You walk the half mile or so back to the beach. Once there your choices are simple east or west. In both directions the land rises swiftly to form cliffs. The Jeniver is gone now, the high tide last night must have swept her into the depths.

E-east? Gareth asks the others.

"Maybe see ships from on cliffs? Light fire? Get rescue?"

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

G-good idea.

Brugga turns to the east. "This way," she says and starts climbing cliffs. She'll be looking for a good vantage point from which to see ships and will start gathering up materials for a signal fire.

One night in, and Joao has several things in his head, wondering about various things related to the functioning of the camp. While he would normally be inclined to leave each to their own, he did have to admit that if some of them were non-functional when it came to helping the group survive, it brought their overall chances of survival down. So while it seemed that the majority of them knew how to manage things in the wilderness, he made it a point to keep an eye out specifically for things of medicinal interest, to the exclusion of the other things, trusting the others to be able to manage to navigate without his assistance.

Anything he found was cut neatly with a dagger and put into a large leaf that he had folded to be an impromptu container, since his pack was full and back at the camp.

You move eastwards along the cliffs keeping a weather eye for ships but see nothing on the horizon..as you move along Joao manages to find some healing herbs and berries all stuff that will help in future (+2 circumstance bonus for heal checks)

You make your way through the jungle following narrow game trails ..the going is hard and it takes you about two hours to cover a mile.. as you get towards noon and the hottest part of the day you begin to think about finding a place to rest up in the shade.Entering a small clearing you begin to prepare to rest when..two figures burst into the area.Men in tattered clothing and bearing light shields, scimitars which have seen better days and javelins..they scream wordlessly as they charge you

Tariro 17
Brugga 13
Gareth 6

remember only one action on a surprise round

Brugga unlimbers her greataxe while moving to engage the locals.

Female Human Druid 1

N'goka screams a reply to their aggressive posture, a wordless cry of challenge, and launches an arrow at the attacker on the left.

attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Redstripe trembles, but is unsure if he should also attack, and merely waits, hopping from foot to foot, impatiently.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth draws his great sword and readies to attack the locals.

Tariro quickly adorns herself in her magical protection (Casts Mage Armor) AC now 17 for the next hour)

The man on the left howls as N'goka's arrow sinks into his shoulder but he keeps charging forward his lips flecked with spittle his eyes red and staring. He swings his sword at Joao hitting him hard.Joao curses as the blade bites deep into his body

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

The second man rushes at Gareth but in his rush becomes unbalanced and his mighty swing misses.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Brugga and Gareth make ready to join the fray and Tariro swiftly gestures her body becoming covered with a shimmering layer of force.

Brugga calls upon the strength of her people and flies into her own barbaric rage. She moves if she has to and power attacks.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 - 1 = 15
Damage: 1d12 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 3 = 19

With the yelling and screaming going on, Joao reaches back to draw his mace from over his shoulder and advances forward with an intent look, to give Brugga some assistance in her attacking, aiding her with the ones that she was attacking. A rough estimate was also something he tried to glance around and get, but did not pay too much attention, focusing more on disabling their attackers.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth swings his sword with all of his strength, trying to drop the foe in one swing. Last thing he needs right now is to loose someone else.

Power Attack:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage:2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 6) + 9 = 16

Joao you are already engaged in melee...you were struck in the surprise round for 8 damage and made no post for that round.

Do you want to revise your action in that light remember drawing a weapon in melee brings an AoO

Draw a weapon No -

Actually drawing a weapon for some reason does not provoke an AoO according to RAW...never made sense to me...but that's what it says

Ah, so I was. Missed that.
Suprise Round (revised)

'Of course... Hit the guy with the really visible weapons', Joao thought as he tried to move with the attack, attempting to minimize the damage from being hit. The swing was still a serious one, he could tell, though. Stumbling back, he was surrounded by a gentle light, as he attempted to keep himself from being hit again.

Ok Top of round 1. Please remember to note which round you are posting for, it makes it easier for your aging and confused DM.

Female Human Druid 1

If necessary, N'goka takes a single step back, to avoid being within immediate striking range of her target, and unleashes a second arrow, preferably at a target that isn't already within melee combat with one of her companions.

longbow attack, not counting possible -4 if target is already in melee with someone 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

As she does, she also whistles for Redstripe to move forward and engage, and he does, choosing the closest of the charging men and attempting a single slash with the blade-like talons extending from the sides of his legs.

leg-spur 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
damage 1d6 ⇒ 2

N'goka misses with her arrow and redstripes claw barely misses as the man slides away from his claw. The Frothing madmen renew their attacks..

Vs Joao 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Vs Gareth 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

however both miss their targets.

Joao 17
Tariro 17
Brugga 13..Action taken
Gareth 6 .. Action taken

Tariro will attempt to position both men to catch in her burning hands. If not possible she will fry one of them.

Burning Hands (DC14)
1d4 ⇒ 3

Round 1

Joao could only guess that these two had been here for a while, if he was to make a snap assessment of their weapons and general mental state. If he had a choice, he would rather try to subdue one and see what information that they would be able to gather from them, but he was uncertain that it would be able to be managed. That did not mean that he did not try.

Taking a step out of the way and drawing a dagger from his hip, he started to work on trying to subdue one of them, which looked like a difficult prospect, given that he was trying to not get hit at the same time.
(AC18) Fighting Defensively and Dealing Nonlethal Damage 1d20 - 7 ⇒ (9) - 7 = 2

Joao moves back drawing his dagger and making an ineffectual attempt to attack his opponent.

Tariro swings her hands towards Garths attacker and a gout of flame engulfs his attacker who fails to evade them.

Brugga closes with Joao's opponent and her axe gleams in the sunlight as she sweeps it laterally towards him..it catches him in the midriff the keen edged blade almost slicing him in two.(taken to -12 in one go)

Gareth swings at his foe but misses cleanly

Round 2

Joao 17

Brugga 13

Female Human Druid 1

N'goka attempts to plug another arrow into one of the sun-touched men, attempting to adjust her aim with a muttered prayer, as both have engaged her companions in furious melee, and the rapid movements of so many bodies are frustrating.

In polyglot;
Horned Hunter, guide my aim!

longbow attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
longbow damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Redstripe, having closed into melee, cuts loose with a flurry of scythe-like leg talons and a snapping bite, accompanied by a somewhat humorous sounding 'honk' from the colorful crest-like structure atop his snout.

claw 1 attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
claw 2 attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
bite attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
claw 1 damage 1d6 ⇒ 2
claw 2 damage 1d6 ⇒ 6
bite damage 1d4 ⇒ 2

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Round 2

Damn! Gareth Mutters as he swings again.

Attack:
Melee Greatsword 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 /Damage 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13

ROUND 2:

Brugga moves up to the other madman, and if she can reach him in a move:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 1 = 10
Damage: 1d12 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 3 = 14

Round 2

With the number fo them that were present, Joao saw no need to go after the last standing man, instead looking around to see if there were any more just in case they were the vanguard. The nimbus of gentle light remained around him, and as time passed he seemed to be moving better and better, despite the wound that he was dealt scant seconds ago. He still kept one arm pressed to it, however.

Once the others subdued-- or killed, he was not set on either-- the last man, he was figuring that they could be tracked back to their camp, though their mental state and the state of their weapons did not lead him to think that they would find anything of significance. Attempting to communicate with them crossed his mind as well, but it was not a likely prospect.

N'goka shoots and her arrow slides in under the maniacs lower ribs. Redstripe claws ineffectually at the man then sinks his teeth into his leg

In reply he screams and hacks at Gareth again.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

This time the blow lands and Gareth feels the steel's bite however it doesn't seem to hit anything vital and the half orc is still able to function.

damage1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Joao stays out of the fight watching the events unfold as his wound knits together.

Tariro to post and then we should be able to finish this.

Tariro quickly steps to Joao's side; "Let me help you friend".

CLW 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 she will position herself so as to not draw an AoO while doing so

Refusing Tariro's offer was on his mind currently, as his wound was still healing, and he reached out to forestall the casting of the spell with a shake of his head, catching the halfling's hands. Unfortunately, the contact was what channeled the spell (as he understood it) and his wound quickly knit, fading as if it never were, including the faint pain in his foot from waking up on the beach the day before.

Joao was not ungrateful to her assistance, though he would have preferred that she have waited. Letting her hands go, he gave a gruff "Thank you", and looked to ongoing fight. His grasping of Tariro's hands left blood across them, perhaps looking a bit apologetic as he returned his attention to their surroundings, trying to discern where they came from.

As Tariro heals Joao Brugga takes another mighty swipe with her axe the madman moves to avoid it and in doing so is met by Gareths blade that fells him instantly.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

That was all of them right?

Hmm the last post didnt take my fight over comment.

FIGHT OVER!

Tariro steps forward to Gareth,"Here let me close that wound for you".

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 CLW

Is anyone else wounded?

Gareth turns a shade of red. No one has ever healed him before.T-t-t-thank-you...

A quick search of the bodies garners you the following.

2 red coral bracelets

2 broken scimitars

2 light wooden shields

6 javelins.

one of the men has a necklace made of humanoid fingerbones

Female Human Druid 1

Seeing the humanoid fingerbones, N'goka calls upon the spirits for guidance and examines the bodies of the fallen men for signs of kuru, or similar ailments that afflict the bodies of those who consume the flesh of their kin...

Guidance-assisted Heal check for overall health of the fallen (other than, yanno, big weapon holes and stuff) and specifically checking for signs of them being cannibals. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Brugga would like two or three of those javelins. Not being particularly well-versed in the polite customs of the south, Brugga lets people know this by grabbing three of them and storing them on her person.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

If no one minds, Gareth will take the last 3 javelins. All other loot has been added to the undivided loot, If we Identify/appraise anything, I will update as needed.

Of all the equipment that were on the bodies of the fallen, Joao was more intrigued by the bracelets that each had. He could not estimate their value, but just that they were wearing jewelry said something aqbout civilization, or at least a group. He started to look around for traces of their passing.

'Two is not enough to sustain anything', he thought to himself as he examined the places where they burst out from, trying to find a trail. Joao would rather find their camp than be surprised like that again. So while the others were examining and taking anything of use, he was walking the edges of the clearing, looking for any trails, and more herbs as he was before.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

P-perhaps I can help with that....

Track
Survival 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 tracking the ambusher's tracks.

Still a bit red and with an awkward smile, Gareth repeats himself.T-thanks...

Gareth is unable to determine the tracks of the deceased cannibals...N'goka having found distinct signs of the diseases incurred from that way of life on the body

Female Human Druid 1

N'goka frowns at her discovery. "These men were cannibals, we should take care with any further encounters."

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

If Gareth can use survival to attempt to find the tracks again, he does so, otherwise he waits to see what the others decided to do.

Survival 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Brugga frowns down on the men. "Brugga no think these men start as cannibals. Not good sign for food sources on island."

The a wolfish, nasty grin spreads across her face. "If no food here, maybe Aerys become useful after all!" She laughs heartily before realizing that perhaps her joke was not in the best of taste; her chuckles cut off raggedly.

As much as Aerys had annoyed Gareth, the thought of eating her we quite... disturbing.

You find shelter from the relentless heat..hours pass with barely a sound issuing from the jungle..and then aftermaybe three hours have passed the heat begins to lessen as clouds start scudding across the sky again..

You can move at half speed for those three hours but any real exertion will result in you having to test for fatigue..Gareth has found tracks..they lead back the way you came.
