Male Drow Ardent 2

"She has that effect on people."

Vernal's tone is suffused with family pride.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

"That's why I rarely listen to her."

"Only occasionally prod her into action."

Female Drow Wizard

"I have no interest in your tongue."

"Yet."

Horrid Whispers centred on I26. Attacks vs Will against Sz2, Sz4, and Sz1.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 101d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 141d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
On a hit - target is slowed and takes -2 penalty to attack rolls (se both). Aftereffect - target is knocked prone.
On a miss - The target is slowed and takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls until the end of my next turn.

The combined mental and fiery attacks destroy two more of the zombies and leave the third on it's back inside the sheets of fire that Santander's fury left behind.

The grimlock doesn't care that it's undead fodder have fallen, however. It roars a challenge back to Kevaras and attacks him with both of it's axes.

Grimlock is using Savage Strikes, it makes one attack with each axe and if both hit, it deals 5 continuing damage. Attack 1:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 and Attack 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11. And 2 misses!

However, Kevaras is able to fend off the flurry of attacks from his wild foe, the axe swings being dodged and deflected.

Male Drow Ardent 2

Vernal drifts towards the grimlock, knife spinning in his long fingers.

"Axes? Such a waste of energy I always think. Don't tell Corpus. Watch the pretty knife blade and don't take your eyes off it until I say "smile"."

Metal glitters as Vernal stabs.

"And ... smile! This will hurt a lot."

Move to I21
Psionic Shield (AC). Augment 2. On each ally within 5 squares gets +2 bonus to all defenses to end Vernal's next turn. Which is everyone.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11

Vernal's knife scores and drives deep into the grimlock, and the thing roars angrily.

The last zombie rises and moves towards Corpus.

SZ1 uses a move action to rise and another to move to H25, no attacks from it.

The shadowy spined creature slips back a little bit, then a number of spines rip from it's back, rise into the air and fall back to the ground in a hail of sharp, needle-like, projectiles.

Shadow Porcupine shifts to K19 and uses Quill Burst. The attack catches everyone except Ovid, Malize, and itself, including the zombie and grimlock. Attack rolls vs AC: Kevaras: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23, Vernal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19, Grimlock: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16, Santander: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11, Corpus: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8, and the zombie: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17. On hit: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 necrotic damage.

Some of the quills fall onto the zombie, but the creature does not seem bothered by them. The grimlock, however, screams in even more pain.

Vernal shakes irriating quills out of himself. Yes, that hits him.

"Keep the scars for the shadar-kai, if you please."

Male Shadar-Kai Monk 2

Ovid dodges past the grimlock and knocks the porcupine back towards the entrance.

Five Storms: Move: Shift to J19, attack(vs Reflex, close burst 1 vs ShP and G), 4 damage and slide porcupine to K20 if either hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 131d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Female Drow Wizard

"My brothers, please cease comparing your weapons. Whilst amusing as a substitute for your inadequacies with other weapons, it grows tiresome."

Male Drow Ardent 2

"Sweeting, you're not in a position to judge. So far."

Female Drow Wizard

"Please, do not force me to kill you for your temerity and disgusting asides. Mother would make me pay for the funeral."

Male Drow Ardent 2

"So touchy. What can you have thought I meant?"

Ovid finishes off the shadowy creature and it's body turns to a sort of oil and seeps into the floor. The grimlock is not hit, and roars it's defiance as it stands amidst the group.

Note that Malize has gone off to London for the weekend on his stag night. You may want to delay her.

Or NPC her. Thanks, though, Vernal for the heads up.

Malize stays put and once more attacks the mind of the grimlock. She tries to bring the fears of the creature to life.

Nightmare Eruption on the poor grimlock. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23. Hit for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Whatever fears the last enemy had overwhelm it and it falls to the ground, dead.

Out of combat. Gain 165 xp, bringing all to 315. There's not much loot on these enemies. Shields and scimitars on the zombies, and twin battleaxes on the grimlock. One of his battleaxe's is a +1 battleaxe.

As the sounds of your own battle fade away once more, you can hear the sounds of fighting in Gateway, a mile or so away. You can't see any of the details from here, but the sounds of screams, and magic and metal on metal echo down the passageway.

The power of the temple seems to be waking as the carnage occurs inside it, and all of you feel a warmth pass through you. Feeling fresher, you prepare for your own next defense.

All are back to full hp, no surges expended. One more wave. Skill challenge time, once more. Be as creative as you like - we won't start the combat until at least Monday, so that Malize can get back us.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Corpus will take the axe and clean it, "Could be of dwarven make, definitely not goblin."

Male Drow Protecting Paladin 14 / Hospitaler

Kevaras rolls the barrel over to K20 so that it lies directly underneath the window, its length parallel to the wall.

With a grin he points to the barrel and says, "A door prize for the next guest coming through the window."

Starting square J21.
Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Kevaras is currently at:
AC 20; Fort 13 Ref 14 Will 15
30/30 hp
Surges: 8/12
Lay on Hands 1 of 2
AP: 1
Conditions: none

Male Drow Ardent 2

Vernal saunters over and cuts off the grimlock's head.

"Why bother with scaring the opposition when we can use them to scare themselves?"

He arranges the face into a truly horrible expression and rolls it down the hallway towards any oncoming foes.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 - Intimidate

Male Shadar-Kai Monk 2

"Hey, one of you give me a hand with this?" Ovid begins moving one of the pews towards the hole in the wall, trying to block the door.

Athletics, possibly Aid Another if someone does better than me: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male Drow Protecting Paladin 14 / Hospitaler

Since it's a skill challenge I guess I should roll something.

Rigging the barrel as a makeshift trap would require Thievery right?

1d20 - 3 ⇒ (20) - 3 = 17

Vernal's down hill head rolling likely got the enemies attention.

Keveras moves the Barrel to the broken window and Ovid starts to struggle with a pew.

Init for's Vernal and Ovid, and a square for Vernal. Ovid's may well be determined by if anyone aids him. Actions, etc, for the rest of you as well.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Put me at J25.

Init. = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Male Hobgoblin Cosmic Sorcerer 2

Santander comes to Ovid's aid as he sees the shadar-kai struggle with the solid wooden pew.

Athletics Check, 1d20+5=21
Initiative Check, 1d20+3=10

Male Drow Ardent 2

Back to G25, doing a bit more knife twirling.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 - init roll.

Male Drow Ardent 2

Using one surge to get back to 21hp. Does anyone need a buffed up heal? Vernal's got two going spare.

Male Shadar-Kai Monk 2

"Thanks."

Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Vernal, we got a random heal from the church itself. Maybe it has a genius loci or something.

Santander could use one of your spares

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Forgot to mention that i spent 2 HS to get back up to full HP.

HP: 31/31
Surges: 7/12
AP: 2/2

Male Drow Ardent 2

Ah, forgot about the church heal. That's useful.

Vernal blows a slightly disturbing kiss in Santander's direction. Despite the dubious delivery method, the hobgoblin feels oddly revived.

Surge plus 1d6 ⇒ 1. Ah. Less than awesome, still that 1hp may make a difference.

To repeat my earlier statement:

All are back to full hp, no surges expended.

So, neither Vernal or Corpus spent surges. Or any heals, or anything.

So, we need an action, location and init from Malize. Corpus can also take an action if he desires.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

HP: 31/31
Surges: 9/12
AP: 2/2

I'm cool.

Male Drow Ardent 2

Aww. No excuse to throw a disturbing kiss Santander's way. I missed that completely, despite Ovid pointing it out. Obviously having a fluff-brained day.

DM

Spoiler:
Amy, you may have missed that Ghetto's Ravenloft is back in action.

Female Drow Wizard

G16. History check.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Malize tries to remember any stories she has heard of such places of power, and searches for any glyphs, bas-reliefs or other such clues.

Malize recalls legends she read about this temple. It was supposedly dedicated to some entity allied with the Primodials before the Dawn War. Your lessons never told anything about the name of the entity, or what sort of creature it was.

Feel free to roll a search check, and an init, please.

Female Drow Wizard

Init; Perception
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 101d20 ⇒ 20

Malize has a more intense look.

With her study, Malize finds a series of runed cleverly worked into the floor, and, likely the altar as well, though she can't tell from where she is. She thinks she might be able to trigger them, though she has no idea of what the effect of that will be.

However, before she can try, the enemy arrives.

Santander yells a brief warning as a quartet of appears mere feet from the doorway, but they are moving quickly, even faster then Ovid.

The first in the temple is a drow, hand crossbow in hand.

He darts inside the place, though Vernal and Santander can attack him as he passes. Once within, he shoots a hand crossbow at Vernal.

OAs may be made by Vernal and Santander against the Drow Shadowblade. Attack against Vernal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16. Hit for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

The bolt just grazes Vernal, and shatters against the wall, and another drow is darting within, holding two long knives, much like Vernal does.

One more OA from Vernal and Santander vs the Drow Shadowhunter.

He slides around the hobgoblin, and attacks Corpus, and, it tries to cover him in darkfire as well.

Darkfire, targeting reflex. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7. Darkfire misses, longknife attack. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Corpus, with long experience at skirmishing with fellow drow, resists the darkfire and easily avoids the knife.

"You whelps have delayed me entirely too long. This temple will die, and you with it."

The words are spoken by a female Shadar Kai, and she aims a rod at Santander. "You first, vermin." Santander feels darkness settle over him, tugging at his mind, and then energy fires from her rod at him.

Myrissa uses warlocks curse on Santander, then attacks with Spiteful Glamour, vs will. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23. It hits for 1d8 + 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (7) + (2) + 3 = 12 Psychic damage.

The mental attack rips into the hobgoblin. The fourth enemy, some sort of undead, has yet to move closer.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 v Drow Shadowhunter
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Deprived of his smile, and disgruntled by the appearance of another knife-wielding drow, Vernal is noticeably less effective.

"So energetic. I really can't be bothered with you."

Ovid dodges around Corpus and attacks the drow in a flurry of blows.

Five Storms: Shift to I23(I think I can shift through Corpus' square) and attack(vs Reflex, close burst 1 vs Shb and Sdh): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 71d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 141d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Vernal scores on the Shadowblade as it moves past him, but misses the hunter. The two drow are too nimble for Ovid, and his attack misses both.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Crit - amazingly. 18 damage to the shadowblade and everyone except Malize and Vernal himself gets a +2 bonus to all defenses to end his next turn.

"This is a family party. I don't believe your names were on the invitiation list."

Vernal's blade spins hypnotically and twists under the rib cage of the shadowblade. As he smiles gently, he adds,

"Of course, in our case, "family" can mean many things."

Vernal's blade sinks onto the shadowblade's back and he cries out in agony. The rest of the group feels the energy from Vernal's shield wrapping over them.

Corpus will duel strike the drow in front of him.

1st attack vs ac, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12, damage = 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
2nd attack vs ac, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20, damage = 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Male Hobgoblin Cosmic Sorcerer 2

OA vs. Shadowblade, 1d20+5=12, 1d6+3=5 damage
OA vs. Shadowhunter, 1d20+5=11, 1d6+3=5 damage

Shadowhunter takes 3 damage from Phase of the Sun - At the start of your turn, each enemy adjacent to you takes fire and radiant damage equal to your Strength modifier.

Move Action - Shift to J25

Provoke an OA by using Arcing Fire, 1d20+4=21 vs Shadowblade Ref, 1d8+7=8 fire damage and any enemy providing the target cover against this attack (Shadowhunter)takes 4 fire damage.

Santander's attacks are ineffective as the drow race past him. Corpus fares slightly better. While one of his axes misses, the other one hits the drow shadowhunter, slightly wounding it.

The the fourth enemy figure moves. It's not alive, it is a skeleton dressed in ragged armor and carrying a greataxe. And it doesn't walk, it just appears in front of Myrissa and swings at Santander.

Santander has +4 AC against the attack, 2 from Vernal's power and 2 from the bench. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

The axe slams into the pew, and wood shards fly everywhere, but the hobgoblin is fine. His own power burns the shadowhunter and the skeleton, though not badly. As he steps back and starts to cast, the hunter stabs with his dagger.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12.

However, the blade misses and flames shoot out from Santander. While they are an inconvenience to the hunter, the shadowblade is badly hurt.

Santander had nice luck that round!

Kevaras hopes to goad Myrissa into launching into a villainous monologue, thus revealing her ruinous plan.

Free Action – Intimidate 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

He says, "I highly doubt the likes of you could devise a sound strategy."

While pointing at the carnage of corpses strewn around the temple, "If this was your plan, perhaps you should consider a new line of work."
