I'm a bit out-of-sync, is it the next day already? Breakfast is being served; so I assume so. But I didn't realize that we had gone to bed.
Shakhan was on 9/16 before going to bed (sorry, the sheet isn't always up to date). If you have a cure-light to spare, that would be great before night time.
If it's OK with Megan, Cresston would have sung a cure light wounds onto Shakhan on the way to the nobles' manor.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

You clearly have a loving connection with the random number generator; keep it up! And thanks :D
Lol! Yes, it will be my 'new toy' for a while.
BTW, I'm winging my way to Ohio for business for three days tomorrow. It's likely my posts will be limited to 1 x day, and probably late in the day as I visit America's heartland.

Of course it's all right with me!
By the way, folks, I'm about to declare a level-up for you. I know Cresston's only just arrived but it makes life easier if you all go to second level at once. Does anyone object if he gets an unearned bump?
Cresston Kroft
I'm fine with it - we can consider it a "loan" and he must be awesome to pay it back :D
If by 'awesome', you mean provide over-the-top, silly rp, then it's covered! If you mean 'actual effectiveness in combat' ... well ... ummm , oh, look over there! Shiny!!!
[ooc] bluff check ... [/occ] 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 ...
Edit: Aww, I fail at convincing Shakhan of my uber battle might! I knew I should have disguised myself as an Ulfen skald ... :-p
Shakhan
nah don't worry about combat effectiveness - I think our party is well covered on the beat-down front, and our party is huge - so the boosting effects of the bard will go a long way of earning your martial keep.
Instead I'm looking forward to see the antics of our bard, he's been very entertaining already :D

I admit to being slightly confused...
First of all, in the storyline, I thought the wizard had the jewelry... lol. I had forgotten the paladin had put it in his pack.
Secondly, have we lost the rogue and cleric of Abadar?
Thirdly, are we leveling and if so when? :)
Thanks a bunch for any forthcoming clarity.

You may all advance yourselves to 2nd level. For hit points you may either take the chance of a roll OR take 1/2 your hit die (decide before rolling), in either case add any Constitution bonus that you have.
I expect you lot to keep track of your own stuff...
Hytogg
I forgot that the Paladin had taken back the jewelry as well...sorry...I guess Hytogg could have handed them from the Paladin to the Jeweler.
HP Roll 1d8 ⇒ 3
Oh well. Could have been worse. (NOTE: One thing I've done as a house rule is to allow everybody to roll two dice for HP and take the best. Still allows for a bad roll, but decreases the chances. I do the same thing for Cure spells...roll an additional die and take highest...Still keeps open the chance for bad things, but softens the bell curve a bit. Just something to consider, as it's one of my most popular house rules.
Will post upgraded Hytogg with his level of Cleric tonight.

You do know that rolling 2 and taking the best means the average HP will be quite a bit higher. Like if I roll once the average is 5.5 on a d10, but if you take the best of two its about 7.15.
What about roll two and take the average?
Shakhan
I think that his house-rule is intended to make the odds higher.
You could take the average of 2 rolls, or roll 3 times and take the mid-value.
Another decent rule I've seen is, that keeps things random but clearly sets apart the beef from the casters is:
d6: roll 1d6
d8: roll 1d6 + 2
d10: roll 1d6 + 4
d12: roll 1d6 + 6

Yeah. I know that was my intent. Still have a chance of rolling low, but over the course of time it doesn't make a big difference. At early levels when you need a boost it gives it to you, and at higher levels the damage is usually so high it really doesn't affect things too much.
Cresston Kroft
I'm a mathematician, 1/2 is one-half!
And yes, normal Con bonus to your hit points, I just said that so nobody would forget.
And should we include the +1 to hp (if we choose that rather than an extra skill point) if we take the level in our favored class?
OK, now for the roll ...
1d8 ⇒ 3
OK, that will make for 13 hp if we do not use the favored class rule or 15 hp if we do.
Cresston Kroft
We do play with favored class bonus rules; so you can still get those HP too. Alternatively, keep in mind that the APG gives human bards the option to know additional spells (though this isn't really relevant til you have at least level 2 spells).
Cool beans. I've updated Cresston -- only need to pick his next spell, then he's leveled!

Hello... sorry to inttrupt your thread... but I'm curious if there is some opening in this game? I've tried to be patient for Nightflier's game to spin up... but I'm not really sure its going to happen... as he's starting another game. I only came to the PFS board to play a version of this Adventure Path - "Curse of the Crimson Throne". So I'm really interested in joining if you have room?
I'd like to play This character Asherick.

Hello, Asherick.
If the players are OK with this, I will be happy to have you aboard.
Have you been following our game? If so, you'll see that the party has just met the Queen and are (hopefully) going to accept her commission to go to Citadel Volshyenek and help the Korvosan Guard maintain order.
The rest of the party are 2nd level, so I would like you to level up and we shall say that you have taken a temporary post with the Guard here in Castle Korvosa, having become friendly with Commander Ashan during your various social exploits in Korvosa.
Asherick Whiteplume
Greetings, Milady Megan.
I Thank you for you kind attention. I will begin reading the entire game thread so I will be up to date with the Game thus far.
If you have read any of my character then you know he fits right in working with the Korvosan Guard as his father was once a member of those proud defenders of Korvosa.
I will level Asherick up and be looking for you intro. How should I handle his equipment? Should I use the gold value for a 2nd level character?
I am eager to begin play!
Thank you again! :)
EDIT: Ok...just finished reading the OOC Discussion Thread in total.
On Hit points... Is there anyone opposed to me just taking the standard PFS - Organized Play hit point advancement for a paladin class? That would be 6 hit points per level... plus con bonus?
Megan Robertson
|
I read your character before making the suggestion as to where you are right now, Asherick!
Hit points I normally do as either roll'em or take one-half of your class die, choice to be made before rolling... and add Con bonus whichever way you choose.
Starting equipment, go with what is appropriate for level & class. Plus a Korvosan Guard uniform, you have been given the rank of Ensign (lowest rank of officer).
Asherick Whiteplume
Thank you ma'am. Sorry for my delay in posting... I've been frantically reading the previous posts in the IC thread... almost done and ready to post.
I also saw some discrepancies with my character and your character gen rules in your start-up post... he was build on more points for the game I was trying to get him into before. I believe his is correct now. The PF Core book says on page 399 on table 12-4: Character Wealth by level suggests 1,000 gold for a 2nd level character. Is this acceptable?
I will likely post sometime today - hopefully before noon.
Here in the United States I'm on Eastern Standard Time 7:38AM currently.
Asherick Whiteplume
Posted. Hope I did not take too many liberties with the flow of the story.
Asherick Whiteplume
Looks like I am available for posting! Snow has ...canceled my previous engagement for the morning. :)
Shakhan
Don't worry :) - you're welcome. Note that we're (currently at least) not over-posting all that much; so you're bound to be a post-of-fresh-air.
Oh, this caught me off-guard: when Megan says she allows health at half-dice. She really means half-dice. So "5" for a fighter - I mention this since most campaigns I know use the mathematical average half, rounded up. (So a fighter would be 5.5, rounded to 6.)
Asherick Whiteplume
Hey Megan ma'am, should Asherick discover a Harrow card somewhere in his gear at some point? There are as far as I know 9 cards in a Harrowing ... there were never that many characters in this game... there are some cards left over.
Just curious.
Asherick Whiteplume
You never know what might turn up, Master Whiteplume...
... sometimes it even surprises me :)
{Grin!} Ok, cool!
Asherick Whiteplume
Kinda slow at posting... or do you guys mostly post on the weekends?
Also I gots a question... the Harrow Deck... is there some chart that coincides it with a normal Tarot Deck or playing cards? Just wondered are their 54 different Harrow cards like a standard playing card deck... and are the rules and or procedures for doing a harrow reading published anywhere in Pathfinder material? You, Megan, obviously have found somewhere a electronic copy of some of the cards face artwork... unless that came with the module...
Just curious.

This has never been a fast posting game, but it does usually post every day or so. I think DM is having a busy real life, so things have slowed down a bit since conception...however once per day is actually pretty good on here. There aren't many games that consistently post faster.
As to your second question, one of the AP books had a chapter on the Harrow deck, which included the translation to a normal deck of cards with Jokers. The Harrow cards are available...or at least were. I know I have a set. Remember the AP books not only include the adventure, but much support material as well.

Harrow deck - plus occasional use of a scanner when they crop up in my online games.
There is a chapter about using a Harrow deck as part of your game in the AP book, if this is an area that interests you it might be worth getting hold of it - just stay outta the adventure section 'til we've finished it!
As for posting, I try to get in daily, but job-hunting has to come first, sorry. I swear I had more free time when I was working!

Hey this is Asherick... this is my base profile... this is off subject.
WOW! Megan Robertson! I did not realize you were one of the writers for "The Way of the Witch", that is a MOST EXCELLENT Sourcebook! :)
My gaming friends and I here believe it to be the best supplement on the culture and nature of Witches ever produced for the D & D setting! We pitched everything else associated with the concept and use it exclusively!
I think I posted something to the facebook link on your profile about it...but I'm a noob with facebook and don't know if you got it.
But anyways thank you... that is a great resource book... and the art is BEAUTIFUL!

This was my post {I don't think the whole post was taken for some reason, though I do know some of it was posted}:
WOW! Megan YOU Helped write the "Way of the Witch?" Sweet! That was an EXCELLENT BOOK!!! I'm proud to have it on my shelf!!! The art the source data... even all the clearly defined roles of the various kinds of witches was SUPERB!!! We used that book for a homebrew game near the end of it to define the young Half-elven 'Brown-witch'... wife a character of mine eventually happily married.
My character...
<SUNAMBER> {Sir} Alaerin ‘Summerhawke’-Winterblood - half{high}-elf ‘Elani’ [Immortal]/ male; Paragon: Half-Elf 3 / Fighter 2 / Wizard (Evoker} 5 /Swordsage 1 / Spellsword 4 / Eldritch Knight 5
His wife {played buy another player}
Saneechee’ Winterblood = half{high}-elf ‘Elani’ / female; Witch 6th / Brown Witch 8th
It was a very interesting couple role-playing as "San" always was tempering her heroic and self-sacrificing husband's tendancies to approach conflict with destructive traditional Wizardry 'fire' magics {his specialty} and dangerous sword skills.
But still she was strong and very determined and a capable spellcaster herself.
Was a ton of fun to play for its almost 5 year run!

I is here. Thanks for voting me onto the island.
Char is pretty much up to snuff.
Just need to do up the prepared spell lists. I will have that complete fairly early in the morning.
I haven't quite spent all gold. So if something is known to be needed, just let me know.
Is there some reason the gameplay tab is not at the top of the page? I was going to read up on what has happened so far, but I don't see it.
