It's pretty much obliterated and the "soulstuff" it was made of gets recycled.

Discussion about Baba Yaga on another thread put me in a mindset of thinking about the small amount of Russian writing that I have read.

James, have you ever read Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch, and New Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko?

-If so, what did you think of the books?

-If not, SHAME ON YOU! GO BUY THEM AND READ THEM NOW SO YOU CAN ANSWER MY QUESTION!!

-I mean, if not, why not?

-If you have not read them, (for what it's worth) I recommend them. They are a fun read. You could watch the movies too, but don't judge the books based on them.

One of the things about the books that I enjoyed was how Magicians and Witches, while very similar had very different means of gaining in power.

-Aaron

Haven't read them.

Because I saw the movies and the 2nd movie was terrilbe, I kinda gave up on the whole thing. I know that's probably unfair to the books... but it is what it is.

And because I'm not the one developing that Adventure Path anyway; that's Rob's baby.

And because I've got more books than I could ever read of my own I need to justify having bought before I branch out into unknown territory for me.

Arcane Archer is a prestige class, not an archetype. And that's that.

That is fair. AA is a fine prestige class.

Actually on that note. Are we going to see any new Prestige classes in the future?

I personally would love to see Exotic Weapon Master or a 'Legacy Weapon' style prestige class in the Ultimate Equipment.

Yup.

We have "Paths of Prestige" coming out in a month in fact—that book contains 30 new prestige classes.

For the most part, new prestige classes going forward will not appear in the rulebook line, though, but in our other books—and they'll be designed to fill in-world roles in Golarion. So the concepting would be something more like "We need a prestige class to represent this cult of demon worshiping pirates who are really good at hypnosis," and then build the class to fill that role, rather than one that exists specifically to hyperspecialize in a specific rules element.

Ultimate Equipment has ONLY equipment in there, by the way. No new rules for characters in the form of prestige classes or archetypes or anything like that.

It's pretty much obliterated and the "soulstuff" it was made of gets recycled.

Does this soulstuff become more outsiders or is it used as the basis for new mortal souls?

James, which would be better in a Pathfinder scenario, cybernetic dinosaurs or dinobots, with proper copyright and trademark permissions.

Neither.

1) The more robot parts you add to dinosaurs, the less cool they get.

2) The more robot parts you add to a Pathfinder Society scenario, which is the shortest and most slimmed down adventure product we do on the smallest adventure budget we have, the less likely we are to be able to do those robot parts' rules the justice they deserve.

Okay, robotics are out of the question. But what about hyper-intelligent psionic dinosaurs that keep humanoids, human, and demi-humans as servants and pets.

Still not really appropriate for a Golarion adventure since we don't have those in the world.

That's kinda unclear... but I suspect it gets recycled as new mortal souls. Or simply becomes part of the outer planes' reality. Or is absorbed or destroyed.

At a certain point, not saying what happens is important though.

Nope. If it were... then oni-spawn would probably start with a language like Giant or whatever their humanoid race analog would be.

No.

Grace has nothing to do with beauty. Grace is all about poise, how you carry yourself, balance, and the like.

You can be beautifully proportioned and super clumsy.

You can be ugly and super graceful.

Aasimars tend to be beautiful and graceful.

James, have you had a chance to look at the Fire Montain Games evil adventure path "Way of the Wicked"? If so, what do you think of it? And what do you think of the fact that Gary McBride seems to be managing this with only two people working on it, himself writing all the adventures and Michael Clarke doing all the artwork?

It's actually really quite nice. I grew up on the northern California coast, so the weather is actually pretty similar—there's actually about the same amount of rain, but the winters are quite a bit cooler.

But yeah... it feels a lot like a high-population northern California in a lot of ways. I quite like it!

Sorry that was a typo. Meant to say bind (as in planar binding).

Speaking of anti monks, WHY do Monks STILL have their two main class features COMPLETELY incompatible (Fast movement and Flurry, which is a full round action and you can't move during)?

Not important until we get to the Adventure Path or mega-adventure that builds upon this seed into something pretty significant.

AKA: I'm far from done with this particular storyline.

In time, it'll get more important. Maybe even sooner than you might think.

I think that's actually a fun combo. There's a barbarian/monk in "The Infernal Syndrome," an adventure I wrote the majority of, for example.

If a player wanted to go that route... I'd work with the player to figure things out. The best way would be to start in one class and then have an event during game play that gives the character a good in-game reason to switch classes, though. Unless the player just wanted a single level dip in one class, in which case the life-changing event that has a character changing from a savage roaring berserker into a contemplative graceful martial-artist (or vice versa) can happen as part of the PCs' background.

That's not at all what I said.

I actually think they're REALLY cool, and the way Patrick designed them (with some help from Jason and myself on some weird special attacks) is really neat.

The question was about the monster that's hardest for me to spell the name. That's got nothing to do with whether or not I'm a fan of a monster.

In any case.

Ah. Well... I'm pretty sure that there's nothing in planar binding or planar ally that says the outsider cannot be a native outsider. It just needs to be an outsider, so you can still call in oni or kami with the spell. And furthermore, the plain-old binding spell itself works on ANY creature.

Fast movement and flurry are NOT completely incompatible. In fact, I'd say they support each other quite well, since if a combat starts with foes being far away, it's the fast characters who will be able to reach the targets in melee first. The fact that monks move fast means that they'll get to the enemy first in most combats (often MUCH more quickly than heavily armored characters who are suffering movement penalties), which means they'll be able to make full attack actions more often in the combat.

Even then... a class needs multiple options. And those options don't always have to work all at the same time. Saying that flurry and fast movement are Completely Incompatible is kind of like saying evasion and sneak attack are incompatible, or spellcasting and channel energy are incompatible.

How is it decided who answears the questions in the 'Ask *(insert iconic name here)* all your questions here!' threads?

Actually, Planar Binding DOES require the target be on a another plane

Quote:
Casting this spell attempts a dangerous act: to lure a creature from another plane

It is one of those rules hidden in fluff text everyone hates.

James Jacobs wrote:

Evasion is a passive defensive ability and sneak attack is an active ability that activates off attack. While actually being in melee tends to reduce being targeted for AoE spells, it still pops in in situations like "use area of effect stuff to get rid of the invisible guy", "I'll take a 5 foot step outside of the flank and their threatened area, then cast an area of effect spell to hit them both" and while they don't lead into each other (as for example, a Ninja's Vanishing Trick and Sneak Attack do), nothing about it flat out stops you from using the other (as taking advantage of extended movement or flurry does).

As for spellcasting and CE: Without variant channeling for useful effects, they actually are (Damage quickly outpaces healing, especially 1d6*(CL/2). Channel Energy is always far behind average damage for one attack), and are never used inside of combat. No one cares because casting on its own is VERY powerful.

A weird question just to warn you:

In Golarion attractive outsiders are often summoned by lonely conjurers. Normally is this kind of action is frowned upon by most folks?

I would think yes.

With that in mind is a summoner using his Eidolon in a similar fashion just as looked down upon or looked down more?

Thinking of Eidolons:

Do unfettered eidolons still have until negative constitution until they are dead or sent back to the plane from whence they came?

Also, can unfettered eidolons heal on their own?

John Kretzer wrote:

It's kind of decided by whoever has the energy and talent to do so. And who's got the interest in doing so. And whether or not I'm okay with them representing the iconic in the first place, to a certain extent.

I'm not interested in getting into an argument about pedantics.

I'm just saying that many classes have powers that can't be used simultaneously, and the monk is no different.

Depends on the folk. Golarion is a lot more open-minded overall than Earth. (Not sure where we've said "attractive outsiders are often summoned by lonely conjurers" though...)

Unfettered eidolons are monsters, and thus follow monster rules, not eidolon rules. They can thus heal on their own. They fall unconscious at -1 hit points and die at hp equal to their Constitution. Whether or not they vanish back to their home plane depends on if they've been summoned to the spot or not.

The tricky thing right now isn't being able to pay for new salaries though. We can do that. The tricky thing is we're out of room, physically, to add new employees.
