There are tidbits that the esoteric order of the palatine eye had a role in defeating kazavon. I can not find any info on what that role is. By coincidence our group member who ran CotCT throne (which ended with us accidently releasing Kazavon...oops) is now starting book 5 of Carrion Crown and to connect the two APs would be nice.

My question is, how would you imagine the clerics, inquisitors and possibly paladins of a deity react to an alignment change? 4) What deity would you consider most firmly entrenched in their alignment, and least likely to change?
5) What deity would you consider to be most flexible with regards to their alignment, or would be in the most danger of an event such as what befell Zon-Kuthon?
6) What deity alignment shift would cause the most strife/concern to mortals? to other deities?
7) If you were building a campaign about the upheaval a deity alignment shift would cause, which god would you choose?

If a player were to put items in a chest, then cast Shrink Item on the chest, would it explode or would the items get shrunk along with the chest?
IANJ, but an encounter in Shadow in the Sky relies on that tactic being viable, i.e., shrinking a container so as to easily carry its contents.

Frankly, I think instating the policy of 'No rules questions, folks' as a response to that ominous 'get your house in order' thread was... kind of an overreaction.
There are many forumites (myself included) who liked to get an opinion on how the creative director was seeing the rules without intending to use the 'JJ said this, so your differing opinion must be ZOMGBADWRONG!!1!11' hammer.
Might I kindly ask you to return to giving out your personal opinion about how you think some things should be resolved?
Maybe someday, but I got pretty burned and annoyed by that thread and its repercussions here in-house. For now, I would like the in-depth complex rules questions to be posted over to the rules forums. If someone posts a rules question that I feel I can answer without it triggering a storm of miscommunications and posts about the house not being in order, I will, but otherwise... it's for the best for the big complex rules questions to be posted in the proper area of these boards where the Design Team can notice them and where the questions can be tagged by FAQ clicks.
It frustrates me too, but not as much as the alternative.

3rd: What Shelyn do if she came across a mortal who had fallen in love with a god?
In the case of a one-sided attraction, she'd either encourage the mortal to try to refocus that love on a fellow mortal, but if she thought there was a chance... she MIGHT try to play matchmaker.
She does take into consideration love that can end up bad, and tries NOT to encourage those situations, since that's not love. Love (at least, in the way that Shelyn represents it) requires two (or more) people, not one.

Perhaps the previous edition of the game, the one Shadow in the Sky was written for, had a more clearly-written shrink item spell? Or perhaps it was more poorly written?
In any event, if you want this tactic to work for your story, I don't see a problem with it as long as the total weight limit isn't exceeded.

No more "ask James questions" threads, please. One is quite enough. And feel free to ask rules questions here still, but do so knowing there's a chance I'll decide it is complex enough or worded in a way that it should be better served over on the rules boards.
1) A deity's alignment change is a HUGE event. On par, I would say, with an entire region exploding or the Pathfinders dissolving or Azlant rising. It'd be something that we'd build an entire Adventure Path about, and as such, the ramifications of it would require MONTHS to sort through. It's far too big a topic to tackle here, alas. It's a campaign-changing event on the highest scale, and not something we'd really want to do, I think, until we do a new edition of Golarion (something we don't currently have plans for).
2) See #1 above. I'd have to make decisions about how each deity reacted on a deity-by-deity basis.
3) Somewhat, yes.
4) Pharasma.
5) Nethys.
6) Any and all of them.
7) Nethys. Or maybe Gozreh.

Not to get on your nerves James, but, you seem to have a "If I don't want it at my table, nobody else can have it at their" kind of policy... or is it just your wording?
That's not my policy at all; that's reading an AWFUL lot into my posts that isn't there, in fact.
If anything, it's the reverse. If someone asks about something that's a rules interpretation, it's more like, "Here's how I do it at my table, that may or may not work for yours, but I strongly encourage you to make the right decision for your table."
Or if it's folks asking about Golarion content, it's, "Here's how it works in the official published canon for the world—if that's not to your liking, feel free to change it at your table."

We don't really do setting-neutral books, though. The rulebooks are the primary exception, and those focus (so far) mostly on rules, not world content.
And I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about in the "people have been asking for things that could go in a setting neutral book" anyway... more specific details, please?

Why was the Draugr only made CR2? And the Huecuva?
What CR is a Noble Salamander on Golarion?
Why there are so few Minotaurs in the Adventure Paths? There are zero as to now, only one minotaur skeleton I could find.
Thanks

Would it change your answer to know that the text of the spells is word-for-word the same from the SRD to the PRD? Or should the Gold Goblin heist (a mage shrinks a chest full of silver coins to steal it, if you don't remember) not have worked in Shadow in the Sky?
Honestly I can see an argument either way, but the fact that the spell was used in that way in a Paizo product was what indicated to me that it was kosher. Doesn't the fact that the spell is limited to 2 cubic feet per level and non-magical items only mitigate some of what players might try to get away with? In the other direction, a GM could get really pedantic: "You can shrink the chest but not the lock and hinges because they're made separately." "You can shrink a single card but not a deck of cards." "You can shrink the golden idol but not the gems set in it since they're multiple objects, and the value of the object is ruined when it all comes apart in the process."
Perhaps I'm just more used to restrictive GMs than to rules-lawyering players. :)

How much do you optimize or recommend your players to optimize their characters in your games?
(with optimization i mean mechanical optimization to become better at a certain role)
I pretty much optimize my NPCs and encounters to the exact extent you see in Adventure Paths or modules I've developed. I don't require optimization in my characters at all, and in fact I kind of prefer when they don't, and when they don't I tend to reward them more.

Cold Iron is apparently the "anti-magic" metal. The references to the special material mostly just say to increase the cost of the enhancement added to it (that's the simplified take), and that it's mined deep underground.
Where did the idea of cold iron being the anti-magic come from?
Mythology. Although it's not really anti-magic as much as it is anti-supernatural.

1. What gods do hobgoblins often worship? They don't seem the type to follow the barghest hero gods
2. does black tentacle require you cast it on a flat inanimate surface for it to work or can you cast it at a point in space or on a mobile object or person?
1) Typically archdevils or Asmodeus.
2) You can't cast it on a person or a carriage or something like that. If the mobile object was big enough, you could cast it on the object's surface probably.

Wow... Giant mosquito questions. Probably the mosquito in all cases because they're a lot tougher than those foes. The combination of bleed and Con damage tends to kill things fast.
The draugr and huecuva were made CR 2 because of designer choice and for the desire to have more low-level undead. You can toughen both up pretty easily by giving them class levels, of course.
There's not really such a thing as a "noble salamander" in Pathfinder. They only existed in 3rd edition because of a design choice that there should be four elemental-themed monsters that comprise a "lesser, medium, greater" triad of options. They chose to turn the salamander into one of these, and the xorn into one (neither monster had a tradition of this in previous games), then created the arrowhawk and the toijinada to fill in the holes for air and water. Since this was an untraditional choice, and since I prefer to bulk out the elemental monster selection by actually adding new monsters, we didn't bring over the tripartate versions of the salamander or the xorn. Or the toijinada when we eventaully updated it. We haven't updated the arrowhawk at all and probably won't. If you want a tougher salamander, the best bet is to either advance its Hit Dice, put the advanced template on it, or give it class levels. Or any combination of those. Which means it gets to be whatever CR you need it to be.
There are few minotaurs in Adventure Paths because few of our authors put them in, and because I'm not all that huge a fan of them, and because they don't have a significant role in the Inner Sea Region. If and when we do more about Iblydos, though, that'll change.

Nope; wouldn't change my answer other than to say that the spell needs to have a little bit more clarity to it... or the Gold Goblin heist needs a different plan. Frankly, the idea that you can shrink more than one item as long as they're all "themed together" is fine with me, be that a suit of armor (composed of different pieces of armor) or a bag of gold or a deck of cards.

I'm hoping that my character in Rob's Skull & Shackles game will eventually get a pet dinosaur for her ship.

In the thread about Golarion Artist Ando Salu you wrote:
(reprinting it here in full as I think people in this thread will be interested in what you wrote)
Hmmm... there was a little bit more about Andosalu in the book before I had to cut a sidebar about famous Magnimarians to make the words fit before I turned it over for development. Here it is, unedited and undeveloped (so there might be a few errors lurking in there, such as maybe some incorrect names—I think that the "Moon Phantoms" might be one such thing that changed...).
NINE FAMOUS MAGNIMARIANS
Magnimar has produced numerous famous heroes, renowned artists, and notorious villains during its relatively short lifespan to date. Listed below are ten of the most well-known, some of whom still live in the city.
1) Alcaydian Indros: Leader of the Korvosan adventuring band known as the Moon Phantoms, founder of Magnimar, and slayer of the Great Vydrarch.
2) Antholus Kaddren: Member of the Moon Phantoms, gave his life during the Battle of Charda when he turned Winterkiss’s monstrous minions back against her fleet.
3) Nyssalee Vanderale: Member of the Moon Phantoms, a silver-tongued woman whose charm played a significant role in securing Magnimar’s status as a significant trade port, and who defeated a Korvossan Prince in a public and infamous duel to help establish Magnimar’s independence from Korvosan influence.
4) Ordellia Whilwren: Member of the Moon Phantoms, cleric of Desna who helped forge peace with local Varisians during Magnimar’s first tumultuous years.
5) Aiten Aioldo Derexhi: Alcaydian Indros’s bodyguard, a man often called “the fifth phantom” for his bravery and support of the founding group’s heroics.
6) Cailyn and Romre Vanderale: Twin wizards and leaders of the Eyes of the Hawk, defeated the shriezyx uprising of 4623 AR.
7) Goren Andosalu: Infamous painter of masterpieces like “Andosalu’s Model,” “Midnight Sunrise,” and “Throwdown in Swynetown,” who went mad and burned several buildings around his studio in Keystone before fleeing the city—his rampage and assumed death have only made his paintings more valuable.
8) Vumeshki: Notorious alchemist and well-read eccentric poet who believed he’d discovered an alternate alchemical route to immortality that didn’t require the Sun Orchid Elixir; current whereabouts unknown.
9) Sir Aeryn Darvengian: Once the patriarch of the Darvengian aristocrats, his mass murder of his family and four Andoren dignitaries earned him a place in the Hells and local bedtime horror stories for life.
I am particularly interested in Vumeshki. What would be the reaction of the government of Thuvia to his statement?
- try to discredit the alchemist?- covert assassination?
- disregard it as "it hasn't be done so far, so it can't be done"?
- disregard it as "the market is large enough for a second provider"?
- some other option?

The character of Vumeshki is in fact one of the "catalysts" to the adventure I designed and ran for several of the editors and developers here at Paizo, in the Shadows under Sandpoint game. I don't want to reveal TOO much more here, since some day I'd like to actually tidy up that adventure and release it as a biggie-sized module, but Vumeshki's alternative route to immortality is not something that would lead to competition with the Sun Orchid Elixir and all that. In fact, he never achieved great enough success as an alchemist to even attract the notice of Thuvia at all—his primary legacy is his poetry.
Oh! And if you want to see a sample of Vumeshki's poetry, see page 5 of Lost Cities of Golarion. That entry and some other information in that first chapter (large portions of which were taken directly from my Shadows Under Sandpoint game) should give some pretty solid hints as to the nature of Vumeshki's sadly ill-informed theories about immortality...

Probably not. He's too much trouble.
The fact that magic caused the end of the world is a pretty hard PR hit for magic... there was a LOT of superstition and fear that Jatembe had to overcome. We've not detailed much more about that yet though.

Dear James Jacobs ... DICE TIME!
Roll 3d12 and answer the corresponding questions. If you roll the same number twice, reroll it. If all three dice turn up the same number on a single roll, reroll all the dice and ask me a question as well.
01—Why do you think that the d12 is so horribly underused in Dungeons and Dragons? Do you ever go out of your way to make more uses for this die, or do you abstain from it out of tradition?
02—Its no secret that one of Paizo's house specialties is monster creation. What do you think is the best monster ever to come out of Paizo Publishing? What about it makes it the best and why? This can be any monster that gained popularity because of Paizo; world-specific or not.
03—There's a lot of material that the mage's guild at the beach wouldn't let the public touch; stuff that's closed content. If they offered you, as the Creative Director, your pick of any one closed content monster in exchanged for one Paizo closed content monster, what would you want and what would you trade? Assuming you were allowed to trade whatever you wanted, of course.
04—Has the novelty of my dice-rolling questions worn off yet?
05—You accidentally break an hourglass of transfiguration (Artifacts and Legends, pg. 7) and get phased out of reality, only to be replaced by an alternative timeline version of yourself. What would this version of James Jacobs (if that's still your name!) look like?
06—Do you get to eat lunch with other Paizonians? What are the favored lunches of the following employees: Adam Daigle, James Stutter, Jason Bulhman, Lisa Stevens, Sean K Reynolds, and Wes Schneider. If you don't know the answer, make up a dish for each of them that sounds like it belongs in the Inner Sea Region for each of them instead.
07—What's the worse typo that you've ever made that made it into a published product? Care to share the story?
08—Have you ever played the card game described in the print harrow deck? Which card from the harrow deck of many things do you think would be the absolute worst one to pull from the deck in real life?
09—If you had were able to write one more book on Tian Xia, what would you want to explore in that region? Do you think the Campaign Setting books will ever explore topics like the Tian Xia races and nations again? Is it more likely, less likely, or just as likely that a new continent will be revisited before Tian Xia?

At the end of every Adventure Path, on the credits/legal text page, we "hide" a short phrase down at the bottom of the page. We've been doing this since Pathifnder #6, the last adventure of Rise of the Runelords.
Yup. I first discovered this in Carrion Crown much to my delight.

Are kobolds any different in the Mwangi Expanse and the Shackles than they are on the rest of Golarion?
Will kobolds ever claw their way out of obscurity and get their own land/kingdom/empire like the orcs of Belkzen? Likewise where would the ideal place for them be and what would it be like?
Can Kitsune and Ratfolk contract lycanthropy? Got a couple of them in my Crown of the Kobold King adventure and I suspect that Jeva is probably going to maul the party a bit by the end of the adventure (they didn't get the silver daggers). Given that Kitsune are shapechangers I'm not entirely sure how lycanthropy would affect them if at all, was thinking that it would adapt accomodate for the Ratfolk and become a wererat instead.
