Paging Malize. Baddies need arcane blasting. :)

Female Drow Wizard

Force orb vs Shadowblade.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
A miss, I take it.

Malize conjures an orb of force and sends it flying towards the enemy ranks.

Malize's orb misses the shadowblade and impacts on the wall of the temple.

Kevaras aims Darkfire at the Shadowhunter.

Minor Action – Reflex 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 and on hit, all attacks against the Shadowhunter have combat advantage, and it cannot benefit from invisibility or concealment until Kevaras' EONT.

Move Action – Move sideways to G20.

Standard Action – Charge to G22 and using Ardent Strike in place of a melee basic attack.

AC 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 = 16 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 damage. On hit, the Shadowblade is under divine sanction.

Kevaras is currently at:
AC 20; Fort 13 Ref 14 Will 15 (defences +2 until Vernal EOT)
30/30 hp
Surges: 8/12
Lay on Hands 1 of 2
AP: 1
Conditions: none

Kevaras calls on his heritage and flames outline the Shadowhunter. He then charges and cuts down the shadowblade.

You could have charged from where you were had you wanted to.

Even as the drow falls, things move through the back wall. They look like small men made of rocks and they move towards the party.

The shadowhunter grins at Corpus. "Let's kill you again, shall we?" and he attacks with both of his blades.

Double attack vs. Corpus. Two dagger attacks. Attack 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 and attack 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23. One hit: 1d6 ⇒ 5.

Only one of the daggers hit and it draws a line of blood.

Myrissa ducks around her guardian and weaves her curse onto Vernal. Then, as she did to Santander, she attacks Vernal's mind.

Spiteful Glamour against Vernal, targets will. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21. Hit for 1d8 + 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + (3) + 3 = 11 psychic damage.

"Don't think you're getting out of this without a few bruises, lady!" Ovid ducks past the drow and stabs at the warlock.

Open The Gates of Battle: Move to H24(ignore OA from Sdh) and attack(vs Reflex)(4 damage and slide her to F24 if hit): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 153d10 + 5 ⇒ (4, 1, 3) + 5 = 13

Male Drow Ardent 2

Mental Turmoil (AC). Hit: target takes a penalty to attack rolls equal to your Wisdom modifier (+2) (save ends).
Miss: Half damage, and the target takes a penalty to attack rolls equal to half your Wisdom modifier (+2)(save ends).
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10

Effect: Until the end of the encounter, whenever the target misses with a melee attack, you or one ally adjacent to you gains temporary hit points equal to 5 + one-half your level.

Vernals smile returns full measure and he gives his attention to Myrissa, stepping towards her and looking her critically up and down.

"You know nothing about family life do you? Malize would never have let you survive this long, and I don't really see why we should bother either."

Myrissa slaps Ovid's spear the the side with her rod casually. Vernal's attack seems to have some effect, but not as much as the drow thinks it should have.

That's true, though I would have had to go directly to the nearest square and I wanted to cover the western flank.

Amelia wrote:

Kevaras shakes his head, "You can't win, Derf. If you strike him down, he shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine!"

Male Drow Ardent 2

Does the lovely lady not take the penalty to her attack rolls? Bum.

Vernal DeWynter wrote:

Yes, she does. The penalty is listed next to her name.

Male Drow Ardent 2

Ironically, I mixed her up with Malize.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Use Weapon Master's Strike on Sdh.
Attack vs ac, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27, damage = 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Edit: Crit damage = 20HP + any extra from magic battleaxe Corpus picked up.

It's just a +1 battleaxe, so extra 1d6 ⇒ 4 on a crit..

Corpus unleashes a powerful blow that removes one of the drow's male's arms. The man stands, still, barely, screaming loudly.

The screams don't bother any of his allies, though, and the Dread Protector steps up, and swings his greataxe at Ovid.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Miss.

However, the axe barely misses the monk.

Shadowhunter takes 3 fire and radiant damage from Phase of the Sun - At the start of your turn, each enemy adjacent to you takes fire and radiant damage equal to your Strength modifier.

Move Action - Shift to K24

Arcing Fire, 1d20+4=12 vs Myrissa Reflex, 1d8+7=14 fire damage and any enemy providing the target cover against this attack, Drow Shadowhunter and Dread Protector take 4 fire damage each.

"You are pathetic." Myrissa spits out as the fire rips past her. The skeletal guardian of the warlock takes a little damage, and the drow falls, finished by the residual fires of the hobgoblin.

Just a heads up, "any enemy providing the target cover against this attack, Drow Shadowhunter and Dread Protector take 4 fire damage each" is under the "hit" section of the power, so they don't take any damage if the attack missed Myrissa.

Male Drow Protecting Paladin 14 / Hospitaler

Noticing the earth elementals, Kevaras signals to Corpus using Drow sign language asking,

"How do you want to handle the two groups of enemies?"

Heh, I'll still let the drow die, he was so low that it's no biggie, but the dread protector will get his 4 back.

With a prayer to the Raven Queen, Kevaras is bathed in divine radiance. He moves to G24 and attacks the Dread Protector.

Majestic Halo 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 vs AC for 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 3, 3) + 5 = 13 radiant damage, miss for half.

Until the end of the encounter, any enemy that starts its turn adjacent to Kevaras is subject to divine sanction until the end of its turn.

*Poke* Malize, wanna zap something :)

Female Drow Wizard

Sorry; board software didn't tell me there were updates. Attack Myrissa with Nightmare Eruption
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Darkfire vs Myrissa
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

OK, Action Point - Chilling CLoud centred on Myrissa vs her Fort and that of DP.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
On a hit, they each take 4 cold damage. Effect - any enemy in the area takes -2 to attack rolls.

Malize spits out a string of arcane syllables, sending energy hurtling around.

Bah, first post got eaten part way through. Starting over.

Malize creates an impressive flurry of magical activity, but, in the end, all she does is line Myrissa in darkfire, and leave that residual field of cold.

Kevaras, however, moves forward and strikes hard at the Dread Protector. The skeleton is looking battered, but it is up.

The elementals reach the fray as well. One swings at Malize, missing badly, but the other reaches and lifts up the barrel.

Myrissa grins and ducks behind the skeletal guard of hers. Her power flickers out, spreading her curse over Kevaras, and then foul whispers attack his mind. After that, her dark magics spread over Corpus as well.

She shifts to H26, curses Kevaras and uses Spiteful Glamour, vs will, on him, and she's at -2 on her roll from Malize's zone. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10. She then uses an AP to curse Corpus.

Her attack has no effect, but she does not seem to worry.

I forgot her other penalty, so she was at -4 and missed worse. Save: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Ovid's attack is focused and effective. Myrissa seems to be in very good shape still, amused, and perhaps enjoying, the fight. The skeleton is still up and very battered.

Male Drow Ardent 2

Vernal briefly takes in the situation and decides to take advantage of Malize's darkfire.

Shift to F24.
Energizing Strike (AC) on Myrissa. On hit, whoever of Corpus, Ovid, Kevaras or Santander is most in need of them gets 4 temp hp.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

"Take another scar for your collection," he purrs sweetly.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Corpus is ok on HP.

Shift to I24 and use Duel Strike on the dread Protector.

Main hand, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10, damage = 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Off hand, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14, damage = 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

"Whould you shut up and go back to your grave."

Vernal's attack scores, though, the Dread Protector interposes itself to take part of the blow.

"Ohh, I like scars." Myrissa purrs back.

Corpus' flurry of axe attacks are wide of thier mark, however, and the skeleton swings back at him.

Greataxe attack vs Corpus. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Like Corpus, the skeleton also misses as the Revenant ducks away from the larger axe.

Dazzling Ray, 1d20+4=17 vs Myrissa Will, 6d6+7=24 radiant damage

Santander moves across the chapel, to get a better line of fire towards Myrissa, then unleashes his most powerful magic upon her.

Santander's blast catches Myrissa, though, again, the Dread Protector takes part of the blast and the skeleton is shattered. Myrissa, though, smirks even though she seems to be in a very bad position indeed.

Cloud of Darkness centred on F15. Move to H21 (taking an OA, but he'll be blinded). Horrid Whispers vs Myrissa's Will
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
On a miss - no damage, but target is slowed and takes a -2 penalty to attacks.

"Laugh this off, b%@$@." Malize muttters as she sends spectral voices to plague the other drow.

Male Drow Protecting Paladin 14 / Hospitaler

Kevaras continues the onslaught, with Virtuous Strike.

AC 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 radiant damage.

Malize lays down a cloud of darkness to escape from the elemental, but the creature is not hindered by not being able to see. It swings a rocky fist at Malize as she scampers off.

It has tremorsense, so the cloud of darkness penalty is negated. You do, however, have +2 ac from bench cover. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

The fist only shatters more wood as Malize nimbly moves off and plages Myrissa's mind with her spell.

Kevaras' attack also misses the Shadar-Kai and she laughs. "It's been fun, children, but it's time for me to go! Not without a parting gift, though."

The first elemental emerges from the darkness in pursuit of Malize.

Fist: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

However, once more it misses. The second elemetal ignore the fight, carrying the barrel towards the altar.

Myrissa steps into the shadow and appears on the far side of the bench barrier at the doorway. She spreads her curse to Ovid, and then pulls power through the curse.

She is using Cursebite, It's a close burst 20, and will affect everyone under her curse. It attacks Fort, and she is at -2 to hit, thanks to Malize. Malize is the only one not attacked by it, as she is not yet cursed. Rolls vs:

Kevaras: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Ovid: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Vernal:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Corpus:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13; and
Santander:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Ovid, Vernal, and Santander are struck for 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 7) + 3 = 14 necrotic damage each.

-1 and dying. Which isn't great as he's your healer ... oops.

Male Hobgoblin Cosmic Sorcerer 2

The large Hobgoblin Sorcerer also drops.
0/26 HP

Female Drow Wizard

Bloody hell.

Malize snarls, "Agh! Idiot men!" as she watches the rest of the party keel over.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Corpus is bloodied.

Male Shadar-Kai Monk 2

I'm bloodied too. Specifically, 9/23 HP. Cursebite is deadly when the people your using it on have around 24 HP.

Ovid pauses to catch his breath and grins. "Now where do you think you're going?" Ovid dodges around the pew and kicks the woman back towards Corpus' axes.

Second Wind(14/23 HP and +2 to all defenses, no longer Bloodied), spend an AP and use Dancing Cobra, move to H27, provoking an OA from Myrissa, and attack(vs Reflex, 2 more damage if she tries to make an OA on me this turn)(Flurry of Blows, 4 damage and slide her to H26): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 161d10 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Ovid's AP action might need to be adjusted since...

As two of her foes fall, Myrissa teleports down the hill side, calling on the powers that she has sworn herself too. She blows a kiss towards the defenders of the temple.

She gets two teleports, ending in concealment in I34. Ovid can adjust the AP action if he chooses to.

There is one enormous drawback to Ardents. They have no ranged options whatever at level 1. This is a bit rubbish really as they feel as if they ought to be second line of defense rather than front liners. If Vernal survives, I may take another look at him and see where I've gone wrong with the build, with Amy's permission.

I would not worry much about survival. But, yes, everyone can always re-look at build. There may not be any issues, though, except for that lack of ranged powers. This last fight has been deliberately hard, I wanted it to feel difficult after all, and the Dread Protector worked very well. They are sweet monsters, even if it did never hit. I do want to give the game a danger feel - it is the Underdark, after all. There should always be a tenseness to a battle. That said, it's very unlikely anyone will die in this fight.

Male Shadar-Kai Monk 2

Fortunately I have Move 8 thanks to Dancing Cobra. Move to H33, slide her to I33 if I hit. Corpus, deal with EE1. Kevaras, stabilize some people. Malize, stop EE2 before it blows something up. Or, you know what, just blow it up. I'll handle the warlock until you all get done in there.

EDIT: Yeah, there's a reason Otto uses a halbred in Sleeper. Ardents give out great buffs, but they just aren't that durable. Can I recommend the Constitution build if/when you rebuild him?

Ovid chases down the fleeing Myrissa, but she - barely - dodges his attack. From here, he can see a huge line of troops moving towards Gateway. It's very clear that for all her skill, Myrissa is a minor commander in this army. None of the moving soliders even spare the temple a look. It's not thier objective, so they do not care.

They're all Cha builds. You just focused on Wisdom while your mantle choice focuses on Constitution, which is just odd all around. What I'm saying is, get more constitution. You'll live longer.

This would be because I'm an idiot and didn't read it properly :) You're right, of course. Subject to Amy's approval, I'll have a fiddle around with him.
