenario on an undead planet (e.g. Eox) and where did the idea of Eox come from?

We've not set any adventures on Eox yet. The idea came from James Sutter, partially after seeing a picture of an undead astronaut somewhere and partially from his own inspiration on the concept of how an undead creature wouldn't be all that put off by being in outer space.

Not so much. There's some Mythos-friendly elements in Occult Adventures, but it's not the book to do full-on Lovecraftian stuff.
I think he was referring to the Mythic Adventures subrules rather than Mythos stuff.

Oh. Nope; even less of a chance of more Mythic options in fact.

Perhaps, perhaps not.

Zon-Kuthon's corruption did not come from the Lovecraftian mythos though.

Exactly, I meant things like, how do Psychic Magic users interact with Mythic Paths like Archmage or Hierophant?

That's not something we've really spent much time exploring. I'm not sure we will, either. Maybe some day. But not anytime soon.

I should hope so!

I asked because there seem to be a lot of "unrevealed" answers, which are totally your prerogative, as there's mystery stuff yet to be released you don't want to give away yet, but I'm wondering if you're willing to divulge stuff if it's approached correctly that otherwise wouldn't be told.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Realistically, how long do you see the current model of releases sustaining itself?

Do you think you'll hit a point, at least with the non-world books, where you'll reach all the stuff you can possibly put out? I mean, how many original classes, archetypes, etc, can there be that aren't rehashed versions of another? I don't personally think it will be for a quite a while, but I do wonder how much expansion the system can handle...not something much a bloat fear, but a curiosity as to how long a system can maintain "freshness" - there are old systems out there, but how many are still putting out new stuff? I'm curious how long you think it can keep going.

For that matter, given that you've stated time will never progress, how much detail will you be able to put into a world that is perpetually in the same time period? If you get too detailed, what is left for the players to explore and the GMs to define? But somehow you need to keep relevant materials publishing with time, no?

Does Taldor have any foreign relations with Vudra and Jalmeray? And if so what kind?

Since tieflings especially beastbrood ones are considerable untouchable in Vudrani society would they live in the Low caste district of Niswan or is there a untouchable slum district not listed (my thinking is that the Jalmerai would prefer that foreigners not see how they treat tieflings especially if those visitors were from Andoran!)

Are Andoran and Osirion enemies (since Andoran eagle knights despise the slave trade in Osirion)?

Does Andoran view Jalmeray with disgust due to it's caste system?

How old is Shalelu?

Another elfy question:

A topic I've seen on occasion on many fantasy boards relates to non-human maturity rates. While applicable to all nonhuman races with lifespans that continue well beyond the human norm, it's most pronounced in elves. Human starting age is listed as 15, though absolute minimum, by the book, is 16 for the most intuitive of classes. Golarian elves, by comparison, don't start adventuring until they're at least 114 years old, with most other fantasy games featuring a similar setup for mature elves.

The question people ask is, of course, do elves mature at a much slower rate than humans, spending half a century if not more going through puberty? Or do they mature at roughly the same rate, or only a little slower, but do not set out on adventure until they've received enough life experience? A mix of both?

(Feel free to clarify that your answer is personal preference instead of Golarian Canon, if need be. Or directing me to whatever supplement answers this question for me.)

Follow up questions depending on the above:
-In the event elves (And other nonhumans) mature at a much slower pace, is gestation also slowed down to any degree? (Odd question, I admit. And I'm assuming Elves aren't pregnant for 6 years or more, so it's not scaled back completely.)
-In the even Elves (And others) mature at the same rate as humans, why do they not adventure until over a century has passed, especially Forlorn elves, who seem like they'd take any excuse to start their adventuring life, and are not tied down by elven customs?

What happens if, say, a LE person is affected by a Helm of Opposite Alignment just before they die? Does Pharasma worry about deserved reward/punishment or is she more concerned about sending souls to the best fitting theme?

Whats the offical timeline of the Adventure Paths, the reason is that I'm hosting Mummies mask and I'd like to know where in the time line it would be under as I'd like to reference other adventures I've done with my friends, either as "Hear about so and so and their attacks on the ships in the inner sea" or "What about that weird crop of wintery land over there..."

That does, to a certain extent, matter. If the PCs take pains to hide their identities, they'll have an easer time of it avoiding some elements of the bad guys' reactions, but if they are more public, they'll gather more support and accolades from those looking for leaders to follow. Either way works; the AP supports both options.

In any event, whether or not the PCs kept their identities secret or not really doesn't matter all that much until the end of the 3rd adventure and the bulk of the 4th.

So a mysterious masked rebel would work with the AP?

How much would there be to in the regular ID?

Mr. Jacobs,

For RPGs like Pathfinder do you perfer to play in:

A game that emphasizes role-play over all other aspects of the game.

A game that combines all aspects of the game more or less equally.

Or something else (please give an example).

James,

if I may impose upon you, I have a somewhat specific question about holy symbols:

The equipment section in the CRB states that each religion has its own holy symbol and makes a distinction between holy and unholy symbols, which are used by clerics for positive channelling or negative channelling respectively. That gets somewhat confusing when it comes to neutral deities. Technically, a neutral cleric of Pharasma channelling positive energy would use a holy symbol, while another neutral cleric of Pharasma channelling negative energy would use an unholy symbol. I'm assuming that both symbols would depict Pharasma's spiral icon, but I wonder:
1) Would there be a discernible difference between both symbols?
2) Could cleric A (who channels positive energy, focusing more on the birth aspect of Pharasma's creed) use the unholy symbol of cleric B (who channels negative energy, emphasizing the death aspect of the Lady of Graves) to channel energy?

Much obliged!

All of that is more or less for the customers to tell us, not for us to tell you.

Personally, I hope it keeps going strong for a few more decades at least, because job hunting is lame.

And I'm not sure I ever said we'd NEVER progress the timeline. We don't currently. That could change. There's no plans to do so now though.

Yes, but nothing all that enormously significant.

The caste system in Vudra is not a duplicate of India's. There actually isn't an "Untouchable" caste there. We will have more to say about Vudra and tieflings soon enough though.

Not really.

Again... the caste system isn't the same as India's. In earlier books we may have hinted that it was, but that was not the intent. Vudra's caste system works differently. It's something we're revising and will have more info later in the year with Distant Shores and Inner Sea Races.

About as old as Merisiel.

Elves are more deliberate about their aging than humans. It's not something humans can ever really understand. But basically, an elf has a VERY long adolescence; they don't stay toddlers/kids that long. It's not something we've ever really explored well in print, alas. Not sure we ever will.

Gestation is not significantly slower, but they do get pregnant less often.

Elves DO adventure earlier, but they generally aren't equipped to learn significantly from it, and take their time doing it. Again. They're not human. They think and process things differently.

Frankly, I really wish we'd abandoned their overly long life cycles for Pathfinder because it makes them TOO different from humans. Or alternately, removed them as a player character race. Not a fan of that one. I'm just glad we let them sleep and have souls; two things other editions of the game denied them.

They'd likely end up being sent somewhere bad. It IS a cursed item, after all... and what's more harrowing a result of a curse than eternal damnation?

The differentiation between "holy" and "unholy" is semantic, in large part. Particularly in the case of a neutral religion. Frankly, I kinda wish we'd not use "unholy" at all. Or at the very least have 5 categories rather than 2 (holy/unholy) since there are 5 alignment categories.

1) No discernible difference.

2) Yes. Because the symbols would be identical.

Ah...sorry.

I explain my character concept is probably easier(as I have tried to think of other ways). My concept is a noblewoman who is secretly a Inquisitor of Calistria. She wears a mask because she would be easier recognized as Lady whatever(I have not picked a noble family yet). And to protect her family. What I am asking is how much opportunity would there be in the AP for the character to be Lady Whatever as oppose to her masked persona? Or is the AP not really up to that level of complexity?

I'm planning to integrate minions of Nurgal into the denizens of the Worldwound. We don't have a lot on how his worshipers work, so I figured I'd come to you. ^_^

1) How "militarized" are Nurgal's worshipers? Do they affect a more army-like demeanor than other demon cults?

2) How influential is his ancient prominence among the Azlanti among modern-day worshipers? Do they show more Azlanti influence in rituals/dress/etc., comparable to someone like, say, Zura (who was once an Azlanti queen)?

3) Would he want his followers to coordinate with the minions of Deskari and Baphomet, or ignore the others' struggles and focus on their own agendas?

4) Is there anything else you'd recommend? I'm not talking design work here (I know you hate that), just any off-the-cuff thoughts you have on this whole plan.

Thank you! ^_^

Hello,

I have noticed Lamashtu's deific obedience and the associated powers are different from her demonic obedience.

So, does it mean it is legal for a (probably fanatical) worshiper of Lamashtu to get both obedience and the benefit of both? Would he have to do both rituals each day to maintain them, or simply one is enough?

Also, I would like to ask, considering Nocticula and Desna both got away with killing demon lords, why didn't Lamashtu destroy Pazuzu personally? What is her plan to get rid of him (and vice versa)?

1) How do you write Variant Multi-Classing into a statblock?

2) Will the Hell's Rebels adventure path and upcoming Cheliax/Devil related supplements have anything in terms of feats, archetypes, and items that would be useful to players in Way of the Wicked (or any other campaign where the players are pro-Asmodeus)?

Yes. Absolutely. But in the meantime, that's more or less why we hired Mark Moreland in the first place. He's never really been able to serve as an on-staff continuity guy because until very recently we lacked the staff to allow that luxury. With our latest 3 developer hires, though, that's finally started to change.

He's not my assistant though... he's Paizo's assistant.

In part, that's up to the GM. Being one of Kintargo's nobles is absolutely a possibility, and depending on the family you choose, you might be able to something like this with ease or not. The Hell's Rebels Player's Guide will have more info, and your GM will have all the adventures at hand to know how to handle a concept like this, but it should work fine.

Nurgal isn't a demon lord we've done much with yet. In fact, the only reason he's in the game is because I needed a demon in the alphabet between Nocticula and Orcus so that Pazuzu would fall on a right hand page in Book of the Damned II so he could have art because I was still unsatisfied with the art we'd gotten for him in previous attempts.

1) They are definitely militarized, although there's not enough of these cultists in the Inner Sea Region to field an army. I suspect there probably are elsewhere in the world.

2) They've moved on from their Azlanti traditions.

3) Any option is possible; pick the one that feels the best for your favored story.

4) I'd consider making Nurgal into a subordinate demon lord to Deskari or Baphomet. It's not canon, of course, but it would make Nurgal's role more logical in the AP.

That's an unfortunate error that crept in; they SHOULD have been the same, but the fact that they ended up different is fine. A strict reading of the rules implies that, yes, you could get both Deific Obedience AND Demonic Obediance... but common sense would and should say otherwise. Let your GM make that call. If I were your GM I'd let you pick one or the other but not both.

The fact that Lamashtu hasn't slain Pazuzu yet is because of a reason that isn't yet revealed. A reason DOES exist and I've dropped hints on the reason here and there, and there IS something that it's building toward, but I'm not ready yet to reveal all of that.

2) Will the Hell's Rebels adventure path and upcoming Cheliax/Devil related supplements have anything in terms of feats, archetypes, and items that would be useful to players in Way of the Wicked (or any other campaign where the players are pro-Asmodeus)?

1) I likely would not use variant multi-classsing in an adventure at all, and have no plans to do so, and haven't even read the rules for it... so I don't know.

2) Not intentionally, but a creative GM should be able to figure something out since both Cheliax and Way of the Wicked draw from the same pool of inspiration—Asmodeus.

That's almost as legendary as the refugees from Atari coming up with the name Amiga so they'd be ahead of both Atari and Apple in the local phone book.

That's in fact a big part of why we called "Absalom" Absalom, so that it'd be appearing first in any mass list of Inner Sea Regions. And in fact, in any Bestiary, there's usually a dozen or so monsters that exist in the book for similar reasons.

Thank you for your answers.

Ah, I see. Without spoiling, does it have anything to do with the Misbegotten Prince and both demon lords' interest in Varisia and Sandpoint?

Also, I had forgotten to ask two questions: I've been trying to create a custom bad guy for an adventure, and I was wondered, can an antipaladin worship (and draw power from) the Abyss itself or does it have to worship a deity/demon lord in order to get powers?

And finally, can someone have both a Lilitu's profane pact and a succubus' profane gift at the same time? I ask because the Lilitu's definition says it works like a profane gift except for a few things, and both abilities are pretty similar.

Given how often you post, does your work day ever end?

The Misbegotten Prince and what's going on in Varisia is at the crux of the entire thing, yes. Those are more "symptoms" than actual causes though. When we DO do more with this, it will be in the context of that emerging plot thread, but the Sandpoint region is indeed at the heart of it all.

Antipaladins, like paladins, do not HAVE to worship a deity; nothing in their class abilities requires selecting a deity (unlike the cleric). That said, I'd probably venture that over 95% of both do worship deities. You can certainly have one who's a non-denominational worshiper of chaos and evil or of the Abyss. And of course, in your our your GM's campaign... they get to make that call, not me.

Yes, you can have both. Profane bonuses don't stack with each other, but the gifts granted by those two things do as long as they adjust different things. And, of course, as long as you can find a succubus and a lilitu who aren't jealous and don't mind "sharing." Which is probably a lot easier said than done.

That varies by person and by date and depends on the schedule. On a normal day, I am here from 11:00 AM to about 7:00 PM and eat lunch at my desk. Some days it goes from 11:00 to 8:00. During crunch time, it can extend to weekends or past midnight as needed.

For the most part, though, I personally REALLY try to limit it to 8 hour days these days.

Given the fact that one of my hobbies (gaming) is my job, it can be VERY difficult to keep the work day and the rest of the day separate. The line is really pretty blurry in a lot of ways.

What did you get me for my birthday? It's this Thursday in case you forgot.

My apologies if this has already been asked. I was not sure how to phrase a thread search.

How long, under good conditions (not necessarily the best but also not as many grand obstacles as occurred during the Jade Regent path) should it take to travel from Hongal to Karlsgard?

TIA
